The second Swiss round of Canadian Nationals 2023 (East Coast Edition) pits is44ru's hyper-glacier Azmari EdTech and its armada of Hydras against Hany's swappy bouncy Hermes Tāo. Can the new Criminal console effectively pair up with Tāo's ability to swap some of the chunkiest ice in the format?
Commentary by Andrej Gomizelj (he/him) and Patrick Sklar (he/him). Stay jacked in to the Métropole Grid for more Netrunner content. [The Runner loses a click, if able].

I can't believe I'm watching a real life Netrunner match on youtube in 2023. Thank you so much for this!

Videos like this are also how I got into Netrunner, and I'm stoked to hopefully inspire a new generation. Thanks for the kind words, eh.

This stellar commentary has really motivated me to get more active in the local Chicago community! Love to see the game played at this level instead of my kitchen table system gateway brews.

That's awesome! I can't recommend getting invovled in local communities enough. Meeting folks who are equally excited about this game is always the beginning of something great.

Man I love the editing of the video!! LOVE IT!! Does all your other matches videos are edited like this?
@MetropoleGrid
@MetropoleGrid Год назад
Thank you! All of the matches in the ongoing Canadian Nationals series will be edited like this! If you want to dive into some of the older 'meat space' games on the channel, they're also edited like this as well (but without some of the flourishes).

Wow the edits that went into this are amazing, the little bubbles on the cards that are being used. Straightup Chefkiss Anyways kind of a shame we didn't see the Airblades used, its very effective on Surveyor.
@MetropoleGrid
@MetropoleGrid Год назад
Hey Zeroth! Glad you like the bubbles - in the edits, I was getting lost following Hoshikos' start of turn triggers, and I stumbled across a pretty intuitive solution. Unfortunately, Airblades only works on 'when encountered' clauses, while Surveyor has a static ability. You can Hush a Surveyor, and then all instances of X drop to 0, which is pretty sick. Thanks for the kind words, eh!

Excellent stream. Azmari Glacier is good for the game.

Do you think it's a reasonable deck for a VERY rusty returning player to pick up?

Azmari feels like such a rough deck to play against.

Returning player who has lurked here but barely played in some time. Is this NBN deck a good one to get started with for a glacier style?
@MetropoleGrid
@MetropoleGrid 11 месяцев назад
Hey tineye! I think it would be. It might not be particularly exhilarating, but there's a fair bit of important decision making tied to managing the agendas in central servers, and intelligent ice positioning. Give it a shot!

Is one-sided swiss common in contemporary Netrunner?
@MacrotisLagotis
@MacrotisLagotis Год назад
its becoming more and more common yes! the rationale is that it eliminates 241s, at the cost of playing slightly less netrunner/hr. but in practice it evens out since it eliminates 241s and greatly reduces IDs. there are a lot of arguments for either format. a lot of players enjoy having 2 games against the same opponent and don't bother with 241s and IDs anyway.
@MetropoleGrid
@MetropoleGrid Год назад
As Macrotis said, Single-Sided Swiss is a relatively new format (it was only formalized into Null Signal Games' organized play policies earlier this summer), and I'm a huge fan of it. There are a lot of frustrations that arise within Double-Sided Swiss, particularly the abundance of 241s and IDs. The SSS format ensures a greater number of players are playing more Netrunner at any given event, and I think that's great. If you want to run your own SSS event, check out www.aesopstables.net/ - shout-out to YsengrinSC, the original SSS evangelist, who put together the entire website.

Outstanding quality video. Spectacular commentary. But this is a very boring match. Azmari is just a snor to watch. Shame because Hermes Tao is super fun. The day Azmari rotated cannot be soon enough.
