Years ago I got into the subconscious mind techniques, I repeated in my mind everyday “I am a strong and confident man” I did that daily for months. I went to Thailand and met a Chinese girl, she said she did positive affirmations in her mind, I asked what she said to herself, she said “I am a strong and confident woman”. Weird huh.

Thanks for the practical, intelligent, clear, simple and easy to understand explanations of NLP concepts. For some strange reason, most NLP "experts" tend to complicate their explanations.

Thank you. I think a lot of NLP teachers, even well known ones, don't actually know NLP that well. They're just repeating what their teacher said. Teaching from a place of experience and clarity about the subject is completely different than teaching from the memory of what someone else taught.

Isn't Value Elicitation the same as "The Law of Attraction"?
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 4 года назад
I understand why you would think that. Yes and no... LOA is more theory and mindset. NLP is very little theory and mostly application and experience based. I would say no, values elicitation is not LOA because it's a very precise process to understanding what is driving your desire so that you can create an effective strategy to get it and enjoy the process along the way of achieving it. Put another way, so you can fulfill the value and when you fulfill the value, because you value it, you feel fulfilled. LOA is very little process and application and more trying to imagine something into reality. That never worked for me and I don't know anyone who has made it work. It's like the difference between learning theory of learning a language and actually learning a language. Thank you for your question.

I just ran into this video. Great information!!! I believe that I am visualizing incorrectly. I have all these plans and visions of positive aspirations, but I struggle to get "moving" on them. It's like I get stuck in neutral. The car is on, but I am in neutral. How do I put myself in drive? How do I take the first steps? When I do go into drive, is seems to almost be by mistake. I do not have a process down yet. A trigger that will allow me to get into motion. Thank You Again for a great video. You have a new subscriber for sure.
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 4 года назад
This is quite a common problem. You're asking the wrong questions. How to take the first step? How do you literally take steps, putting one foot in front of the other? You don't think about it. You just do it. It sounds like you are lacking a clear connection with your values. Connecting with your values is pure motivation. If you're looking externally for motivation, even if you find it, it will be temporary. Elicit your values for what you want, create a vision from that, and then create a strategy to get you there. Be willing to throw the strategy out and replace it if it's not working. The important thing is to stay connected to your values and project your vision on the world around you. If you're not moving forward, ask yourself "What stops me?". Deal with that resistance by integrating it. Don't shun it or push it away. Resistance is a part of you that has been isolated and wants to rejoin the rest of you. Make it an ally.

I wouldn't think of NLP as working instantly. NLP works quickly because we focus on structure rather than content. But nothing is perfect. It may take some time to understand what a problem is before being able to resolve it.

One of my senior business partners recommended this topic of study to my agency recently. I find it pretty interesting as I was thinking one morning on a walk (I am in the sales industry and I lead quite a large team/occationally speak to large audiencess) that "EQ is what you need to study!!!!" Emotional intelligence! NLP is pretty much breaking the topic of EQ Down into practical implementation to generate a higher probability of attaining adesired result. This is really cool! My inner Nerd is coming out!🤓😁 Thanks for the video! I appreciate it!👍

We need to learn these processes by practicing. That means we get off the cell phones and talk to real people so we can practice being the humans that we are before all the overlays. But notice people are not talking to each other? Everyone is playing a charade, only talk about things they hear and see on television. We need to be dialoguing all the time because then we'll come to solutions. There are no solutions within silence.

I always thought that if you want your kids to always come home and feel a sense of belonging and to prefer being at home instead of walking the streets and getting into trouble, always have something cooking for dinner when they get home from school. When they finish school they will have an unconscious desire to get home as the smell of nutritious and tasty food will stimulate their brains even before they've eaten it. And for parents who are home later, a slow cooker is the best thing to use when you have kids. The smell of hot food cooking when you get home will be welcoming to everyone. I suppose I was doing NLP over 30 years ago.

Can NLP help someone with an addiction? I mean oxycodone rewires the brain and changes the chemistry, and the people who quit have a high relapse rate and never truly quit (over 90% with opioid painkillers) and I'm not sure how the less than 10% that do stop their addiction stay sober without some kind of change in thinking. But can it help with that any research? Much appreciated if any answers or advice.
@DamonCart
@DamonCart Год назад
I'm not aware of any specific NLP processes or models for addiction, but they probably do exist. NLP is not just a methodology and a technology. It's also an approach to understanding the structure of how we create our sense of reality. In other words, I have no doubt if you learn and apply NLP to understanding and overcoming addiction, you'll find a way.

It is also worth noting that left handed people use right hemisphere to translate (and access) left hemisphere. So their brains are less lateralised and involve greater cooperation of hemispheres. There are many more examples, and plasticity of brains will make one brain work in other areas than typical.

NLP is modeling what we already do naturally. What you do naturally is typically not conscious so you can't change it. NLP is about taking these unconscious processes and making them conscious so you can change them and do them with intention.

Good intro to NLP. Although I'm no stranger to it. I've much to learn. ~ What You call an "anchor" I call a trigger. I COULD go on & on... rewording, attempting the application language disambiguation, to tackle my major issues with NLP conceptual or unidirectional modular "monotheism" but it won't help. I've observed MOST people stop learning by late teens, to mid 20s, thinking they've got enough of "a grip" on reality's logistics and then cling to their convictions, or convenience/confirmation biases, which they spend the rest of their lifetime and energy re-enforcing, and defending to the end... Not everyone, but most of us do this. Hey, Yo man, whatever floats your boat, fine by me. The More I learn = The More I HAVE to learn. Relative to what I don't know- ...There is no change. And yet...while I may know more of less- ...I "Understand" more and know less, everyday. As a towel gets wet, while it "dries." Always under construction, work in progress, continuous flux... Stillness is what gives MEANING to Movement. Living on a ball, means every direction leads to the same place... Therefore I've made my ultimate "destination" ...The journey itself. ~ Anyway-Thank you.
@blozzom2
@blozzom2 2 года назад
Very grateful for this intro. I see myself get put off by language about 'control' especially when the idea of using NLP to control or manipulate others. I just had an experience at a car dealership and some of what's in this video makes me think they were doing that stuff to me. Needless to say when I left the dealership I felt actually slightly nauseous disoriented and taken for granted. I think it's fair people want to call it being psychically raped. So while it's all very interesting and could be put into practice for my own benefit there's so much around this that makes me question whether this is a holistic practice. A holistic practice looks at the environment not just the self. A holistic approach considers the impact of my efforts on others and the natural world around me and generations to come not just my own success or happiness. The world needs more ethical people not more 'winners.' Unless the game we're playing is how to be a sane healthy balanced compassionate and wise person. I'm a parent and I want a world full of responsible and compassionate and wise people for my child.
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 2 года назад
What you're referring to as holistic we call ecological in NLP. You can misuse anything. A powerful modality can be abused and used for ill but it can also be used for fulfillment and the greater good.

I haven't read that book so I can't comment on it. As far The Secret, yes it's in this but this goes much further. NLP shows you practical applications instead of vague ideas about how to create and actualize your vision.

NLP is about recognizing and becoming aware of what we're already doing but is mostly unconscious. In as sense, we've all be doing NLP our entire lives. Becoming aware of it gives you more choice and control over these processes and patterns so instead of them controlling you, you control them. Thank you for your comment.

I read an intro to NLP book and I do recall it being a model, but I don’t remember it being discussed in depth. When reading that book, I created an anchor for myself. When I snap my finger and say (out loud or in my head) “energize” in an enthusiastic way, I gain more energy.

Our action and reaction comes from mental conditioning that accumulated through time and with NLP it uncovers deep rooted unprocessed emotions by bringing it to the light of our presence.

Hey Damon! I just subscribed and liked. I would love to be part of studying NLP. I've experienced a decent bunch of the processes you've mentioned in this video. Emotional intelligence is something that has resonated within myself since I was young, and I've grown to be a very empathetic person. NLP however is something a lot of us miss so much, and I would love to start getting more control over it now that I've come across your training. I would be more fulfilled if I were more outspoken about how I felt in the moment which could really improve how I deal with others and how I treat myself. Great video!

The swish pattern is very similar to the method acting technique of creating "mind's eye" visualizations. i.e. creating a person or animal (pet) or visual that create feelings that you can use in scene situations. I have used both in acting and in day to day life...

I quit smoking months ago with NLP but also self-hypnosis. Now I get nauseous when I smell sigarette smoking. I truely struggled for months and years to quit, falling back every time and not pushing through. Now I have a different approach and mindset to it. In fact, I found it difficult to breath and my lungs were suffering on my walks or Aqua Aerobics classes. Now that I don't crave nicotine anymore, I feel much better and my lungs and chest are open!! I did however, one time recently had the urge for a sigarette when I had lunch with an old smoking and drinking buddy, but when I reached for the sigarette offered to me, I said out loud "No, I am not going back there again. I am so over it. I quit for good and stick to goals for a long time now, and I am not going to break my promise to myself!" My friend and other people looked at me so surprised! Well, I am not touching sigarettes again! I dealt with other obstacles as well during this year with the help of NLP. I am not sure if I used the tools perfectly, but so far it works for me and I helped other as well. Thanks Damon, NLP is a wonderful way of living.
