The video wasn't a flop; it was actually really useful. Thanks for posting; sometimes we learn the most from failures! I am planning on using the same type of neon sign transformer to light up a gas spectrum tube for home school demo. The spectrum tube is a small (10 inch long) vacuum tube filed with hydrogen, helium or neon which, when the light is viewed through a cheap, plastic diffraction grating, shows the specific light wavelengths that make up the color; your video helped answer some questions I had. Thanks again.

I’ve used a neon, sign, transformer, many times.. However, one day they just stop working. I just bought a new neon sign transformer and like you I can’t get the damn thing to burn. I’m going to contact the manufacturer and see if they have an answer for me. I’ll let you know if I find anything.

I know the video is old but... with neon sign transformers it could take a minute or 3 just for the burn to start. it takes awhile sometimes.

Nice box with the microwave transformer, not good enough. Also, concrete holds moisture, lucky it didn't jump into the driveway and electrocute you. I am a military trained electrician, (21 years, retired), and spent 30 years in factories, as a electrical maintenance manager and an industrial engineer. I got into this hobby about five years ago, and had a similar setup, save I elevated my box off the bench with two glued on 2X4's. After time, you get a bit lazy...then maybe cut a few corners. We all say we won't, BUT WE ALL DO. I recently got into fractal burning guitars, and one late afternoon, a bit tired, didn't realize it was still on and touched one probe. The other one literally jumped into my other hand, as the hand was touching the edge of the guitar body. I "Rode the Lightning" for about two seconds until I fell on my right side, heavily bruising my shoulder and hitting my head on the floor. When I hit, I woke up, got up and went into the house and had my wife call 911. Heartrate was 160, and I ended up in a burn center for three days as they monitored my heart, and treated the burns on my hands, which were not that bad. Huge hematoma on my forehead, and a scalp cut on my head where I scraped on a bench nearby. NOT FUN, NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCES.... Changes I will make: 1. Add two momentary on switches to the incoming 120VAC in a plastic housing. Both have to be pressed to engage the unit. No 120VAC, no burn. Make the switches far enough apart so you need two hands to operate. Two switches, two hands. 2. My potentiometer, which I use to adjust the voltage, will be next, in a straight line away from me. Adjust before I can press both buttons, which are UL approved to be Open when released. 3. The actual unit on its platform, further away down the line. 4. The probes, with 10K insulated wire, extending to a separate wooden table. 5. Finally, 12K gloves, 1.8MM thick, in case the switches, and the potentiometer all fail and it stays lit. 6. I am standing on 3/4" insulated rubber flooring, the final table will not be on the same rubber. Sound like a lot? 6000VAC is a lot! I am lucky to be writing this, but this is what I should have done in the first place. Lichtenberg is like nothing else in beauty, and it is highly, highly dangerous. I see people using regular wire, no gloves, machine very near to the work, and I think, there is number 34, waiting to die.... Stay safe.

Thank you for the all the good safety information. I will definitely be upgrading .

Dude, Karen. Stop spamming this same mesg to every channel doing fractal burning. I don't see u spamming car videos or trampoline videos or swimming videos or toktok challenges or literally any other dangerous thing happening on the internet. More people were hit by cars today and more people drowned last year than these wood burning techniques will ever have earned. If you're too dumb to not play with electricity, which EVERYONE KNOWS CAN KILL YOU, than you're likely too dumb to ever read your comment and take heed. The overwhelming and vast majority of people doing this.....Are ALL still alive!

Sorry you had to go through that; it sounds awful. But thank you so much for sharing these wonderful safety precautions & tips. I'm certainly going to use your double 'dead man' switch idea; that's brilliant.

Aways use a foot peddle on /off switch so it is never on unless your foot activates it. Remember there have been multiple accidental very quick deaths caused by this device. bB safe out there.

The way you are dealing with the clamps and probes is like looking down the barrel of a loaded gun with a hair trigger. The table you inserted at 3:33 was very good. That said, I think these are externally measured currents, and the amount of internal penetration is related to the applied voltage. Apparently "medium" voltages (2000 volts), are the sweet spot which do the most damage, because they can deliver the currents in the table deep into tissue. Probably why that voltage works so well for woodburning? And the additional power (amps X volts) of course. The current that actually can stop the heart is very low, milliamps. My guess is the table accounts for current spreading out through the body, so it is higher. Unfortunately, with one clamp in the right hand and one in the left, you provide an electron superhighway through your arms and to the chest. Let's not ignore that fraction of the overall current which is spread through the body and making it's way around the heart. It is burning your internal organs like a piece of lichtenburg art.
@kccarrtheoregonhillbillyhi4803
You do realize that it's a lot less power so it takes more than 33 seconds... it's probably about 300% slower

Yeah, would be good to give it more of a chance -- just in time, and/or in playing with variables of the solution, etc.

There not near enough amps going though the neon transformer .
@countryroadcustomdesign
@countryroadcustomdesign 2 года назад
I didn't think it would have enough amperage. But figured I'd give it a try. It's on its way back to Amazon now lol.

@@countryroadcustomdesign I understand completely brother,,I've got little chargers and things like you have there laying around my room and it a learning process we go through ,eventually all that failure and success combined makes us smarter and we'll know what will and what wo t work by trial and error. I'm still tinkering with making a welder from transformers (MOT I've torn them apart and put together so many time om wearing out the Copper wires lol I'll be watching and I'm always willing to chat! Be careful and have fun.

For one that is NOT a neon transformer, its an electronic neon power supply that is designed to switch off when not connected to neon and or ground fault.

@@tihzho Yeah, I didn't figure it would work, but I was curious to try.
