As requested, a post honeymoon follow-up video on our YY1 pick and place machine.
One thing to consider when listening to me is that I design and manufacture amateur pick and place systems, as well as other mechatronic systems and I write my own code, including user interfaces. What this means is that I have a better understanding than most about what to reasonably expect from a machine in this price range.
03:00 Getting ready to run after being in a cupboard for 2 months.
05:00 Tip regarding adjustment of the placement locations
07:35 Running the job again with next to no preparations
13:28 debriefing the first run (actually about 120 boards later...)
16:52 Alignment of the PCB origin rail
20:50 PCB rotation, and my plan for better initial setup with custom fiducials
27:15 Tool changer alignment
30:42 Custom tape feeders and removal of the vibratory feeder
Thanks!

Thanks for your videos about the YY1. It would be interesting to "reverse engineer" the feeder modules. From the video, it seems that a piece of sheet metal (with something on it) is used as a spring to keep the tape in place. I'll patiently waiting for the follow up video 2.

I also bought a YY1 this year. Your videos have been essential in helping me understand the machine and its quirks. Once you understand its limitations and how to operate it, it's a pretty nice machine. I have it setup now for doing two different boards. Once thing that still irks me is that it will not remember the pick position for the 'flexible feeders' between power cycles. I find I have to reset these positions every time I start the machine. What are you using for labeling your feeders? It looks sharp.

I'm on the fence about changing to 0603 on some LED's on my boards. I have the YY1, and yes, the demonstration board that came with it seems to show accurate placement,, but I'm very nervous since I have been using 1206 for years. Should I relax and go for it? Also, what is your favorite solder paste? I've been using the NC191AX35 63/37 T4 from Chipquick (leaded), but I would like to go lead free if I find something with good wetting. I have an improvement of the light filter on the downlooking camera of the YY1 in one of the videos on my page. It greatly improves the ability to find fiducials.

For the nozzle station alignment, you need to line up nozzle 1 with the center screw (x and y). You can't use the camera. I know it sounds screwy, but that's the deal.

I will have to check that out! I certainly didn’t seem to be anything on the camera so that makes sense.

thank you for your efforts. although the size and price is right for me, I decided I will not but this machine. all plastics are 3D printed parts which has their unpredictable tolerances, that's maybe ok for first machines but a company who cares about it's customers should replace with proper injection molded parts. And the QFP that don't align.. thank you for bringing it up

It certainly might not be for everyone however its quirks have been surpassed by the advantageous for our use-case. I agree about injection molding the parts. It would make the machine a lot more stable, however I must say that we’ve been quite pleased with the drag feeders. Maybe every run of 60 or so boards we might have to swap friction rings on a couple of peeler gears. For us it’s not so bad compared to how we used to do it.

how is it with placing 0402 components?
@electrodacus
@electrodacus 7 месяцев назад
Was this full speed ? Seems like only around 1000 components / hour much less than claimed 3000 components per hour.

Definitely not full speed. We favor reliability over speed. I will have to check but I think this might be 80% ?
@electrodacus

@@betztechnikindustriesltd.8901 Makes sense to run a bit below 100% for reliability. But even if this is the default 70% is still much slower than spec and this will be to slow for me so will need to look at some other alternatives.
