The biggest athlete of the Netherlands now is Sifan Hasan but historically we had Fanny Blankers-Koen (4 times gold in a single Olympics)

It is an unbelievable achievement for such a small country, spread over many different sports and athletes. To see Sifan Hassan win and get her medal in front of billions of people is amazing. She deserves it but also the other medal winners must be congratulated. The proudest moment is actually the win by the 4x400 meters mixed and both hockey teams winning the gold but one of the greatest achievements off all time must be Sifan Hassan winning the marathon after running the 10,000 meters 36 hours before that! The only negative is that it will be extremely hard to get the same number of medals in LA or even in any of the Olympics after that. The bar has been put very high and I hope that there will be not too much disappointment if the same level can not be won. But that’s 4 years away so let’s celebrate now! Goed gedaan allemaal en Bedankt!,

Like Sifan Hassan also said, there were MANY oranje supporters in Paris lol. Right after we finished with silver at the womens 4x400 estafette, they even played the ‘Links Rechts’ song in the arena. I think you can watch it back on youtube. We also had our own big teamNL tribute center there, where we honored our winning athletes after they were done, each time. With the ‘Links Rechts’ artist as the host. Its just different with the olympics compared to international football (or other teamsport) events. Bc 1. The Oranje parade with the bus is specifically just for football. 2. We can easily be overshadowed by many more worldwide visitors and the olympics is much more international than a football EC or WC. 3. With football the tickets are just sold to ppl from the 2 countries playing, mostly. But with many sports during the olympics, many countries participate in the same arena at the same time, so not many Oranje fans are able to be there. Only exceptions are the team based sports. Where we did in fact fill the arenas with oranje 😁

To answer your questions: links-rechts is in the video, at 5:30 the women hockey team is doing that dance with the royal family (king, queen and 2 princesses) and after that you see our 4x400 women relay team (silver) doing that same dance with the audience in the stadium. The stadiums were packed with Dutch supporters, but ofc there wasn't a march. Where would they march to? There are multiple disciplines going on at the same time, it's not a football match in only one stadium. Besides that, this march is really a football thing anyway.

You make great analyses. Ofcourse we ourselves were also gladly surprised that we won so many medals. 6th place on the medal list ! (even above Great Brittain and Germany). But it is no surprise that we win so many medals with 'Aquatic sports' (rowing, sailing, swimming) and all forms of Cycling. In our normal life, we have to deal with a lot of water (everywhere) and all our kids learn to walk, cycle, swim and skate from a very young age. Other reasons are the great sport facilities we built and our 'unifying' colour: Orange.

Hard to say who is the biggest athlete but most well known is probably Formula 1 driver Max Verstappen. Most well known of all time I guess that is footbal legend (both as player and as coach) Johan Cruijff. When it comes to this particular Olympics I can safely say that both Femke Bol and Sifan Hassan are the most well known and regarded of them all.

For these Olympics I would also ad Harrie Lavreysen with his 3 golden medals. His name might not be top of mind for many people because his sport isn’t in our national news much, if ever outside of the Olympics.

They did some math. Total medals since start of the olympics. If u look at population. Usa score 0.28. Netherlands 1.19. Australia score best 1.69. About Brazil dont forget its also about money. Netherlands spend alot of money in sports. More money means beter training. But we have one problem. For example. Some talents we have now quit before next olympics because of age. We have a good sport generation this year. But maybe next time we have not. Thats always with Netherlands because we are small. Bigger country means more talents. Look at football. One WK we play the final a other time we are not playing in WK or EK (bad generation). Also its always diferent sports. Example. One olympic we have a good swim generation who win medals. Other olympic we have a good gymnastics generation. Some sports in the Netherlands we always have a change to win. This time we have some good runners. Normaly no Dutch runners in finals. Sometimes it takes 20 years or more to win a medal in a sport again. Example. We only have one Sifan Hassan. When she quits we dont have a new talent at this time. So in the Netherlands most talents do 2 olympics maybe 3. After that we need new talents and sometimes we must wait for 20 years.

Right now I would say Harrie Lavreysen due to his 5 gold medals and 1 bronze in just 2!! Olympics. But there are so many more legends walking around but not active anymore. But Also let's not forget Marit Bouwmeester as she has been officially announced as the Greatest Sailor in the world right now and Siffan Hassan! Those are the best of the best right now, but so many more to name.

the best sporters in my opinion are for the summer Harry Lavreysen with 5 gold and 1 bronze in 2 olympics, 13 world championships abd several worldrecords in cycling on track for the winter Irene Wüst with 6 gold 5 silver and 2 bronze olympics medals in 5 concecutive olympics 7 world championship alround and 15 worldchampionships on individual distances and several worldrecords in speed skating my most proud moment is Siffan Hassans medal gold ceremony during the closing ceremony making our nathional anthem being played there, for me it felt like that this ceremoniy was not for Siffan alone but for the entire team

There is really nothing to be proud of. It is just a matter of money and good sports facilities. And besides, it is not important at all, except for the people directly involved. Many people here don't care at all about the number and colour of the medals.

The biggest atlete was Irene Wust at the winterolympics. She did speedskating. Her favourite distances were 1000 and 1500 metres. Your question about we're i was most proud on. I can't chose between Harrie and Sifan. But when i had to choose i say Sifan Hassan. Because I really was so emotional last sundaymorning. What she did was not done before the last 60 years. In one week 5000 metres, 10000 metres after that the marathon and that is not only the finals but also the qualifications for the finals. These we're the distances we're she scored 3 years ago at the olympics in Tokyo both a gold medal. But now these distances we're not as imported. Because she had a dream. A big dream. And her dream was run and win the marathon. She has never run a marathon before,.And when you run the marathon the 5000 metres and 10000 metres in one week before the marathon is simply too much. But hey SHE DID IT. Nobody believed. But she did it. I get now again goosebumps when i see her run the last hundred metres. In an Olympic record. A track that was heavy because of the hills. She had almost a collision with the other girl. But she survived it and she took the lead over. Man. Hassan. GOLD!! Netherlands will never forget you. You wrote history.

Sifan did run 2 marathons before. She had her debut at the London Marathon, which she won. And then she ran the Chicago marathon, which she also won. The Olympic marathon was her third one. We all know what happened.

The greatest athlete is so difficult. Harry Lavrysen has 3 gold medals. Marit Bouwmeester is the best sailor ever. Femke Bol is great. Sifan Hassan is the queen of the Games. Gold in the marathon. But also the athletes who have achieved personal records. I forget the Hockey men and women. Just hard to say who were the best. All trained so hard in various sports. BMX. Clean swimming our first bronze medal ever. 3x basketball Worthy de Jong. Rowing phenomenal.

You have to understand that the Netherlands funds training facilities very well. Most sports are being trained at "Papendal" facility under top coaches. It is a top notch school where athletes live, go to school, and train. It is scientifically led life. Everything you do, and eat is monitored. It is even monitored by registration of your purchases in the restaurant if you keep your individual diet. You have to live your sport 100% and have a very rare talent. Your diet is made by a top notch (Dutch) professor in nourishment. Your cash register is evaluated with you every week. There is no privacy and very little free time. If the results do not show progression, you are out. Very harsh. The winter sporters have the top notch Heerenveen ice track and Inzell for altitude training. However that is not as developed as Athletics.

In my opinion u cant really compare athletics in their different sports and exclaim 1 is the best. What is best athlete? The 1 with the most Olympic games? The 1 with the most world records? The 1 with the most World Championships? Or like Sifan Hassan, the 1 who gotten the most medals in different distances in Olympic games? Its not really fair to compare different achievements with eachother, it would be better to specify ur question to get a better answer, u have to tighten it down more so u can compare better. Ireen Würst for example had amazing achievements in ice speed skating, on the other hand what Sifan Hassan done in 2 Olympic games with winning medals on all these different distances and with that amazing short recovery time in between (with series and half-finals to qualify first) is kind of out of this world, but also what Harrie Layfresen in the indoor cycling did was very amazing. And we can also go more back in time with sports, but all and all for me its hard to say which 1 was the best cause they all did amazing things and we should be proud and awed by that.
