I like these more "brutal" gods like Seth and Nergal, that don't really conform to the norms of good and evil, but have their place in the cosmos anyway.

@elram2649 2 года назад
Or Corruption, by any other name. Lots of people are into that. Switching stances as they see fit. That has always been so, it's a very popular stance for sure. It is said in ancient mythologies that mankind was modeled after the gods who were themselves; corrupt. And hence, our corrupt nature and gravitation towards that specific trait; with "it", being the only overarching constant characteristic shared between the gods: Corruption.

From my own borderline obsession with all things Mesopotamian in general and Babylonia specifically none of the Gods/Goddesses can be considered good or bad. Just some are not as bad as the others
@elram2649
@elram2649 2 года назад
@@talon7132 Yes, it's widely understood as that being the case. However, and respectfully... From my own inference of that, I gather; that is (in practice) petulant, unreliable, and most crucially: auto-exculpatory behavior. For if those gods were neither good nor bad, it goes against their own creation (humans) as these were created to be their reflection. These gods were the ones who brought forth Chaos across the universe and who took great pride and lust at the sight of blood. They're the ones who for example: (given the mythology) instituted and perpetuated the unending cycle of kill or be killed. This specifically (I posit): if "kill or be killed" is neither good nor bad, it's an automatically self-cancelling equation - a non standard: the absence of standards; an utter contradiction according to what we see in the universe itself - as these gods existed within the universe, not outside of it, and therefore, they were bound to it. For that, standards are needed; the stuff that would support it's structure, ie, what works and what doesn't, ie, what's *good* and what's *bad* becomes a requirement for it all to work...including the gods themselves. Furthermore, we do see these gods having various responsibilities and standards which they often choose not to follow themselves...Chaos comes to mind. And so, to me, this is why I called the concept of the gods neither being good nor bad as being reduced to it's proper well-earned place; a petulant, unreliable, and auto-exculpatory behavioral concept; where the only standard, is having none; where anything goes according to each of their emotional instabilities...as children do. And if human children (being a mirrored reflection of their creator gods) are able to realize what is good and what is bad: then it could easily be concluded that the gods themselves were also aware of when they were being good or being bad. And, we do see the gods taking actions against each other to *execute justice* on one another...which means they were in fact aware of good and bad. ...There's more that I wanted to say about the subject but it just went "poof" from my brain. Oops! 😆🍻 It's almost bedtime, I can feel the tiredness on my chest. C'ya! 🛌

In the Norse pantheon, Tyr is a god of war and justice. Therefore Tyr would be more representative of order than Thor. But yeah, Loki, definitely an entity of chaos. Though it would be incredibly oversimplified, you could say the Aesir are representative of order(good) and the Jotnar are representative of chaos(evil).

The Mesopotamian pantheon crosses over to the Greek pantheon crosses over to the Roman pantheon and properly tagged in the Bible. The Tower of Babel brings clarity to one god or goddess has several names when languages were confused. Dr. Michael Heiser explains their what their existence (yes existence not mythology) was to God. Jesus was sent (to stop) saying 'the gates of hell will not prevail against My church' ~Matthew 16:18
