This infrastructure was built over years by many people, and Netflix employees are probably among the best engineers, which you don't need to be to be a coder. Learning how to code takes time, yes, and also it might be easier or harder depending on your predispositions, but this is definitely not where you would start.

@Musa_Media_
@Musa_Media_ Месяц назад
I was thinking that a little as well, but there is huge value in thinking about every piece of software you touch when building and selling a product….. IF you can understand what it does to improve your user’s experience. If a technology doesn’t really improve the user experience in anyway then it’s pointless to spend energy thinking about (which often is the case). In this particular video it’s probably pointless for a senior level engineer to think about the project management software being used (although that could make a difference in the end product), but the most important part of maximizing the user experience is probably going to be in choosing the right technologies and building the product correctly with the selected tools. For a senior level backend engineer they should know how to choose the right tech stack to make the best user experience.

And if you talk to the devs, they probably curse at how complex this is. I'm so done with the stupidity of saying that an architecture is good because it is used by a large company. If I had a dollar for every time some "developer" told me that we had to switch to some particular type of stack because he heard of a big company that used it, I'd be rich. What you are looking at for netflix is not designed, it evolved, just like all your crappy stacks did, but it's netflix so you blindly assert that it must be designed and at the top of it's field. All nonsnse.
