Funny how much frustration the 72 pin connector can cause after nearly 40 years. I repaired the 72 pin connector (I suspect it's aftermarket) in my NES by boiling and then a soak in some EvapoRust, rinsing, blow dying and then hitting it with some DeOxit Fader Lube (awesome for sliding contact points). It works flawlessly now without even having to push games down, plus I assembled a NESessity 1.4 with the High-Def NES for HDMI output. It's a blast playing vintage stuff on my modern TV with my kids. What's weird is I still get a gray screen when using the Game Genie with Legend of Zelda when I try to boot into the game after the GG screen. I've been chasing the issue and am down to inspecting each individual solder joint in the LoZ cartridge (doing that first since it's the only game with the issue) and then I'll be doing the same with the GG. I'm hoping I find the issue since I still have a couple things to look at. Seeing your scope in another of your videos has me wanting one of those since with mine it's still challenging to get a good visual on solder joints.
The NES is sooooo frustrating to work with!! With this console I wound up replacing the 72pin connector with a refurbished one from eBay and now it works almost every time. I will have to look into the HDMI mod. It would be nice playing it on a big tv. I would look at that Zelda cartridge. Does Zelda load fine without the game genie? @@wolfmanrepairs I definitely suspect the issue resides in the Zelda cartridge since every other game I've used the GG on has worked just fine, and weirdly enough the Zelda cartridge works perfectly when not connected to the GG. Definitely odd circumstances with this symptom.
That’s definitely a strange one there!! It’s interesting that the Zelda game works without the game genie. When you get a chance to check out that Zelda cartridge let me know what you find🐺😁

It doesn't matter what colour the screen freezes at all this is irrelevant . It can freeze any colour depending what game you put in .I've had this exact problem with many games . All I did was use a gambit 3.8mm screwdriver to open the game . Then I used a cloth and rubbed mix of baking powder and vinegar and cleaned the pins . It totally removed the oxide and makes them shine .My games now work every time for me .
I’m going to have to try baking soda and vinegar!! Making a paste and using a toothbrush should work or do you not have to be as aggressive with it? 🐺🐺😁😁
This one just needed a little clean. If yours is still doing the blinking light you might have to replace the 72pin connector. I’ve purchased a few 72pin connectors from this eBay seller and they work great!!
