I loved this game growing up. I only beat it one time but always liked the mall delivery stage. Beach stage, and the final stage were always a pain in the ass lol
That last stage warehouse level was some BULLSHIT! Even watching it years later it’s still trauma inducing. This game heavily contributed to my fear of exploring vast abandoned multi-level factory buildings occupied by suburban skate gangs and teenaged kidnappers. ANY police presence whatsoever in this town could’ve corrected every issue
I could get to the last level but never find Ice pick. So cool to see the end. The half with the spine in the middle is still so fun to play today. I lived in East northport Long Island back in 1990 and Elwood was another town near by. I always thought the game was based near me. Any who, always loved the intro!!
Same here, I lived in Brentwood Long Island in 1990. Enjoyed the intro, got to the last level, never bothered to find Icepick, and I enjoyed the half pipe too. To be fair to both of us, that last level is a mess. Looks like it was intentionally cryptic to increase playtime.
This brought back weird memories. Every sound effect, the music, and the levels. I don't know how old I was at the time but I had no idea the select button would let you go on the big ramp. I got there accidently once. Every time after I threw the controller until it worked again.
this channel helps me alot because it shows me the everything in games instead of reviews telling me if its a good game I can judge for my self good job but question is how many people have done longplays on this channel
The guy skating in the mall on the cover of the game is Jeff Whitehead of the solo black metal band Leviathan. Seems I was a fan of Leviathan when I was 10.
How did I not know this existed as a kid?! I hated the original only cause after a while I could get through it in 5 minutes...this is so much more substantial
Unlike the NES port of the original Skate or Die!, which was developed by Konami and published by their Ultra Games subsidiary, this sequel, Skate or Die 2: The Search for Double Trouble was developed internally and published by Electronic Arts themselves, serving as their second and last self-published NES game following The Immortal. Skate or Die 2 is well known for successfully using digitized vocals and electric guitar in the opening theme (composed, along with the rest of the game's music, by Rob Hubbard), rarely heard on the NES.
As a kid ur like wow this place is gargantuan. The simple switch of color made each floor seem a whole new place but now its a nonstop labyrinth of the exact same 2 or 3 rooms mindlessly for a long ass duration of time.
I played the ramp part of this game more than any other thing on my NES. (Probably 2nd was Kirby and California Games). Figured out the best lines to max out my score where you can rocket in each corner up off the screen and get bonus points, but once you use them up a bird will come flying down and chase you. I played the story mode maybe once or twice. Also played the first one and Ski or Die like crazy. I craved a game like this for YEARS on Genesis or SNES and never found anything. It wasn’t until a demo disc came out that had Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater came out for PS1 that I put in more time on a game. Wore that demo disc out waiting for the full game. So many hours playing trying to figure out the best runs in games like these.
I remember when the PS2 came out and was blown away at the graphics, looking back they where terrible but compared to this they where great, I still remember The original Tecken
That scene in the mall (nutritious foods - out of business) and the pizza dealer besides being not only open, but your mission objective ^^ lmao That was when EA was good
Only rented the Skate or Die games. The first one I was disappointed. Especially considering how popular it was. It just wasn't the fun I hoped for. The second game really surprised me. Completely different type of game and particularly original. Fast pace action and a wild and crazy game.
Rob Hubbard only did 2 games for the NES, but you can only imagine what the NES would have been like if his library of NES games was as big as his C64 work.
also, protagonist kills mayor's wife's dog and finds that when she gets him to ban skateboards, the appropriate response is to find and kill the mayor's wife. this is some GTA shit up in here :O *SKATE STRAIGHT*
in conclusion: the last half of the game appears to be so unbelievably monotonous, poorly drawn/planned, pointlessly hard in the vein of all those "impossible games", and enough to ensure that, upon completion, one is _that_ much closer to both their own madness ...and death
ps: back in the day i played that half pipe for an embarrassing amount of hours. they should've simply released that as the whole game and left the garbage-y main game's mechanics and levels in the sewer with the rats and tacos pps: 'blegh' was directed at game. no tacos were harmed in the making of this comment
GO MAKE OUT AND FRENCH KISS YOUR MOM YOU STUPID PERVERT SHES PROBABLY A BIG FATTY TOO. BUT THATS OKAY BECAUSE I HEARD THAT YOU PREFER FATTY-MOMMAS!!! LMAO. HAVE A BAD DAY, JERKO!
I remember playing this on a rental from Blockbuster and using strategy guides(probably from Nintendo Power?) to finish. The whole intro, plotline and soundtrack was extremely memorable to say the least. The game design and control scheme was inscrutable C64 style bullshit - makes great back-of-the-box screenshots, very hard to come to grips with, over quickly once you know what to do. You can really feel them stretching out the playthrough time with that last maze. Icepick seems to have a gang of like 300 dudes and he's the only one that doesn't skate.
It was a lot longer trying to collect the items to get all the boards and tricks padded it out, I thought the half pipe was part of the game as well but maybe it was just a bonus game
@@r.j.etrogames Youre close. That 1-bit PCM sound takes up so much memory that it made the game a 3 megabit cartridge. Its not just the song title, the drums used throughout the levels, and the digitized speech took up that much room (Konami did this too). EA paid Rob Hubbard a LOT of money to stop being a freelance music composer and to work full time at EA, we will never know how much he was paid, but I bet he was paid more than the rest of the programming staff at the time.
I got this down the other day and kinda noticed how the sticker shows a guy jumping off his board in front of this picture of a gigantic mall. And I got to wondering where that mall is and if it's still there or if it's turned into one of those like Dan Bell videos.
I remember getting this game for Christmas of 88 or 89 and playing it like crazy! Edit: It must have been Christmas of '90 because I remember getting it on Christmas Day and played it for hours.
Game was fun but hard af when i was little, musta been 4 playing this. I started gaming early in my 3s , wachin my mom play tetris mario and pacman like 😲
2:39 Ariel... Ariel is that you?? I dont know that Ariel is now friends with skater boys And is not a princess anymore she is a skater girl instead lol 30:55 mmm prince Eric would be kinda jealous xD There are a ramp game where CJ aka Ariel had hearts over "the main hero", poor prince Eric xD
