I remember this game. I used to watch Double Dare all the time. My family even went to see the Double Dare live tour.

02:15 That is bullshit. Elvis just sang it. Tommy Durden and Mae Boren Axton wrote it.

You know “Double Dare.” That game show on Nickelodeon in the late 80’s-early 90's (before Nicktoons existed, can you believe it?). Yup. A true classic! Yeah. It featured four kids in two teams kids doing physical challenges along with questions to get money. You have 2 rounds to get that money. Whoever had gotten the most money at the end of the Control challenges (challenges at the beginning of a round for who gets the questions,) Physical challenges (if both teams do not know the question 3 times, you can get this) and questions, you will do the obstacle course, which is 8 little, well, challenges, in 1 minute. The course is really just pressing left and right over and over again with pressing A to get flags, and that's about it. This show was one of the hits for Nick, which then began producing more of them, like Super Sloppy Double Dare, Family Double Dare, and Double Dare 2000. Double Dare is the NES port of the PC game of the same name, itself based on the Nickelodeon game show originally hosted by Marc Summers. This was the only game that they made though, and unlike most TV or movie shows turned into games, this one was actually quite good. The setup is near-identical to GameTek & Rare's other game show-based titles. You select number of players, computer difficulty level (in one-player games, you have to play against the computer), team names, and character avatars. Also, unlike Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune, they actually show the host, or someone like him, in-game. The Graphics are standard from what you would expect on the NES, so they are nothing special. The backdrop in the game looks nothing like the real backdrop in the show, which is a minus, because the backdrop of the show was filled with a bunch of nice, lights colors, while the game's is just black. All the people who can choose from have 80's haircuts, so they look really stupid, but it was the 80's and 90's, and that wasn't the best time that the world had. It seems that they really only had 4 colors besides black and white ''if you call those colors, there a tint and a shade.'' Besides that, the sprites look just fine. Overall average sound includes VERY good music and sound effects. I like that dorky typewriter sound that GameTek used when the question appeared on the screen, and David Wise's 8-bit music/rendition of the Double Dare TV theme music. Like the TV show, the game is basically a trivia game with the added enhancement of being able to answer the question, or take a dare. Dares consist of the Toss-up Challenge, the Physical Challenge, and in the last round, the Obstacle Course. Questions are varied, and in large enough number to avoid excessive repetition even over several games worth of play. In order to move through an obstacle, the player needs to repeatedly alternate between pressing either the left and right or up and down arrows on the controller's D-pad. In order to grab the flag, the player needs to position the on-screen contestant in just the right spot and then press the A button to jump and retrieve. The obstacles are all based on real obstacles from the show (with one exception, a triangular jungle gym) and are randomized before a game. Virtual prizes for beating the obstacle course include a BMX bicycle, television set, an NES console, stereo, pool table, watch, and camping gear, ending with an exotic vacation received for completing the last obstacle. Rare did a nice job with importing game show games to the NES despite being developed by Gametek.

@TronPachioftheDynamo It's up there because it was made by Rare ltd. As with Wheel of Fortune. Cartridges like those that are still in good condition can fetch a high price, regardless if it was "Trash" or not. And since you wanna throw numbers like that, I've had roughly 100 titles, all quality titles, this included.

Hoo boy, this game was a bitch!! The controls were INSANELY finicky. I recall throwing the controller in anger many times as a kid, after trying and failing to complete that damn course!! 😬 Kids today have no idea how easy their games are, by comparison!

I loves the show and was so excited to play the game. Oh the controls. It's so hard to tell without commentary or trying for yourself but the controls are horrendously bad. This game is unplayable for me.

TronPachioftheDynamo You had to grow up with the NES to understand. In the late 80’s-early 90’s, every kid had this game, had a friend who had the game, or rented it at some point. Any kid who played the NES back in the day played this game. In that sense, it is a classic whether or not the quality of the game is actually any good (it’s not). I get that you think you’re super cool and internet edgy, but try coming back to reality once in a while.
