Whoever is playig this and managed to beat it without dying a single time is a friggin master at this game.

The Vader scorpion thing wasn't too bizarre. What I thought was more weird was the Egyptian tomb, ice planet, US Senate building underwater (In Star Wars! wtf), and Chewie kissing Luke

There is no version of Star Wars in this universe or timeline or any other, I'm sure of it, where Darth Vader turns into... (cleans glasses) a fucking scorpion!

That version of Star Wars from Namco is my favorite. I'd beaten that game before. That game has continue but the continue consumes 30 power forces and as long as you keep getting power forces and have at least 30 of them during Game Over the continue is infinite. The only problem is when you reach the last stage (33:09) you'll no longer able to acquire any power forces and once you have less than 30 you will not be able to continue. To continue, on Game Over screen hold the "UP" button and while holding "UP" press "A" eight times and Game Over changes to Continue and press start.

It's a good thing George Lucas didn't know this game existed... who knows what the special edition of Episode IV would have been like.

This feels more like Mega Man mixed with Mario than star wars.

This isn't A New Hope, this is the story of bob groundwalker (Leia and Luke's long lost half-brother) that goes on a quest like Luke did except he went to one of the locations from the movie and the rest was just a bunch of random bullshit that no one knows about. And every area starts and ends with the same sequence. The saddest part of the story is that bob only lived on in one fan fiction then was forgotten forever.

This game is like they made a game based on a Star Wars fanfiction.

At the end of every platform level I kept hearing in my mind: Sorry Luke but the princess is on another planet.

One of the hardest game I've ever played when I was a child. One hit death and also the weirdest way to used cheat code for choosing level.

Now this is Luke's dream of adventure, he~ he practically did everything and saved everyone! Interesting to know the fake Vader(s) do announced what they are (like Scorpion Vader, Wampa Vader, others couldnt identify...); Chewie getting frozen and talks about being cold is kinda hilarious :D

Strange. I've seen this movie countless times and I don't remember Luke fighting Vader as a scorpion, diving underwater to fight sharks or investigating Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics.

Odd how they gave Chewie a medal but not Han when in the film, the opposite occurred. Maybe the game designer felt bad for him.

Bizarre inaccuracies aside, this game actually looks a lot of fun, especially the 3D parts.

In the late 1980s, Tengen almost localized the game for the U.S. market and plans to bring it into an unlicensed cartridge for the NES, but it was unfortunately scrapped in favor of releasing both "Road Runner" (which was originally going to be a licensed Nintendo cartridge game that was supposed to be published by Mindsacape) and "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" (was originally a licensed Nintendo cartridge game that was published by Mindscape). Had Tengen released "Star Wars" instead of "Road Runner" or "Indiana Jones", that would've been awesome, and it could've been the third Namco Famicom game to be localized after "Pac-Man" and "Rolling Thunder". Unfortunately, "Road Runner" developer Beam Software created a better "Star Wars" game for the Western market for the NES, and JVC is publishing it worldwide.

I could live an entire lifetime without hearing the 8bit version of the rebel battle theme ever again and be much happier than I am rn

This game reminds me of Buzz Lightyear Attack on Zurg from the beginning of Toy Story 2. Come to think of it, someone should make this into a Buzz Lightyear game!

I loved the death star destruction. Very original, instead of usual lots of explosions and a massive one in the end it was just a puff ;p

My Mom worked in Asia so I had a Japanese NES in the UK when I was, like, 7 years old. I couldnt read Japanese and I didnt know you had to hit the cell doors on the Deathstar with the lightsaber to open them. So I just used to wander around that level in loops for hours until I got bored and turned it off. Never got further than that level.

Wow what a beautiful game

This is eerily similar to an Alex Kidd in Miracle World clone with a Star Wars skin. The 1-hit deaths, the lightsaber replacing the punch, the Landspeeder basically acting the same as the motorcycle sections, and the force powers being a copy of Alex Kidd's inventory items.

What does Pharaoh Tutankhamun has to do in a Star Wars game? (And what's that in the water stage? Atlantis?) Dude, those NAMCO developers were simply off topic in this one. Not to mention those random Vader's transformations. I guess they were trying to make a larger game, but this was ridiculous.

Even with the strange story elements & one hit deaths, I still kinda find this one more fun than the JVC version.

i used a coin on my famicom's extra controller port when this came out to enter stage select mode. never thought the ice planet was so difficult

If I remember correctly there is a shortcut for Vader's lair on the 6th planet.Avoiding all the troopers and enemies en route.Stand still just before the last gigantic tree and ask Han Solo for help.Then stairs come from the tree.Climb to the shortcut.

Ah yes, remember the scene in Star Wars when they were on Hoth and C-3PO had to summon a whale so they could get across a lake. That was my favorite part.

I owned this game as a kid. There is a cheat to open the debug mode. But you can only do it on a the nes/famicom hardware. You have to insert a coin in between the pins of the light gun socket. It depends on the coin (has to be a conductor) and it somehow short circuits the hardware and will open the debug screen where you can choose a stage. Also be warned with this hack as it can render your nes/famicom unusable. Original ones are more sturdy. I dont advice doing this on clones.

My favorite power of the Dark Side of the Force is Shapeshifting.

Fun fact. A while ago I revisited this game to beat it, after I gave up on it a year before. After doing so I told one of my mother's friends about it, because he is a huge star wars nerd. He replied to me as if I just told him someone died.
