Neotibicen Davisi(Davis’ southeastern dog day cicada) screams

that’s why I made this, I also haven’t heard it before I caught this

@@qxwt The males of this species are extremely hard to catch, and they fly too often. I have only captured two females in my life.

@@temporarily-gone damn, I spent my whole morning catching them and I just got lucky, the males fly really high like the top of pine trees and the females land so low that it is sometimes on houseplants for me

@@qxwt I wish I was lucky enough to have them land on houseplants. I live in Louisiana and the trees are HUGE, making the cicadas nearly impossible to catch. One of the females was found as a teneral on a fence, and the other was in a tree that I could actually climb.

I usually find female tibicen davisi too because of how low the ground they land

Easiest to catch males at night when nymphs are climbing out of the ground.

are you sure? sometimes, cicadas I catch are frozen cause that’s how some of them react to being held

@@qxwt yes it was paralyzed I do think because it was screaming and it didn’t move

@@jo.frmva1 that’s how they sometimes act for me, I think it is either made with that behavior(neotibicen tibicen for example) or it was dying

@@qxwt but I caught another one and it flew away but then after I put the cicada on the fence and it fell to the grass then flew away

I’m talking about the same one in the last sentence btw

I just held it at a normal area I would hold a cicada and it started screaming
