Always have cabelers lable the pannels and jacks as room#-drop#. Its so so so beneficial to be able to just look at the patch pannels and see where all the wiring goes.
When we contract new cabling out, it's always very professional and labelled clearly. It's when our in-house engineering staff do it that they many times don't label the cables and I have to call them back out and ask them, "where does this go? And where does this one go?" *Sigh* Maybe some day they'll get it right. God bless!
One thing I like about the Dell PowerConnect 2000 series switches is that their stacking cables aren't special. They're regular DAC cables used for storage gear. Love how Dell able to make use of existing stuffs without some weird cabling to make them work. So I have bunch of those cables as spares.
it's kinda a pisstake they really use their own cables for stacking. it should just be some generic interface, they should leave us to using our media.
These particular switches allow you to use either their "special" stacking cables or plain vanilla SFP modules to stack the switches. I elected to use the specialized stacking cables because it was what I was used to in their previous products and also to save the SFP ports for uplinks to the core. God bless!
Good morning sir! Sound like you're having too much fun over there! It's been a CANbus 101 weekend while deep diving into automotive power distribution just to have something to do. While having FreeBSD kill a couple of M.2 A+E 2.5G Realtek NICS on mini PC being used as a network firewall appliance.
I have a good friend who is an auto mechanic and he thinks I'm really smart. Then I hear him talking about all the computers and cables connecting them in a modern car and remind him that what he's doing is every bit as complicated as what I do. God bless!
How long have you been working in this field? its so nice to see a happy face in the server room. I just started a new job in network field. I🙏 hope to be as good as you smart people someday. God bless you
I've been working in this industry for over 30 years. I am only happy because my faith in God and Jesus has allowed me to learn to be content in any situation. I pray you will be better and smarter than I. Good luck and God bless!
Oh my man i think i found my channel for my last year in school. PLEASE whenever possible post what its like running your network. I am trying to get into network management and the like. Im completely online and after a year ive found it incredibly challenging to get some real experience or just shadowing on my hands. This is quite candid and just "normal video"
Thank you! I try to be as normal as possible. :-) Yeah, all these videos are spontaneous and completely unscripted. It's my "in the moment" take of what's going on. That's why my videos can appear awkward at times. God bless!
I have been working as a network admin in the military for one year now. I have experience switching routing, configuring firewalls, Encryption hardware and modems. I am currently working on my ccna. In your opinion, if you could pin point exactly what employers are looking for what would it be? I hope you are a having a blessed night or day aswell.
I can only tell you what I am looking for. Someone who will research and find the answers. Know how to find answers. And not give up. I'm pretty sure you can do that. And since you don't have a long career behind you, yeah, the certs will help. It's the only way employers really know you know what you know. You know? God bless!
Hey Network Admin. I would probably call Extreme TAC and fine out what is the hardware health command (Testing commands) for the network card. Just like any pc you can test the sound card or graphics card so see which card is giving you an issue. Vendors usually have hardware commands for testing hardware issues. Hope you are doing good.
I'm going to try to film another video on this topic this week. They've given me something to try out to try to narrow down where the problem lies; which stacking model, in which switch? We'll see. God bless!
We don't really map out cables. We do label both ends if it's in the data center. But mapping each and every network cable would require another network admin. We have thousands of network cables. I simply can't map them all. Just the crucial ones. God bless!
Hey! Grace & Peace 2 U today! Thank you once again for sharing another troubleshooting adventure!😁It was nice to see a stacking issue troubleshot, but not nice for you of course i always learn something new from your content! I'm looking forward to part 2 and seeing how the issue turns out! I would be really cool to see how you swap out the cards in the switches! Well as usual, I thank you for all that you do for us! Thank you for you your prayers and prayers from our brothers and sisters in Christ and I'll keep praying for you and your family. God Bless!🙏🏽
