Nesting Ducks, Spring of 2023 

A trail camera is mounted on a post to capture the wetlands area below a duck nest box, in early March of 2023. The nest box is on a pond in a rural wetlands of Richland County, South Carolina. Here wood ducks (Aix sponsa) and hooded mergansers (Lophodytes cucullatus) compete for nesting cavities, and raccoons (Procyon lotor) are a common danger for unprotected boxes.
