They are self described as "fluffy hell"; bad ass metal while keeping their girly-ness. Every one of their songs is fantastic, so even though they are a newer band there is a lot of material for you to experience.

This is one of the bands to watch, no question. They just started in 2019 and are blowing up fast. As you can see from the gang vocals, they don't take themselves too seriously-Hazuki even winks. They almost seem to be enjoying a private joke, that goes "Hi, we're a bunch of cute, fun girls and we are going to rip your face off, and you are going to like it.” Nemophila (thank you for not saying "Nemophilia") were founded in 2019. They are a supergroup composed of: Mary's Blood guitarist Saki ex-Lipstick vocalist Mayu ex-Disqualia guitarist Hazuki (also plays with Lisa-X) ex-Hölderlins bassist Haraguchi-san, and ex-Soramimi drummer Muratatam (also does other projects) Initially, they were just a side project, co-organized Mayu with some help from Saki. They started off posting metal covers of well-known rock, pop and metal songs. They tend toward hard and heavy, but also do ballads and some pop covers. the nemophila rabbit hole is deep and rewarding. and both guitarists play 7strings, hence the fantastic deep grumpily sound. and try to concentrate on the kickdrum, drummer tamu is world class.

Yep, the next band from Japan consisting of 5 young ladies who should own the stages of this world. :) And as with a certain other band, they share quite a few characteristics imho. Each of them is ultra talented yet none of them seems too aloof, they have fun and love what they do which is especially evident in their live or studio recordings, and one song is definitely not enough to understand how good they really are. :) My recommendation for the next song by these amazing ladies is 'Oiran (Live NaonのYaon2021)'. NEMOPHILA, PART 1 The Legend In The Making? Possibly. 2019: ORIGIN. NEMOPHILA is a Tokyo-based Japanese all-female metal band formed in August 2019 as one-off live show band called Mayu Session, and as the name implies, its assembled by mayu (ex-LIPSTICK vocalist as Sindy) assisted by her high school friend, Haraguchi-san (ex-HöLDERLINS bassist as Gucchi). They managed to get hold of Murata Tamu (ex-SORAMIMI drummer) who is a very famous well respected solo drummer in Japan with massive reputation as one of the best and versatile prolific new age drummer. They still need a guitarist so mayu contacted SAKI (ex-Destrose guitarist) through mutual friend and asked if she is interested for a session or knew someone who might because SAKI is the co-founder and organizer for Guitar Girls Collection (GGC) - a project that bring forward talented Japanese female rock/metal guitarists. SAKI, who is very busy being in 2 different bands (Mary's Blood and AMAHIRU) wouldn't want to miss the opportunity to play alongside Tamu (prominent drummer in SAKI's GGC project) answered YES! They get together and SAKI thought it would be more interesting to add another guitar so she and mayu contacted Hazuki, a highly-skilled technical guitarist from heavy metal band DISQUALIA. She worked as a sessionist for heavy metal singer Rami (ex-Aldious) and Li-sa-X since DISQUALIA activities were put on hold in 2017. The arrivals of two technical guitarists concluded Mayu Session's final line-ups of superb veteran quintet. Mayu Session was confirmed to perform live at Shinjuku WildSide, Tokyo for 'Summer Game' event in August. The news that metal guitar goddess SAKI will be performing alongside drums goddess Tamu, together in one band, travelled fast and eventually became the 'talks of the town'. About 2 weeks before their confirmed live show, Mayu Session was booked for their second live show on 5th September at the same venue for 'Dig up! Your Wonderland!' event. They hadn't even performed their one-off live show yet but already booked for a second show, which seemed to broke the original one-off deal. During those times, little did they knew that there will be endless show for all of them together as a band. Every member have years of experience being in a band but never played together before. Some members didn't even know each other with different personalities and musical preference. However, during their first show, they hit off immediately on stage when all their wisdom and years of experience kicks-in, triggered them to play their integral parts naturally in completing the whole performance. Every one of them are capable to hold their own and being on equal footing with each other. There were no second guessing so they just enjoyed the moment having fun performing, smiling and laughing together while their audience went crazy with lots of excitement. 2019: FORMATION. Despite their differences in many aspect, Mayu felt good seeing the band members really enjoyed each others' company both on and off the stage; and realized that this is what she had always imagined to have in a band. As all the band members felt the same, they decided to make their band permanent and announced that they will stay together as NEMOPHILA during the 5th September 'Dig up! Your Wonderland!' show. NEMOPHILA later announced that they landed their first major appearance in METAL WEEKEND 2019 event at Zepp Diver City, Tokyo. NEMOPHILA performed twice with an opening act for two heavy metal legends, LOUDNESS and HAMMERFALL on two different days. On both occasions, the organizer introduced NEMOPHILA as "Super Girls Metal Band" and no question asked on that 'title' since the band members are no strangers to Japanese rock/metal scene with several decades of experience between them; and individually regarded as a reputable seasoned musicians. Shortly after that NEMOPHILA performed twice at Shinjuku WildSide, Tokyo for the "Get Crazy" event in October and "White Night Fantasy" in December. 2020: PANDEMIC! NEMOPHILA announced their Japan tour schedule but eventually cancelled due to the pandemic. On 29th February, just before lockdown took place, they managed to perform at Shibuya REX (sold out venue), their first one-man show and it was the day they released their first EP titled OIRAN with 3 tracks: OIRAN, MONSTER, LIFE. That time, Tamu was on maternity leave. Tamu had always been called-up to fill in for drummers' absence but in her absence, NEMOPHILA called-in Miki 'mittan' Tsunoda, a drummer from the legendary all female band SHOW-YA (one of the best-selling Japanese metal bands in history) who was more than happy to make an appearance that day covering for Tamu. Since then NEMOPHILA was hyper active on social media and RU-vid. 2021: JOURNEY BEGINS. NEMOPHILA took part in NAONのYAON, a music festival celebrating female artist live (streaming) show. SAKI was on double duty since Mary's Blood also performing there. Tamu was also called-up to fill in for Gacharic Spin since their drummer Yuri was on maternity leave. In June JPU Records released a compilation of NEMOPHILA works titled OIRAN: EXTENDED EDITION and it became the most pre-ordered release in JPU Records history. In December NEMOPHILA released their debut album REVIVE and ranked #8 on Oricon new album chart, #7 on Billboard Japan (download) chart. Their relentless hard works to establish their presence in local as well as international music scene eventually paid off when they were awarded as 'Artist of The Year 2021' by Tower Records Japan. 2022: WORLD DOMINATION. In January NEMOPHILA appeared in one-man show for the first time featuring all original members at the legendary hall LINE CUBE SHIBUYA. It was another major achievement since its not an easy feat to secure that hall for a very young band like NEMOPHILA, let alone making it a sold-out venue, which they did! In April they performed at NAONのYAON. In June they did Zepp Tour at 5 venues. One band accompanied them at each venue and another achievement 'unlocked' when heavy metal legend LOUDNESS did an opening act for NEMOPHILA in Zepp Osaka Bayside. In July they will perform for the first time outside Japan at West Hollywood and in October they will be in California, US for the Aftershock Festivals 2022, which also includes Mayu's favourite Foo Fighters and Haraguchi-san's favourite Slipknot among the performers. Besides those two bands, they are also excited to be performing on the same day as KISS, one of their seniors they look up to as inspiration. NEMOPHILA did a cover of Detroit Rock City before and that cover now have close to 1 million views (939k now!), and yes all their covers are as awesome as their originals. The presence of Tamu alongside SAKI is the beacon of NEMOPHILA and seeing the band's overall vibes throughout, it could be a heavy metal legend in the making. NEMOPHILA is pushing forward since the beginning and there is no sign of slowing down in any foreseeable future. 🤘🏻

Mayu, singer, asked the band member to help her record some demo's. The band she was in broke up and she was looking for a new band. Very early they realized that they enjoyed playing together. They were doing covers, which are well worth checking out. All were from other bands, but now they are concentrating on original songs. They are on leave from their other bands. Next "Monsters" very different, and Mayu uses a different voice. The musicianship is on another level, especially Murata Tamu the drummer.

I definitely thought you would like it. They started to work in earnest from spring. It's not live, but a new song has just come out. BAND-MAID uses the word "gap", but they also use a variety of contrasts to put it between rock and metal.

You were right the first time, it isn't a normal 6-string guitar. Hazuki and Saki both play 7-string guitars, and Haraguchi-san plays a 5-string bass.

Went down the rabbit hole several years ago w/ BABYMETAL and BAND-MAID, but NEMOPHILA are kicking major ass on everything they do (including all their cover song videos)! This is the top band coming out of Japan right now! The guitarist SAKI was in a band called DESTROSE and then joined MARY's BLOOD (which was formed from original members of DESTROSE before SAKI even joined DESTROSE). Another band to check out is FATE GEAR (formed by MINA who started DESTROSE and was the only consistent member up until a couple months before the band disbanded completely). Other ex-DESTROSE member bands include LOVEBITES; MARDELAS; DISQUALIA and now LONESOME BLUE (all worth checking out)!

I discovered Japanese music in 2018 when a funk/pop band called chai supported one of my fav bands Superorganisms in Glasgow. It's a bit taking the Red pill in the Matrix. Once your in you can't escape, but it's a wonderful journey, i've not found a Japanese band yet I haven't loved from first hearing them. If you haven't already I can highly recommend Maximum the Hormone. They are an influence on most of the 'metal' bands esp the drummers. All four members sing and all have very different vocal styles so you will find that interesting. They also ignore all normal music rules and their songs are genre bending at it's best. You should listen to the song Yoshu Fukushu (予襲復讐). just watch as their songs can have upload claim issues, but there are plenty people reacting to them so ...

You did not imagine. Hazuki has seven strings. She almost always plays with an Ibanez seven string. The other guitarist, Saki, also has seven strings on her Killer guitar. And the tuning is drop D. Moreover, Haraguchi-san has five strings on her bass. Those girls are metal!

You might checkout Lisa X band, "Looking up to you" or "Just one more chance". Lisa is a youtube shredder from when she was 6 and has played with many greats. Hazuki from Nemophila her other guitarist too. Any song from Nemophila is awesome as is ALL the in studio covers they crush as well. Plus they are always smiling and having so much fun!!!:)

Great reaction! Hottest band out of Japan right now IMO. Also one of my favorite bands the past year. Just released first full album back in December. Their RU-vid channel loaded with their Amazing songs plus many great covers they do from Iron Maiden to BabyMetal. All these ladies are great musicians and Mayu the lead singer has an amazing voice. They just released a new song this week ADABANA which is their best work yet I believe. They play their first overseas show this Friday in LA at the Whisky a Go Go. Also performing at Aftershock in California in October. Hope you react to some more of their music you wont be disappointed.
