I used to listen to this on Jamie's 15 minute meals waiting for a cab to go to the hospital where my partner was going through chemo. What a time. Cancer free now for nine years.
i used to deliver pizzas to this music with the Bass pumped up. Neneh Cheery, Tpau, U2, johnny kemp, and others in a 1987 chevy celebrity. smooth ride.
@Vincent Cuttolo Still has fine features and isn't wrinkly with bad teeth. Yes, she's an attractive fifty-something. Her daughter has inherited many of her features, to her good fortune - and, with the same sense of musicality and beautiful voice, looks like being at *least* as big a star as mum.
You bet! Saw her in concert this year at her Blank Project Tour and she still has it! Beautiful woman with magic aura. I love her from the very beginning!😍
I love how she raps and sings about no money man can bring her love, now today that's all the female rappers and singers talk about is how much money you can give them lol bring old school hip hop back!!!
@@MN-kp2lm Yeah, when TLC were crying about "scrubs" and Destiny's Child were hollering about "bills", then have the nerve to get mad when the male singers and rappers flipped the script.
Even now, thirtysomething years later, this song is so unique and fresh! And Neneh is the perfect combination of sassy and sexy! Shocked she didn't become a bigger star. Good old school vibes!
I feel like you have not heard a lot of today's music to hate ALL of it. This album was great, but not all of todays music is crap. I encourage you to seek out more than the latest single from a Drake clone
The song was written and composed for Cherry's boyfriend at the time, Esteban Caudillo. Cherry gave him the nickname "Che" because he frequently quoted Che Guevara and talked constantly about revolutionary topics. Thus, Cherry's original lyrics were: "Who's looking good today? Che's looking good in every way." After their breakup, she removed this reference to him.The reference to "his crocodile feet" was Cherry's teasing reference to Che's ever present Lacoste tennis shoes, which he even wore with business suits and tuxedoes. The following lyrics were from a Valentine's Day poem Che wrote for Cherry "Wind on my face, sound in my ears Water from my eyes, and you on my mind As I sink, diving down deep deeper into your soul."The two eventually split due to Cherry's belief that Che was too materialistic and loved money more than her, which was the inspiration for the lyrics: "No moneyman can win my love It's sweetness that I'm thinking of.........................."BUFFALO STANCE " is the way you stand with your arms crossed" 2:22
I remember Keith Allen joking that when Lily was starting out, she was known as ‘Keith Allen’s daughter’. Now he’s known as ‘Lily Allen’s dad!’ I think Neneh Cherry must share the same experience. I’m old though, Mabel will always be Neneh’s daughter lol
Awesome song! Not my usual music yet very talented and I remember this on the radio a lot. I was reading up about her and I didn't know she is Swedish. Very cool 😎
That's my childhood right there!!! My shock realizing that Neneh is actually Swedish and not American..the country I ended up living in and becoming a citizen of. 😁👌🏾🇸🇪
Im watching a cooking show(Jamie Oliver)and this is the intro song!! Im like waiiiiit....this song sounds familiar. So I Google buffalo stance not recalling the name of the song, I just went by the.few words i heard in the intro. .....😮😊
Her father was the great jazz musician Don Cherry, who i worked with in the 90s. Neneh was able to take care of him at the end of his life because of her success. A great lady!
@kenfrievalt7826 yeah, i never met Eagle Eye, but Don talked about him. He was proud of the kid. Eagle Eye had that one 6 once he got a look at the music 'industry' he didn't want anything to do with it. Smart guy. They will rob you blind then piss on you and tell you it's raining.
It's still July 2024 and I'm almost 70 and I just had back surgery. I needed something that would make me move through the pain, so here I am listening to Neneh Cherry again and dancing in my chair lol. I've going to have a to hear this at least once more and then on to Bruno Mars' Uptown Funk lol. Have a great day y'all!
Here in August 2024 as Gen X going out to this music as young adult... and I wish that all this feeling and content could swap over the young adults now and having not only a 90s fashion revival but also this special feeling, no worries, connected to so many people, having self confidence, men and women both emancipated, living the life, living the love
I know right it's crazy to think that it was only a year away from 1990 and this song doesn't even sound like it came out in the 80s I think it's mostly got a lot to do with the fact that music was changing I honestly feel like this song was giving us a sample of what music in the 90s would sound like
Most pop singers are greatly enhanced in the studio and live is usually lipsynced. I never liked MV because the music was lame but I don’t really understand the hate considering most pop is lame and not their true voice. Most of these folks aren’t Adele.
As a 54 year old, my love and appreciation for the music back then is just growing day by day. This track still gives me the chills and a throwback in time. ❤ Miss those years.....
Summer of 89! Turning 19! Mannn, a great year for mysic!! I lived this song! Neneh had her own syle! She was fantastic! I enjoyed my teen years in the 80s! It was nothing like it!!!❤❤❤❤
1989 was such a damn good year. Takes me back to that summer. This was on MTV, Batman, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Ghostbusters 2 was on at the movies. I wanna go back.
My Walkman got EVERYTHING!!! It's a Sony. I found it just now when we moved to a new apartment and it still works. You're right, kids don't know how good they got it. Then again, I still have a record player and my mom's old record collection, and even some records of my grandma's. That was even rougher than a Walk man! LOL! Anyway, yeah, I know what you mean! Take care, loveyou D.O. Rock on!
I don't have it on vinyl, but people have uploaded it on here. I just did a search on here and it popped right up. I understand, my grandma loved the Ink spots and I found them on here, too! RU-vid has everything doesn't it?
yeah I put ink blots because it was on a little Bible show I watched as a kid......I edited my comment to ink spots, though, lol! Funny. Love ya.......good luck.
I was 9 or 10 when this came out, became a big fan of Neneh, had the casette and played it over and over. Imagine my surprise when a man came to school to teach us about african music. He said "Oh have you kids heard of Neneh Cherry? Thats my daughter". I was so starstruck just to meet her dad and took his autograph. 😂
+הדר הלוי Even after all this time, I refuse to accept that Grump fans are called "lovelies" It's less inclusive than, you know, being called just "Grumps". At least with "Grumps" you'd feel involved. Lovelies is more of a possessive sort of name for fans.
What's a Buffalo Stance according to the urban dictionary "buffalo stance" To stand with your arms tightly crossed looking over to the side at somebody. This comes from the pose struck by Bruce Smith of the Buffalo Bills in the late 1980's Usage: "Run Dmc often posed in a "Buffalo Stance"
Old NYC - Bronx Hip Hop term ( late 70’s early 80’s) for standing with your arms crossed like you are tough. See Malcolm McClaren’s Buffalo Girls - video
We always hang in the Buffalo Stance, I give you love, not romance kinda says what it is... LOL No money man can win my love, it's sweetness that I'm thinking of. At least she isn't a Ho Ho Ho about it. LOL
Hell yeah...ill rock with the best of them but i Love most all other music too. U totally deny yourself music bliss when u close yourself off one genre. I cant get with country though. Sorry. Cant do it lol
I just realized this song is almost 30 years old. Which makes ME feel really old. :( (It still kicks fucking ass. I need to stop listening to music from when I was a kid.)
This was one of my soundtracks to December 1988, just turned 18 passed my driving test and was enjoying a legal drink in the pubs. This song takes me right back there to a month I won't forget!!
Me too! I passed in the November. Was a rock head metal lover, but this girl was too cute and the groove was enchanting. Those were the best days, I miss my youth and many friends who never got to make it into the 2020's.
Oh, my! I'm taking my second test on October 1---at 56! (my first one was about a month or so ago!). I have some lessons before then, though! Here's hoping!
I am singing it like it just came out yesterday. I love our generation. All music artists were great. We had music and not categories. I wish we could recycle this vibe.
You're so right! But this tune takes us all back to those days!! We need that more than ever now.. @3rd November 2023! UK ❤ I try and listen to as much music that takes me to a happy place. Healing/ Winning 2023 style!!😂
We definitely had music and sub culture categories back then. Metal to punk and goth were well defined by then. Its just that then even pop music industry was a ton more organic and diverse. Wheras its not now. Its like they make most of it through specific formula or algorithms. K popp bands are literally engineered to look dance and sound the same. Pretty much with American to Brit pop too these days too.
Exactly all music artist instead if it today with only half the artist being good. The ones that are really talented hardly get any airplay because they dont sound mainstream enough thanks to some ofnthese music comoanies. The good artist of tidaya re underrated and the other ones withiut aubtance get hyoed uo and out on a pedastal
Lyrics Who's that gigolo on the street With his hands in his pockets and his crocadile feet Hanging off the curb, looking all disturbed At the boys from home, they all came running They were making noise, manhandling toys That's the girls on the block with the nasty curls Wearing padded bras sucking beers through straws Dropping down their drawers, where did you get yours? Gigolo, Huh, sukka? Gigolo. Gigolo, Huh, sukka? Who's looking good today? Who's looking good in every way? No style rookie You better watch don't mess with me No moneyman can win my love It's sweetness that I'm thinking of We always hang in a Buffalo Stance We do the dive every time we dance I'll give you love baby not romance I'll make a move nothing left to chance So don't you get fresh with me Get funky. Yeah Timmy Tell it like it is. Check out this DJ So you say you wanted money but you know it's never funny When your shoes worn through and there's a rumble in your tummy But you had to have style get a gold tooth smile Put a girl on the corner so you can make a pile Committed a crime and went inside It was coming your way but you had to survive When you lost your babe, you lost the race Now you're looking at me to take her place Who's looking good today? Who's looking good in every way? No style rookie You better watch don't mess with me No moneyman can win my love It's sweetness that I'm thinking of We always hang in a Buffalo Stance We do the dive every time we dance I'll give you love baby not romance I'll make a move nothing left to chance So don't you get fresh with me Smokin', not tokin', get funky sax Looking good, hanging with the wild bunch Looking good in a Buffalo Stance Looking good when it comes to the crunch Looking good's a state of mind State of mind don't look behind you State of mind or you'll be dead State of mind may I remind you Bomb the Bass, rock this place! What is he like? What's he like anyway? Yo man what do you expect, the guy's a gigolo man You know what I mean? No moneyman can win my love It's sweetness that I'm thinking of We always hang in a Buffalo Stance We do the dive every time we dance I'll give you love baby not romance I'll make a move nothing left to chance So don't you get fresh with me No moneyman can win my love It's sweetness that I'm thinking of We always hang in a Buffalo Stance We do the dive every time we dance I'll give you love baby not romance I'll make a move nothing left to chance So don't you get fresh with me Wind on my face, sound in my ears Water from my eyes, and you on my mind As I sink, diving down deep, deeper into your soul No moneyman can win my love It's sweetness that I'm thinking of No moneyman can win my love It's sweetness that I'm thinking of No moneyman can win my love No moneyman can win my love No moneyman can win my love No moneyman
