The first panel removed gives access to the CMOS battery - to replace far in the future.

And some extra fan like headers. Would have been so cool to have the m.2 ports over there

Awesome video, thanks! Thinking about getting this unit. Were you able to find out if the 2240 or 2280 SSDs work and in which slot and, up to how much memory? Thanks!

glad it was useful ! Actually the answer is YES. I played around with some nvme drives and was able to switch the os to nvme. It is a bit different procedure but it can be done without issues. I will need to reshoot the process and will post the how-to video most likely next week.

This looks a lot like the Silicom Valencia series of devices. I wonder if they’re the OEM? If so, maybe we’ll see a 10GB version in the future. The CPU in this one is more powerful than 8200 Max.

It's a little beast indeed. For sure there is room to add 10GB ports but probably not to soon since it will overlap with the 6100

I wonder if it uses less or more watts than the 4100. The 4100 was quite an efficient box ~11w.
@TricksAndThings
@TricksAndThings 6 месяцев назад
That would be interesting to test. Unfortunately i do not have a 4100 anymore and in order to get a correct measurement the same watt meter should be used for both units.

I do miss SFP.
@TricksAndThings
@TricksAndThings 2 дня назад
I know,, they are useful but not everyone makes use of them in this price range. the 8300 Has a lot of them but that unit is too expensive to buy and tear down :)
@EuroPC4711

@@TricksAndThings well the 4100 and even 2100 do have sfp.
@TricksAndThings
@TricksAndThings День назад
@@EuroPC4711 I was actually thinking of sfp+ in my mind :) since the 4100 is EOS, then indeed the 2100 is the only low price unt from Netgate that has a sfp combo port. Not sure how useful it is since it's only 1gbps and way harder to work with than a plain RJ45 connector. Maybe for some legacy network equipment.

@@TricksAndThings well I think it’s useful if you have fiber because you don’t need a device between Internet and Netgate. But yes, it’s only 1 gigabit.

with such massive box they could have fitted the power supply in :(
@TricksAndThings
@TricksAndThings 6 месяцев назад
true.. a lot of free space in there. probably they decided to keep the power supply separate for easy replacement in case they break. I had almost all Netgate devices and still have a lot of desktop models. In a lot of years, I only had one psu fail.

Good video but I would suggest that in the future you lose the background music. It’s a major distraction to add music on how-to and explanation videos. Thank you

Thank you for the comment and the feedback. I indeed noticed that the music is not well suited. Later videos have extremely low volume and will probably drop it entirely.

The door is to access the battery for replacement.

I truly hope that you are right and the device is so durable that we will get to change the battery a few times .... or it could simply drain it very fast .. hmmm :)

No 10Gbs ?
@TricksAndThings
@TricksAndThings 6 месяцев назад
Unfortunately not. only 2.5 Ethernet but that is sufficient for most applications. For a true 10gb network I would probably go 8200 MAX (6100 on steroids) and up.

@TricksAndThings
@TricksAndThings 5 месяцев назад
@ViorelMocanu
@ViorelMocanu 5 месяцев назад
Merci mult!
@TricksAndThings
@TricksAndThings 5 месяцев назад

@TricksAndThings
@TricksAndThings 5 месяцев назад

I don't understand why they would design the case so the top is curved. That makes no sense to me. With all that space, you'd think there would be an integrated switch with at least four more ports. Strange. And then there's no branding on the front. Was this designed by the marketing department??
@TricksAndThings

The case looks nice in hand but I am also surprised of the lack of branding on the front.

Thanks for taking it apart like that. Now looking forward to Lawarence Systems video, both of yours should complement each other well I'd assume. Very nice to know the different sizes and what is needed. Thanks !! Hopefully he'll take it apart too, but you were FIRST !! www.youtube.com/@LAWRENCESYSTEMS/videos

Thank you for the feedback!. Once the firmware for the 4200 is available I will also flash some Nvme drives and try to extend the storage on both pice x3 and x4 slot. LAWRENCESYSTEMS will definitely do a proper configuration and performance test for this unit. Also looking forward to it being released.

Junk. No SFP ports and the lack of M2 is inexcusable. Running an eMMC is not appropriate for such a device.
@TricksAndThings
@TricksAndThings 6 месяцев назад
They did a closer match to the old 3100 that is oriented more to home/ small office. Even if there is no m.2 behind that small cap, later in the video you can see that it has 3 m.2 ports. From those 3, 1 turns out to be shared usb/pcie x3 and the other is a pcie x4. Once i get the firmware i will try to bypass that emmc and install an nvme drive

@@TricksAndThings if an end user can painlessly install an M2, then I will change my feedback. Shame there’s no rack mount for it either yet. Thanks for this teardown.
