Netflix In SPACE!! - OvrDrop + Elite Dangerous in HTC Vive 

Waited for the explanation on how to do this Got seven minutes of "it's cool that I did this" I want those 7 minutes of my life back :/

Go next level Man. Add Voice Attack, a bit of voice training, and one of the latest HCS Voicepacks. The first time you approach a station and simply have to say "Request Docking" and it does, or say "Go To Super Cruise" and the countdown starts.... BIG SMILE.

I'm sure you've heard this before but hey maybe one of you viewers can benefit from this. If you haven't try Voice Attack with Elite Dangerous you are missing out. It gives an "AI" to your ship that responds to your commands like lowering the landing gear or deploying weapons. It doesn't need a trigger command that you constantly repeat to get to the actual command just say it and it will do it for you is that simple. It will even include a response to let you know the command went through and if you say stuff like thank you it will reply to you :,). It is a dream come true check out some videos before you decide on going for it but I highly recommend it and it won't break your bank so what's not to love.

If you're new to Elite I run a tutorial based channel that will likely help out a good deal - enjoy. And yes, in VR Elite is rather amazing.

Vive - OVR Drop - Voice Attack - HCS Voice Packs (x5) - NetFlix - Elite Dangerous - HOTAS. That was my Sunday for about 6 hours. Really is a fantastic combination and about the closest thing we have thus far to a chill immersive VR world to play in.

OVR Drop also has a way for you to set a button that will disable/enable the window. I have it set to a button on My HOTAS so if I need to turn the window off, (I keep mine below my right UI so it is out of the way) I can. This doesn't impact the window, so your movie or whatever will keep playing and producing sound it just turns off the window. Since you play with yours front and center, I'd recommend making sure you program that so you can just switch it on and off as you want to. You could also program it into VoiceAttack I'm sure, I just haven't done it yet.

In any case: your vids are getting extremely polished and I'm absolutely impressed by your improvements since I last watched a vid of yours (sold my Old vive recently due to not having any space, hence my interest in VR content on youtube dwindled a bit). You also already got 20k subs! Congratz buddy, I told you you'll be getting big :D

If I had a PC and VR this would be the number 1 thing I get when running long-range exploration trips. Also that first jump perfectly lines up with the movie.

With Oculus you don't need OvrDrop, just use the new dash, bring up your desktop and drag and hold your Netflix window to where ever you want it to be. It's pretty nice and i like your videos man

I regularly do long E:D sessions in the original Vive. I'm sure the Pro is better but the original is not bad.

I managed to map all functions I need to an xbox controller, so no need for using keyboard. the readability is an issue tho. looking forward to getting a higher res headset

I can highly recommend 3dconnexion as controller for space/flightsims

563 hours in elite so far, all in vr. Thrustmaster t16000 hotas and voice attack. My favorite vr game.

Holy crap. OvrDrop in Elite makes so much sense. They should make it part of the game.

You can't watch Netflix though because in order for E:D VR to accept HOTAS control inputs, E:D needs to be the foreground window. At least in the case of the Thrustmaster T.16000M. It is possible to watch Netflix... but it's a pain in the butt to set up because you need to take off the HMD each time you finish selecting a movie or move the OPVR window. Ie, every time the window runing E:D loses focus, the HOTAS control inputs stop working, you have to take off the Vive, click on the window running E:D in order to bring it back into the foreground, and then put the HMD and headphones back on again. It also makes it not possible to watch Netflix in "fullscreen". Meaning you see the outlines of the browser incl. the toolbar and bookmarks.

One of my worst experiences on on the Vive when I was having an extended session. It was light when I put it on and when I took it off it was pitch black in my room. Talk about being disorientated, I thought I had damaged my sight for about 15 seconds. On a different note, isn't Budget Cuts out today? Oops no, it's the 16th of next month.

Elite Dangerous was one of the first games I played in the vive while I was covering a game show and I was instantly sold on it. I even have a decent HOTAS and have sunk hours into it. I also have voice attack... William Shatner is the voice of my AI... And it's simply amazing to use simple verbal commands to replace searching for the buttons. That said, my VR space is limited so setting up the controllers is a pain. And then there's the text. On top of that I just don't have the time for it. When I get a pro I will be coming back to this and I will most definitely be watching Star Trek on Netflix while hauling cargo.

You don't have to justify your financial "investments" to us. I think the money I spent on the Vive + HOTAS + Subpac S2 + GearVR mod ALL make this experience worth it. It's the closest thing to actually being in a space ship as I will ever be and whenever I sit new blood down in my command seat it blows their ****ing minds. Worth it for me, for you, and to hell with everyone else who disagrees.

Oculus Dash does ingame desktop monitor overlays too for. But this is good alternative for non Oculus users or those that want extra features this app has.

I have been playing elite for 4 years now. I NEVER had to use keyboard and mouse. full Hotas support has always been there.

I have done up to 14 hour stretches in vivecraft with a video window playing in game... I use an old plugin called OpenVRDesktopDisplayPortal (I think it was actually the pre-cursor to OVR, and really I'll probably just buy a copy of that sometime in the future) VoiceAttack, and a good TTS system are a must for truly immersive and excellent simulation gaming in VR!!!!!!!!

Im using an Oculus CV1, and have no problem reading the text in Elite. It's also lot cheaper than the Vive Pro

i play ed on the vive regularly i use the x52 pro but a must for me is the hcs voice packs and voice attack the setup is a bit time intensive but when its up and running having Brian Blessid yelling flash quotes as i enter combat (as the voice packs now reads ed and know whats happening in game) is amazing! the packs don't give you full automation (a good thing imho) it does give you a lot more control without flicking through the panels, and will set you up for combat when you get ganked from supercruise it really feels like you have an ai on your ship

I CAN"T STOP playing Elite: Dangerous. I have dozens of VR games I haven't even tried yet because if ED.

Great video Trible. I have also done some ED in VR and I use the Logitech X56 (Trible is correct they bought Saitek) and it is amazing. Also some bad news for windows 7 users out there, OVRdrop is not windows 7 compatible although the developers are working on it.

@TribalInstincts Do you have Ehler's Danlos Syndrome? I was recently diagnosed at the Mayo Clinic. My hyperflexibility is most detrimental to my shoulders, hips and knees, so VR is really good, because I can't always move around or even stand. But VR, and games in general, allow me to virtually escape. Due to my condition, I deal with other stuff, like severe pain on a constant basis, passing out or heart rate spikes when I stand up, and inability to reach the restful stages of sleep.

I usually put my screen to one side, it is strangely more enjoyable way to watch than sitting on the couch. I have clocked up around 1100 hours into this game, the learning curve is steep but worth it.

I use a 360 controller for Elite Dangerous and I find it fine. Not as immersive though like you said I'd imagine. I also use just a plain Vive, not a Pro.

If you dont have another controller to your side while playing this then you dont have enouth buttons mapped ;) You need to jump in with me and stu. We have wasted many late nights in VR.. even on the old Vive:)

I've heard getting a buttkicker rumble pack for your chair adds to the immersion more than you would think. I can read text in game just fine with my samsung odyssey HMD

Instead of spending $15 on this, you can download the free OpenVRDesktopDisplayPortal from github. It runs in unity and works with all vive games and nearly all oculus games.

It's been a little while since used OVRDrop, but if I recall, you can set it up to track with the HMD, so I think I'll plug in my headless ghost and fire up SkVRim and watch some X-Files...

Have you used Daily VR before?:) Im thinking to get OvrDrop or DailyVR.... OvrDrop looks nice but some people say the settings is quite complex... Daily VR seems easy to use and can have multiple overlay but I havent seen many reviews....

The point of HOTAS is hands on throttle and stick... so you shouldn't need to use the mouse at all or the keyboard. It's possible to assign all functions to hotas (x52/x55/warthog) but I just have the major functions on hotas. Default warthog profile that ships with elite. Voice attack and HCS voice makes life easier.

You gotta try the combination of elite and HCS voice paks. It is amazing!

Does this stack with the "elite VR cockpit" or similar vr controller joystick overlay? Although a hotas combined with hand tracking and voice attack would be a VR dream..

5:48, same here bud. Some people spend 100+ bucks a weekend on the beer, others spend 900 bucks a year on phones, everyone has a money sink of some sort. At least the enjoyment time vs cost from games is most of the time way better than most. Mind you, when that paycheck comes in and the upgrade itch sets in...... HOOK GAMING INTO MY VEINS I'm just about staving off the temptation to get another 1080ti because I've run out of upgrade paths...

Now if you want to really step it up and you are looking for a BIG project build yourself one of these www.acesim.com/main.html I know it looks like a few weekends but its more complicated than it looks and some of the parts are NLA throwing dimensions off(plans not updated). I have a mill and lathe and it took about 6 months (very off and on) to finish it and add a few mods, but holy moly its next level sim flying. With CH-products hotas and pedals it was about $800 total.

I'll be that guy and mention that you can do this on the rift using the new oculus home beta (is it still in beta? ). Obviously you have to have Elite running from the Oculus store for it to work. Haven't tried opacity levels though so not sure if that's supported

Why were you ever using both a hotas and m+k? Just use one or the other. Or don't use a hmd. Seems like you were making it hard on yourself to play two years ago.

I used to play ED with my Vive like 2 years ago and the the antialiasing was broken in VR, so I stopped playing waiting a fix from Frontier... that didn't happen in a whole year so I just moved on to other games. Did they fixed it already? Or the lack of AA is still a big issue in VR (unlike about any other VR game)?

I love this game in VR (HTC VIVE) but I haven't managed to get rid of those artificially shiny pixels/lines... especially in space stations. I think they call it 'spectral aliasing' does ANYONE know how to get rid of that? and yes i think this ovrdrop will improve my life immensely lol.
