He's given us a few new ones this year, but honestly, I wish he'd expand the lore on existing, smaller characters rather than chuck everything at the wall

If you look back to when he first posted Thailand's sketch in 2008, he already mentioned that he would like to draw ASEAN 10 one day. 13 years later, 6 of 10 are finally out. So, you have to be patient. Very patient if you want to see more new characters. Take Czech R. and Slovakia as an example. They were first mentioned in 2006, again in 2008 (set as a girl and boy duo at that time already), 2011 Hima says the next girl to debut would be Czech R. and she debuts with Slovakia in July 2015. It is a 9-year long development trajectory, which is fairly standard, not exactly long per se when taken into consideration of many other character development trajectories. It usually takes an extremely long time to develop characters, so you will have to sit tight for the next round of new characters.
