I mean, if you saw what Stephen Moffat did with John Watson on Sherlock or Rory Williams in Doctor Who, you'd understand he just doesn't like men. That's why he made Jonathan Harker such a putz in this show too.

Well, technically people do say "man in charge", but its also technically the form of "man" that applies to all Humans, I think. Anyways, its not meant to be "men only", it just sounds weird for a woman to say so that's why people don't use it anymore.

@@GBDupree That one I'll grant but the other one about van Helsing being "an intelligent woman in a crucifix" being his worst nightmare or whatever is just peak cringe. I *hate* what they did with this story. Dracula is a story of four friends (Jonathan, Mina, Quincy, and John Seward) coming together and making a vow to kill a monster because it killed one of their friends (Lucy) and almost killed two more (Jonathan and Mina). Mina is an active participant the entire time; while then men are dealing with Dracula himself she and van Helsing go back to Castle Dracula and kill the Brides. Mina has a psychic connection to Dracula as a result of him nearly killing her, and that's very relevant to the plot. Jonathan and Mina's relationship is also extremely wholesome, most of Jonathan's letters are him gushing about how much he loves her, and she spends a lot of time doing the same for him. There was no reason to change the story this much, other than political points.

I swear I thought the new athiest movement was dead but it turns out it’s still around in the writing rooms of Netflix, HBO, Amazon and Hulu.

Even at 3:10 or so--I've met plenty of Christians who say they would love to die in church. That's not the burn the writer thinks it is. There's a veritable laundry list of uuuuuuggghh, but we're three minutes in and we're already beginning.

And don't forget that it had to go through purgatorial cleansing before it could hit the algorithm

Netflix didn't really make it, just got the license. The trash really belongs to the BBC so the real question is why does Netflix only buy the most trash products?

Maybe the real friends were the Dracula that Netflix made along the way.
