Well this definitely achieved the goal of being a decent introduction to the series for people who haven't encountered it before and will probably become my main way to explain what the hell I'm playing when people notice me playing these games and a bit of reasoning as to why I'd play them.

Yes it does feel like it's dying, which is why I wanted to try to at least make it a memorable experience while it still lasts. I hope it doesn't die yet, but I'm not in control of what the developers do, all I can do is continue to show it love ;-; Sadly I had neither the courage, motivation, skills or equipment to do it years ago.

I literally had a dream about these characters and had never been familiar with them more than the name "Neptunia" and the image of one. It seems like the dream was accurate. I was in a dormitory and I passed by a hyper chibi character carrying tons of video game accessories
I like the Neptunia series out of all animes this one stands out especially the main character Neptune. But getting into the series for the first time can be a lot to take in cause of all the series has to offer but thats why its a fun adventure. I enjoyed the video btw!
Tusanko does incredible girl character design. She also did the powerful girls of Fairy Fencer, Date a Live, and recently Engage Kiss. Some are based on previously unused concept art. Kotari Isaka in DAL is basically red haired Noire with fire powers.
Noire is much superior to Katori, also before getting in to either series I for the longest time thought Noire was a date live character cos she fits in nicely.

I think another thing to add, do not buy the DLC on a first playthrough unless you only are interested in the story. The DLC items and extra party members are EXTREMELY overpowered. The DLC party members will one shot everything for most of the game. Edit: This kinda applies to all Idea Factory games.
This was a very nice video, even though I've already played Neptunia this was nice to watch. I'm kinda sad the the 1st game and mk2 are pretty much non-canon anymore since those are the ones I played and I couldn't play the re;births. I'm still hoping and waiting for the next main story game since it's already been 5 years since VII and I'm really getting tired of spinoffs. Hopefully with ReVerse coming out soon they'll dare to do a new main game.
I have VII when it cane to the Switch, and that's been a lot of fun. Reverse wasn't the best 10th Anniversary present we got, and honestly, the only hope I had left is Neptune in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate while Neptunia is still prominent. But who knows? Maybe there will be some pleasent surprises along the way that will pick it back up. 5:14 Also, I see you are a woman of culture.
I am a hardcore gamer and I only get like 10% of the references at most. You see the Compite Heart devs are console gamers while Ive never trouched a controller in my life. Neptune talking about retro games in Megadimension VR just made me think - Oh you poor thing - you see I dont need to find an old console to play an old game I play it on the same modern beasty gaming PC I do everything else, I just use dox box or other emulators. Im currently playing Open X-com which is X-com (1994) with fans having made it comptable with modern systems as in proper screen resolution modern user interface sensabilities.
1:25 I already played them. So, too late for me. Though, storywise, RB2 and RB3 are not that much different from their original PS3 counterparts aside from a few changes here and there. As for the original game while it has it's gameplay flaws that keeps anybody away from playing it, the story is worth experiencing. I would recommend seeing a let's play of the original game, so that way anyone won't suffer from the gameplay like I have.
Being a girl you have the luxury of voicing it yourself. As a man I have no such luxury and I just wish IF understood that they have the greatest english dub in anime history and utalzied it more.
And Let's not mention the fact one of those games is Rated M. Also don't forget some costumes that changes that character's Appearance also can boots some stats same with accessories.
Yes I do know that mk2 was rated M, and surprisingly I heard it wasn't because of the existence of a certain pedophile. Apparently the Conquest ending was so dark that they had to slap an M rating on it. And rightfully so, that ending messed me an I'm sure many fans up. It was executed so well. Re;Birth 2 did put the brakes on all that and made it a little bit less dark with the acting not seeming as tragic-sounding, but in my opinion, that sorta messes up the quality of what the conquest ending was supposed to do. >.> And yes I also know that some accessories and outfits boost some stats by a bit, but I think that's only for rare mob drops or items you make yourself, I haven't seen a single one in the shop yet x3
Gotcha because I’m still in the middle of playing Re:Birth 2 and I am not looking forward to getting the Conquest ending. I’ve also heard regardless mk2 or Re:Birth 2 you’ll always want to cry when you get the Conquest ending.

As a someone who's been a fan since 2013, this is a good video for newcomers who just starting to get into the series. The points made in this video was on the mark too! Like the grinding and when things go too far. Only thing I'd say about the original three games is that the story was better than the rebirth games and MK 2 and victory has good gameplay but the original one was Eh at best but still, this is a great video and hoping sometime in 2021, I can hopefully make videos about Neptunia since I don't find a lot of videos aside from gameplay videos.
While the first OG Neptunia game was horrible in terms of gameplay, I believe its world building was a lot better than Rebirth 1 so it's worth checking out or watching the cutscenes online, if you're into that stuff.
I do agree to a point with that, but unless people have the patience, its probably better for them to watch others play through it if they're that curious.
Funny thing is that while I'm still wrapping my head around everything Neptunia, I've started writing fan fiction. Mine is named "Neptunia Miracle." Still got some ways to go before it's polished, so yeah. Oh, and it's ongoing. And yes... Neptunia is entirely the best for it's Fourth Wall breaks and it's really entertaining. :)
Most are in Gamindustri Say for Noire's game which they actually changed it there I don't really get why they decided on that though, but....... it's a Spin off and technically has a different title so........ yeah. The main Canon is always in a version of Gamindustri which is cool For those who don't know about the Noire spin off: In Hyperdevotion Noire Goddess Black Heart Instead of Gamindustri, the world is called Gamarket as in Game Market. So still a similar concept
Great video. Honestly, my only disagreement would be with avoiding the PS3 games. I dropped rebirth 1 initially, picked up the original PS3 game on a whim, fell in love with the story, and now I have beaten all the PS3 games, plus ReVerse (ReBirth 1) on the PS5.
1:25 Sorry I touched the Original Trilogy already back when Hyperdimension Neptunia first released on the PS3 ROFLOL Theres quite a few things I much prefer of the original trilogy mainly how every game is different and things I really dislike about the remakes is that all three remakes are just reusing every assets from Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory from the PS3 making the three remakes just feel like it was just copy paste everywhere. 11:50 Never felt like I was forced to grind in any neptunia game at most just change equipment or change party formation/party members and strategy.
Welcome to japan like it or not it's a fan service game no matter what, to us anime fans its normal for us, but for the other not so much. anyway to be a neptunia fan you don't really need to play the game to be a fan you'll be surprised alot of people like it just by the art itself and what parody they represent.
You make a fair point and for all I know it is meant to be a fanservice game. But I'm trying to tell people that aren't comfortable with it that they don't have to see it that way. And you are right, I was one of the fans that got drawn into it by the art when I played as a adolescent. And the parody-like elements are another fun thing to enjoy with the game too. This is why I think, like Deadpool being unique to comic book and super hero fans, Neptunia is the same except for games and anime. c:

Fair enough, and even some of the contents of Re;Birth 1 don't make sense to the cannon world either... XD They tell a different story entirely and once the sequel starts, there are so many elements that contradict Re;Birth 1 >.>
@@thenepqueen that’s because the OG Neptunia/ Rebirth1, actually take place in a different dimension called the “Superdimension”, even the original Japanese title for the first Neptunia game was called “Super Dimensional Game Neptune”, Neptunia Mk2/Rebirth2 and beyond (mainline-wise) take place in the “Hyperdimension”, the main dimension for the entire franchise, this is due to the fact that every True ending in neptunia is canon, and assume you don’t know the true ending of the original Neptunia (and excluding Rebirth1 true end, also no spoiler), it make no sense for the story for the story to continue because (spoiler) happened

@@maxfree321 doesn't change that the series is largely marketed to a male audience, and most fans are male, or at least the vocal ones. The main illustrator is also a woman, but I'm not talking about the crew, I'm talking about the fan base.

"Canon" is a loose concept in Neptunia as it is, since Mk2 and Re;Birth 2 both start a new canon that doesn't follow up on HDN1 or Re;Birth1, and pretty much all of the spinoffs are also in their own continuities. I definitely can't suggest skipping games in this series because of "canon." I also don't think Re;Birth1 necessarily retcons HDN1 anyway since both of them are standalone and isolated from the rest of the franchise in continuity. I did play the original on PS3 rather recently in fact as my start in the series and while I can understand discouraging it from a gameplay standpoint (though I'd go as far as to say it's really not that bad, especially if you're not coming in yet with expectations from later entries), the world building and character writing is _much_ better. While I enjoyed Re;Birth1 more from a gameplay perspective, plotwise it feels more like the equivalent to a barebones movie adaptation than an actual remake. So much of what was cut out from the original really lost a lot of the charm of that world. Re;Birth2 and 3 were fairly accurate remakes plot-wise, so I could definitely suggest skipping mk2 and victory, but I really would hate to tell people not to even give HDN1 a try if they have the option to. (It runs perfectly well in RPCS3!) Plus it lets you meet Gust and Nisa, who are the only characters to never come back since the first two games. I personally love Gust, she's such a fun character.
Okay. Honestly, you're right. While I don't think new fans should play these games before the Re;Birth Trilogy, telling them to not touch them was kind of a bad move on my part and I will admit that. Since this is a video for beginners, I was thinking starting there wouldn't be the best idea, but saying to not play them at all was a stupid idea. A very all or nothing attitude and I regret saying that now. Honestly they should try it maybe watch a playthrough of them, because although they aren't the best to play, they're still a relic of Neptunia History, and I will admit, I like the script in the older games more than the newer ones. I think the emotion was done way better and seeing Neptune grow from being a sassy little smartass to this silly protagonist we all know and love today, is kinda fun. So I deeply apologize for making the games come across that way. Honestly, people should try them, but after they play Re;birth 1 first. That's just my opinion. The gameplay of those games is less than stellar, but the difference in story telling is honestly really neat to witness. And I will say that as a veteran who started with this franchise with that game first. Clumsy script writing on my part... I take back what I said about not touching them. But I still stand behind not looking into them until you know Re'Birth1's story first.
@@thenepqueen That's very fair, and I do think telling people to start with the ps3 original is a hard sell, so I can definitely understand not suggesting people start with it. I am glad I did personally, because I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much had I been spoiled by the faster paced gameplay in later games, but I'd rather people get into the series at all than drop it because they didn't like HDN1.

I see. Well I don't know anymore. In my opinion only the first OG game was needing a remake due to the flaws it had. The other 2 weren't needed so I get why people prefer the OG games. And I feel the same about Re;Verse. That game never should've happened. AT ALL.
I will say it always bothered me how waifu based series always make dudes either useless idiots, pathetic perverts, villains, or just non-existent. Sure, keep the females front and center and have them be the majority, but this type of stereotypical depiction in these types of series just gets old fast. great video, I heard a lot about the series(especialy the anime) but never got around to get into it. so recently I started to learn about the series and found out that there's a remake to the remake of the 1st game on the PS5(Neptunia re★Verse ) so since I don't have a PS5 I wondered if I should go for the Re;Birth1(since Re;Birth1 Plus is JP only) or wait and play the Neptunia re★Verse once I get a hold of a PS5. what do you think? is the difference between the versions really big or does it all come down to "better visuals" which doesn't bother me that much since I enjoy good games even if they don't look that fancy.
As a new player, its honestly up to you. Re;Verse is honestly a carbon copy of Re;Birth one. Like its legit a copy. The script writing is exactly the same as Re;Birth 1. Only differences being there's a mini game and the graphics look "enhanced" But if you have not played Re;Birth 1 or any Neptunia game, and you actually own a PS5 I say go for it if you want to. The only people who shouldn't waste their breath on Re;Verse are those that already played through Re;Birth1.
Hey, i have a question!! If i start with the three neptunia games on switch (excluding the senran kagura collab) will i not understand the lore or will i be ok? I plan to try to get all three for my birthday this year but itll be around like $120 lol
Hello! I'm afraid most of the switch Neptunia games are spinoffs. Only one of them is a mainline but its the final one in the mainline saga. Which games in particular were you going for? The Neptunia Re;Birth Trilogy is a better intro to the worldbuilding. Those you can all obtain on steam.
@@thenepqueen I unfortunately cannot get any of the other games as I don't have a computer or anything.. I plan to get Super Neptunia RPG, Megadimension Neptunia VII, and Neptunia Sisters VS Sisters! I asked someone in a discord and they told me that out of the three Megadimension is the best to start with, is that correct?
Megadimension is actually the 4th mainline in the series. It is a good option to play but it does make a few hints to the other games. If you'd like more info on the lore you can always watch my content for that, I'll go over it as best as I'm able. Super Neptunia RPG is a different story entirely so its a safe option since the story has nothing to do with the lore at all. The gameplay is different too. And as for SVS it can be debated on whether or not that game is part of the mainline saga, but its confirmed to be yet another spinoff. That one's focused on the CPU Candidates, so watching my playthrough of Re;Birth2 will give you more insight on their characters. Either way, its all up to you. I hope you have fun regardless! c:
