Dutch fans gathered in Westerpark in Amsterdam to watch their side in the Euro 2024 semi-final against England on Wednesday (10th July).
There was a party atmosphere right from the start - the early goal from Xavi Simons adding to this.
But a Harry Kane equaliser followed by the late Ollie Watkins winner saw England through 2-1 - and left the disappointed Dutch trying to make the best of the rest of their evening.

I saw an article yesterday that apparently the dutch fans were being violent towards the English, then I saw livestreams of Dutch and English fans, talking together, laughing together, drinking together, dancing together and just having a good time. I am English and the Netherlands played very well. Big respect. Huge respect to Virgil Van Dijk for his interview afterwards, took the defeat like a champ.

Rule number one. Never ever take the media viewpoint as fact. Everything is twisted to fit whatever narrative they want. You can have a room of a hundred. 90 will be absolutely fine, but those 10 that aren't become the focus and drags down the rest. Dutch is one of the closest languages to English. We have common ancestry. As you say though football expresses itself in the emotion written over people's faces, the synchronised roar when the ball hits the back of the net or palms touching foreheads when its against our own team.

As a Croatian, after witnessing our many euphoric comebacks and heartbreaking last minute catastrophies, I can only say that the ball is generous on some occasions and brutal on other. Last night was brutal for you, but it's all a matter of perspective - after ten years, you've reached the semis of a major tournament again, and to be honest, everyone who knows a thing or two about football expects no less from you. I think not having Frankie De Jong available became a major blow as the Dutch teams’s midfield creative spark and being able to win the ball back and create spaces. Without him, I think the Dutch team reaching the semis was a good end result for this tournament.

I mean they stuck 11 men behind the ball and were playing for extra time and penalties about 30 minutes in. If thats 'making England work for it' then modern football really is screwed. Would've been a travesty if the Dutch had made the Final, they were second best throughout.

Brit here I had my doubts about the penalty but you take the decisions rough and smooth and on the night it went our way, Netherlands were brilliant opponents and fans were well meaning and should be proud.

Absolutely love the Dutch! So bittersweet! 🥹. Many English, as it appears the players, were shocked at being awarded a penalty. No appeals were made by the players. Kane was obs in pain .. but, just that, a whack at pace, on the shin! It hurts … but I don’t think he expected a penalty. Fantastic fans and very gracious in defeat. Netherlands was always my second team in my youth, mostly because I loved watching the fans, but it was also the golden era of Dutch football with some of the best players of all time dazzling us with their skills. I'm sure that it would be an amazing experience to be over there with them hosting a tournament. UEFA/FIFA/Netherlands, make it happen.

Love the dutch, our fans and theirs are one in the same, same energy by far the 2 best lots of fans in the world. It was a good game and although we had the best first 65, dutch started coming on strong and it was looking worrying for us going into extra time but the subs changed the game. Absolutely devastating for them, but absolutely exhilarating for us. This is football.

I'm English and was relieved and delighted we scraped home. Congratulations to those great Dutch fans. No complaints or mention of that soft penalty. We were just so lucky.
