I gotta go back to my old one (the Honeywell unit the apartments installed) anyways. It was working last night and now it says “no power” and my system isn’t working. All of the videos, guides, and compatibility pictures I’ve looked at says I did it right. But why would it stop working if I did it right? When the old thermostat has worked fine since we moved her. I’m so disappointed. I really wanted Nest again.
@@wwjoshdewit seems that you had some wires that weren’t fully in there. Double check if that’s the issue that you are having. I installed mine and noticed some wires not holding properly and in the app they tell you to push down on them to see if they are holding before putting the device on
@@atineog it was just hella long. When I pulled the cover off the Honeywell, that white cable was long there too. It’s fully seated. I connected the old one and called maintenance, right now they are replacing something inside the actual unit that went out.
@@FrostyTheBeerMan good morning to you too. At the end of the day, using that port means you’re installing it for the first time and need power to set it up. It’s not a daily or monthly thing.
Hi Josh, the strangest thing - I have the same Honeywell thermostat ! It is still working great... but this new NEST looks nice ! The new faces is a really nice addition !
I am wanting to get a smart thermostat as well. Im just scared to install it myself 😂 . Most likely I will have an HVAC install it. I want to get this Google model you installed. I'm only hesitant since I've been told by multiple HVAC companies that Google isn't good and I've heard horror stories from them. They say Ecobee is a much better brand and have encouraged me to look into them instead.
@@thutruong9859 You will actually lose features going from Gen 3 to Gen 4 as you don't have access to a lot of features on the thermostat as it's very app dependent now with the fourth gen. The third gen also feels sturdier as the fourth gen looks like a little mushroom on the wall.
Hopefully this generation works with a heat pump properly. Hopefully the old temperature sensors are compatible with the gen4 thermostat? Wonder if it's still links up with the Nest smoke detector? All I know is every HVAC technician that comes to service on my heat pump absolutely hates the Nest thermostat.
Interesting, I have a heat pump and I'm considering buying the Nest 4. Does the 3rd gen have a problem turning on Aux when it gets cold or something like that?
@@solomonhilliard5357 If you have it hooked up and set up properly it will turn on the auxiliary heat as it does not do it out of the box. I can't speak for the Gen 4 just yet, but I'll let you know after this weekend. My heat pump uses every connection that's on a Nest thermostat as it operates a dehumidifier and a multi-stage compressor with auxiliary and emergency heat.
@@twosawyers I have a Honeywell thermostat they always hook up to troubleshoot my system. I never had an HVAC technician do any type of maintenance with that Nest Thermostat hooked up to it as it's always been disconnected.
Now if you can do a video on how to set up and use the Nest Temperature Sensor. For some reason I cannot use the NEST app to set up my Nest learning Thermostat Gen. 4 But I can use the thermostat in the Google Home app. But I can't adjust the temperature for the Nest Temperature Sensor with Google Home. This has me confused. The Nest learning Thermostat Gen. 4 was super easy. I like the idea that I can adjust my thermostat from my phone, especially while in bed. Now if I just get a better understanding of the Nest Temperature Sensor.
Did you install the temperature sensor? I can't figure it out. It fails when I try to add through home, and the old nest app doesn't even recognize the nest is in my system. Ugh
They are phasing out the Nest app. Even my nest cams have fully migrated to the Home app. Like it or love it, they will kill off the nest app fully. So you'll have to use Home to use your old nest stuff, or not use an app at all.
Just installed mine (easy transition from the previous gen) but man I already miss the brighter blue display from the last gen… Also does this mean the Nest app does not longer work?
@@luisrosales9518 you use the google home app for newer stuff. I’m in the preview, and my nest stuff has almost all migrated to the home app. So no more going back and forth for me anymore.
