This fight was the absolute pinnacle of age versus experience. Netero is so far out of his prime even now, with THIS version of himself, he says hes currently not one of the top 5 strongest Nen users in the Hunter Organization. Meruem is only getting stronger with every passing moment and every human with nen he devours. Going into this fight Netero had to know at best it was a race against time to overwhelm Meruem before he could catch up to Netero's nen output, or at worst a bait tactic to get Meruem weak enough to detonate the Poor Man's Rose. Even with Meruem's insane nen output this fight would be a no win situation because of how insanely experienced and powerful Netero is, however, Netero underestimated just how intelligent Meruem would be and that was the deciding factor.

Netero knew he had no chance of winning the battle, so before going to fight, he had a nuclear bomb implanted inside him to explode when his heart stopped beating (hence why he killed himself). The bomb obliterated Meruem, and as Meruem was on the brink of death his minions or whatever found him and gave him some of their strength so he could be revived, which worked. He then left and played a board game with komugi until they both died. 10/10 antagonist Would kill neferpitou again 9/10 - Gon Freecs
