I think you captured the theme quite accurately: love heals. I agree with you that Miyo needs to find other things to live for other than Kudo. I think that's the biggest mistake romance media often makes, is that it subliminally sends this message, to girls and women in particular, that your soulmate will be your everything and you won't need anything or anyone but him. I'm 31 and still single but I can confidently say from my own experiences and watching and talking to others that that just isn't how reality works. No human being is selfless and perfect all the time. You will fight with your spouse and they will disappoint you sometimes. As it is with all relationships, be it friends, families, colleagues, or aquitances. When you base all your happiness on one person, then your world will shatter when that person lets you down. And they will. It's inevitable. A healthy life means balancing all the relationships in your life and having something of your own that gives you a purpose (typically work but not necessarily). As much as I absolutely adored this anime, the thought i kept having is that it isn't real at all. I've heard stories of girls getting married to get away from their families, or girls thinking marriage will improve their life. Most often, those situations end poorly. This show is most definitely a female fantasy, but I won't fault it for being one. It deserves all the praise you gave it for the reasons you did. The show already with the 2nd half shows Miyo growing in confidence and starting to find purpose with her powers and I really hope the show continues that trajectory with the 2nd season!

You cannot believe how much i wanted to sucker pnuch Miyo's family watching MHM. Girl deserves her love with Kudo and vice versa. And the fact they tried to rip that away from her is scummy. Karma got them good in the end
I think it's really funny you mentioned that the FL (female lead) is not someone the viewer projects their love onto and the ML(male lead) is not a self insert when ! from my perspective as a female viewer, and abuse victim (oops haha) is i was viewing things from the FL's perspective and projecting myself on her and the ML would be the typical kind of ML i would fall for or like in manga or novels of the same kind I typically like reading stories with a FL who's lead a horrible life, then gets shipped off to a ML who will make her more miserable, but either he isnt that or he's just cold to her but he's much better than her family- Or he's a victim too and they bond together/he finds out about her abuse and goes ape shit on her abusers !! makes me thrive makes me live haha it's one of my favorite types of reads, like i can breathe again after haha i ofc also like it when the mc slaps the people who hurt them in the past themselves but for obvious reasons people cant bring themselves to do that a lot of the time. after all a lot of abuse victims especially from familial type of abuse- or maybe it's a asian family thing haha is like.. you still love them, you still love the people in your family who will hurt you again and again because they're not black and white they're people too but just because theyre bad people and hurt you doesnt mean they don't love you. and you dont love them. That's the worst part for me haha i wish I could hate my parents but i cant so i have to just live through wish-fullfillment fantasy where the parents are black and white evil and the mc gets her love her happy ending and her revenge (hope this doesnt sound like me defending?? abusers or dictating every victim's experience 💀💀 just mine a few of my friends and THIS IS KINDA JUST ME GOING KINDA OFF TRACK ABOUT IT BUT BASICALLY CONCLUSION IT'S FUN! Where the ML is the perfect man who will rescue you and fix you from the abuse!!! and You're this sad but pretty girl who's abused but ur also perfect and deserve to be loved and someone who is literally SO GOOD and IS PERFECT like more handsome than the guy you liked (who was a coward and married your bitch sister!!!) Thank you for your perspective! My opinion might have been too generalized from my own experiences so it’s interesting to hear how others may project themselves onto these characters. Perhaps a better way to say it would have been that the characters weren’t explicitly written to be self inserts like some anime, but then again I don’t know the authors intentions so I can’t say for certain
We’ll see, there’s definitely a lot of anime out that I want to cover and I hate to say it but I’m not enjoying the next six as much as the first, though I have a few episodes left
