As a Dutchman I even want to go so far as to say that if Anouk didn't qualify we probably would've left Eurovision. So it was an important moment for Dutch Eurovision history
Crazy that they went for years with awful entries and not qualifying only to then get top 10 in 2013 and then nearly win in 2014. Such an insane comeback. On another note, I think they had a really strong 2010s. Obviously they won in 2019, but 2014-17 was also a great run of form. Lastly, 2021 was so undeserved. The staging let it down but it was such a wonderful song.
The Netherlands dropped the national selection after 2012. Anouk said she wanted to represent the Netherlands in 2013, but only if she would be selected internally. And, to be honest, she knows what's good and what's bad. In my opinion, the Dutch Eurovision entry should always be selected by people who know what works and what doesn't, even though also then mistakes can be made (2023). The Dutch people (tja, sorry landgenoten) are not the ones who should choose.
@@meindertbrouwer279 and 2023 is a rare exception of a slip up, regardless of what I think about the songs selected they all minus 2 qualified and this year will definitely qualify as well
2020 had way too many good songs, it would’ve qualified because they won but it wouldn’t have done well due to the quality of the songs. Even germanys was good
OMG, YES! Imagine that the Dutch speaking countries (Belgium and The Netherlands) will share 10 Q’s in 20 Years each if they both qualify for next year’s Grand Final!
I still hope for Slovenia's first victory. But The Netherlands had already won four times prior so it's not exactly the same. I didn't realize it didn't qualify from 2005 to 2012.
Here are the entries that I loved: 1956: Corry Brokken - Voorgoed Voorbij 1957: Net Als Toen 1958: Heel de wereld 1959: Een Beetje 1965: Heet is genoeg 1966: Fernando en Filipo 1967: Ringe dinge ding 1969: De troubadour 1975: Ding a donc 1976: The party is over now 1990: Ik wil alles met je delen (My FAVORITE DUTCH ENTRY AND MY WINNER OF 1990!) 2022: De Diepte (my previous winner) From Lebanon 🇱🇧
Well… it’s good to know we at least qualified this year. But damn.. we really had a huge chance to get a good position this year. At least we made history being the first country to be DQ’ed during the competition… not sure if I’m proud of it though…
the fact that Glennis Grace failed to qualify is crazy to me since she went to AGT and did really good over there and is a populair singer in The Netherlands for quite some time now lol
True.. unfortunately they were just not made to win. Even if your mentor is a winning performer. Us Dutchies were just not impressed with their performance either…
The Netherlands had a rough 8 years during the late 2000s and early 2010s, didn't they?? Honestly, they deserved to qualify in 2005, 2008 and 2012 in my opinion. I also like their 2007 entry though I think she should've sung the Dutch Version. Unpopular opinion but I really like their 2015 one too, yeah the staging was pretty basic but I still like listening to it. They had a pretty good song this year, but it was kinda killed with its' staging and the singers' vocals, no offense to the artists or the country 🇬🇷♥️🇳🇱
Top Dutch entries 2014-2023 1. Arcade (2019) - 10/10 2. Calm After The Storm (2014) - 8/10 3. De Diepte (2022) - 8/10 4. Birth of The New Age (2021) - 7/10 - I really like it - "Your rythm is rebelion, Your rythm is rebelion!" 5. Burning Daylight (2023) - 7/10 6. Lights And Shadows (2017) - 6,5/10 7. Grow (2020) - 6,5/10 8. Outlaw In Em (2018) - 6/10 9. Slow Down (2016) - 6/10 10. Walk Along (2015) - 5/10
Netherlands in 2010's and early 2020's is like we have USA at Eurovision..too many generic pop songs and many of them sound very similar. I'm glad 2024 has finally something different to offer. Good luck to you🤗 Also if I notice that right 2022 was the first year since 1998 to have song in Dutch. And then this year again!!
look at the amount of NQ’s that they got with the National Selection… and now Dutchies want a National Selection/NF back? with internal they only got 2 NQ’s so far….
I don’t think that bringing National Songfestival is such a good idea, because with that concept, only Re-Union has managed to qualify to the Grand Final in 2004 for The Netherlands and the rest up until 2012 has all resulted in non-qualifications!
@@vikramleon That's because our former broadcasters didn't know what to do and aimed for the wrong criteria. Things are different now. With good songs, we'd get good results. Simple as that.
I must to admit, The Netherlands had some damn good songs. 1980 Amsterdam, no offence to Johnny Logan but this song should have won 1984: I really do like this one 1998: How the hell did Edsilia finished behind Dana International. 2013:Birds one of my all time favorites. So much better than Danmark 2014:Should have won, sorry Conchita 2019: Of course... 2022: De diepte... such a good song!!! Deserved so much better!!! Honorable mentions : 1969, 1974, 2001
the 1970 and 1981 contestants served as backing vocalists for different years for Belgium: 1986: Stella and Bianca Maessen (backed up Sandra Kim) 1999: Linda Williams (backed up Vanessa Chinitor)
and big artists who represented the Netherlands are: * Sandra Reemer (1972, 1976, 1979 and 1983 as a backing vocalist for Bernadette) * Gerard Joling (1988 & 2009 as a member of The Toppers) * Maywood (1990) * Mrs. Einstein (1997) * Edsilia Rombley (1998, 2007 and one of the 4 hosts of the 2021 contest in Rotterdam) * Glennis Grace (2005) * Anouk (2013) * The Common Linnets (2014) * OG3NE (2017) * Duncan Laurence (2019) * S10 (2022)
2023 would've qualified if they'd maintained this arrangement from the beginning and not made people too used to the version they struggled with singing live.
I was married to a Dutch. I loved the "it's over" song. A dreadful language for music wonderful for curses..good looking people who can sing but shouldnt sing in Dutch if they wish to win
Im dutch but i think we ( The Netherlands ) is not a strong country in the Eurovision , Oke we won 5 times and a good runner up back in 2014 , but that doesnt mean that we are good
Now i understand why my marriage failed,it breaks your teeth to say "i love you"😅what a horrible sounding phrase of a horrible sounding language. Probobly the least musical language
