Thank you Dr. Tobias I'm following this series on shoulder rehab very closely. I actually met my new physical therapist today. I'm Extremely excited to work with her along with supplementing my rehab program with exercises from your videos it's gonna be great getting so much input on putting together a new improved recovery program..... I'm feeling more optimistic than usual about my future.
In my experience, the key thing is to isolate the movements of the extremities when exercising, the thumb should be spread with the hand. The brain does not know how to do it on its own, and that is how the problems that you described nicely arise. Thank you for that, I’m looking forward to the new video. Have a nice day
Thank you again. You always amaze me! I am still having a little trouble raising my left arm/shoulder. Sometimes even when I raise my arm just to scratch my nose, I realize it feels heavy and/or lazy and know that I really need to work on this. I guess I have put this issue on the back burner working more on my gait and speech. So, thank you for this video. I plan on implement ING this with my daily regimen. Have a great week.
Hi Teresa! I am so glad you found this one helpful. I know that your time and effort is paying on as far as your walking and speech :) Glad to know you aren't forgetting about that shoulder 😉 Btw, a "heavy arm" is a pretty common sensation. As I say in the video, it is always best to start lying down to build your confidence! Have a great week!
Hi. I just found your channel yesterday and have watched a few videos already. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise! I plan to watch & learn as much as I can! I had a severe stroke less than 4 years ago, 2 weeks after my 49th birthday, caused a brain bleed from an AVM. Lost my right side & speech, but recovery has gone pretty well. I believe your channel will help me to continue making good progress. Thanks again!
Oh yes, Dr. Tobias. I know you're a busy lady and appreciate all you do. When you can, please think of the sensitivity issues or lack of that I hope you can give some information on in the near future. Thanks so much 😁
I would be happy to do this! Can you tell me more about what you are feeling and/or not feeling, area of the body and activities/conditions where you notice a change in sensation? That would help me a lot. :)
@@rehabhqofficial I’m not the original one to ask the question (Teresa Collins Porterfield was), However, I think I kind of understand her question; I am left side paralyzed from my stroke; and just very light touch on my left arm is actually painful. Its like what used to feel simple and light ,registering as pain in my brain. It’s been really crazy trying to make sense of that. Most light touches on my left side hurt;as if my brain doesn’t know what to do with the sense of touch.Do you feel any strange pain like that Teresa? God bless you both;Teresa and Tara! By the way; I am currently unable to move my left arm whatsoever.
@@rehabhqofficial Yes, thank you. It is only my right hand only. And really just the fingers. I can feel hot and cold. I have to be able to see something like a bottle top or a pen in order to pick it up. If my eyes were closed, I would not be able to grasp it because I would not feel it good enough in order to know how far to open my hand. As long as I can see it.. I can grab it. This is so hard to explain. With my left hand (good hand) I can tell with my eyes closed that it's a bottle top, brush, pen or anything. It sucks because I am right handed. I know I have to use it or loose it. Just Any ideas or if there are others that have this problem maybe you could do a video at your convenience. ThAnks again!
@@pratimamadeshiya6716 thanks for watching and for the comment. I linked a video on shoulder subluxation in the description to this video that might help
Thank you so much. My grand daughter suffered a closed tbi with damage to her right thalamus she is 18 mo I’m so glad I found you! PT abducted her left thumb but nothing else to the LUE. I noticed the spacicuty (didn’t know what it was ). So they had me working from the distal to proximal 😕. I’m super excited to isolate and start proximal
I have a question i had a shoulder luxation 2weeks a go i wear the sling everday and have physio 1 time how can fix my shoulder as fast as possible without surgery
If your are a stroke patient then surgery wont work for you ,and if you r not a stroke patient then get it corrected by local ortho , and if u suffer recurrent subluxation then your ortho will suggest you best solution
What if the patient has pretty significant spasticity in the elbow and cannot get it fully straight after prolonged stretching, PROM, AROM exercises. Can you have them lay on the table prone on elbows for weightbearing?
Basal ganglia stroke right side. Can pull back and push forward with arm. Can't raise the elbow above my head. Abduction not quite to gettimg elbow parallel to floor. No pain. Do TENS, elastics, acupuncture. Some subluxation. Considering sitting and learning left and trying "side pushup". Any suggestions will be tried. Will try more activation. Try to turn on and off lights, But, getting that last little movement makes my lower back muscles cramp up. Thank you 🛐
Yes Dr Mark! You are doing all the right things. Just keep going! As far as the low back pain, doing exercises lying down may help with that. And come back for next week's video where I will be giving more exercises!!
@@rehabhqofficial Thank you. I know the low back pain vibe on when I can't get my hand up any more due to shoulder limitation, and I twist and contort trying to get that side up my body higher, like someone bench pressing too much weight and arching their back instead of remaining flat against the bench. Thank you, I'm Subscribed❤️🤗
I admire u so much I had a stroke 18 years ago I was 25 I'm 43 now I'm beyond confused as well as hopeless I have done everything that can be done as far as therapy I've done conventional acupuncture myofacial reflexology I'm @ a place now where I'm pretty sure there's no hope 4bme I'm just sol just being honest I'm not looking 4 a pitty party @ all just felt like sharing
I get the cold issue I tried to walk to the mailbox in tempered temperature got on a slight incline caught a little chilly and became immobile, had to call someone outside to help me back in.
Hello, I am 56 years old. I had a stroke a year and ten months ago, which caused me to be paralyzed on the left side, and now my condition has improved. My question is when I walk, I cannot bend my knee, but when I am prone or sitting I can bend it, what is the reason and what are the exercises that help the knee To flex when walking, Sincerely.
I had a stroke in August and a lot my function has returned through therapy. My biggest area of concern is the lack of feeling on my left side. I have not seen much emphasis of this aspect. I do not know where my hand and arm are at when I can not see it. Any thoughts would help. Your presentations are very informative and well done!
Thank you Dr Tara. The muscles in my shoulder have gone away. Where did they go. There’s nothing but bone there now. Can I build new muscles or is it to late
I am a disabled person ma'am and I have a cerebral palsy, half of my body from my hip has a low muscle functioning, and I walked zigzag way, and I have difficulties to lift my feet or walk properly and I can't stand by myself without anything to hold. I hope u can help me what should I practice, or do at home since we have pandemic crisis that we faced, thanks in advance 😊☺️

Dr Tobias now i have a tennids elbow that causes a lot of pain, that"'s why i don't uses my arm less. The tennis elbow can stay for months said, the docter
I had a major stroke last year due to wrong treatment of doctor after my c section delivery. My right parietal lobe damage. Also because of wrong therapy I have a shoulder subluxation. Now I have wrist drop problem. I can make a fest little bit but I can't open my fest . I can't straight my arm. I think it is a flexor synergy pattern. How can I get rid of this problem.
Hard part for me, I don't have any movement in my left arm (flaccid). 2 years after stroke.and my left knee does not bend( heterotrophic ossification).
Hello I am a hemiplegic patient. My problem is my upper limb and lower limb tension increases in awkward situation like barber shaving my beard or some on comes to close to me or I am in awkward situation. What is this syndrome and how to manage it (sorry for same comment on multiple videos)
I noticed my shoulder look way different than my other shoulder last week LOL. Now I know what happened. 😬 oh what do you know there's a roll of paper towels in front of me and I'm sitting at a desk so it's time for arm exercises.
🌸🌸🌸 Dear Dr. Tara, thank you for starting this series. Foot and leg are getting so much more information and therefore recover much better and faster. Hand Arm Thumb are more tricky, as the they are harder to lengthen and keep in stretched position. I stretch many times a day, but especially the thumb is not easy to control and it triggers spastics on the hand. So looking forward to your tips tricks exercise for moving on!!! Summerly greetings from the other side of the pond 🌸🌸🌸💜💜💜
Thanks Dr Tara. I don't exactly know where I am in my progress. I hand in flexed in. I can hold on to something. That is, I can make a fist but I can't let go. My brain doesn't recognise that message that I must open my hand. What can I do?
man, you seem to have a TON of issues with my videos. For your own sanity, please unsubscribe. Of note, if one of my videos pops up in your "suggested videos" you can also click on the 3 dots in the corner and select "do not recommend this channel". I hope that helps!
@@rehabhqofficial for me where I'm at I believe the 2nd video will be most relevant to where I'm at almost 2 years post incident, but I take away something from all your videos and have introduced you to 7 or 8 different therapists now thank you again and God bless
Thanks Dr. Tara. I am doing all these methods for my 12 yr old son and getting a lot of positive results. The only thing I am not being able to get proper result is the supination of his hand. BTW his left hand and leg had stopped working completely after a subdural hematoma when he was 5 months old. I am following you since last couple of years and getting so much positive results and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for that.
Thank you for the video. My husband had a major stroke 6 months ago. He found that 2 months ago his shoulders started aching and no matter what he does it doesn’t seem to go away. He can’t even sleep due to the pain in his shoulders. Due to his blood pressure, he is not allowed to have muscle relaxants. Is there anything you can recommend?
This all makes sense and exactly what my neuro physio tells me. The arm and hand sure is very challenging and frustrating to work on. Keep going and never give up. Great video thanks. 😊🇦🇺
