About Misa's playing technique, I hope you'll get the chance to watch their Christmas acoustic show - she played it nearly completely fingerstyle. She actually can play every classic bass technique, and use the one that suits the song best.

It's definitely worth it to see the studio version of this. It's history kind of, at least for Maidiacs it is. It was their first video and it saved them (someone will fill in that blank shortly). For most of us, it was our first exposure to them because it went viral. For me, it was my first exposure to Japanese music six years ago, I am truly addicted now, but this band is my favourite. (Misa does indeed play both pick and slap in every song. She palms the pick)

@4:26 As for the mics Saiki, Miku, Kanami, and Misa nearly always have mics. Saiki and Miku use them constantly, Kanami will occasionally use it, and Misa barely if ever uses. *(Though Misa has cracked open a few beers in her mic)* Also as others have mentioned Band Maid did online Okyu-ji during the pandemic, and you could purchase tickets to watch them. They were great and I believe some of them are still accessible on their website, not 100% sure but there you go.

This song was their first original music video (not this live one), an OMV from 2014. The second song with an OMV was "Real existence", an I tell you what: That life performance (an original live video) is a banger, po 🙂 Go down the pigeon hole ... there is so much to discover. 😀

I love MISA's magic act with the pick. On some songs you can see her switch instantly from pick to slapping and vice versa. She also finger picks the strings. She has amazing dexterity in her hands. Some people have quipped that Akane has an electronic clock in her brain because she never misses a beat. She impressed Jimmy Page enough at a show that he asked to go backstage and meet her. There is a photo of that meeting. The song that The Warning and Band Maid did together is titled "Show Them" it will come out on the new Band-Maid album being released in September. An internet feed that I saw today shows their upcoming shows in Japan in November. There were video snippets of "Shambles", "Protect You", and a studio version of "Show Them" with The Warning on it. So we know an official music video of the song should be released soon. Can't wait for that one. I caught a bootleg video of their live performance of the song during their two man show in July in Japan. It was quickly taken down and RU-vid strikes were issued to those who showed it purposely or unwittingly.

This is one of their simpler, early songs but it sounds so darn heavy, and crunchy, live these days, since Miku has become a proficient rhythm player. Kudos on the “cheat code” reference, too! 😂. The best song, IMO, where Miku sings lead is “a Sayonakidori”. You need to see the official acoustic version on their page, and then a good live video of the full band electric version.

These were done during Covid, so they did online performances. Kanami sings on various songs and acoustics. Miku does vocals just on her own as well. This song was not written by Band Maid. Misa switches between picking and slapping during a lot of songs, she has this technique where she tucks the pick up and draws is back out effortlessly. The live video for No God has some really good close ups where you can see her doing it.

@@daaaaaaveSame with Akane. The "Bestie" MV had a lot of reactors wondering if they're also singing on the track, but I don't think they did. I love how it shows they're into what they're doing and the songs have meaning for them tho.
@mikeholmes5308
@mikeholmes5308 Месяц назад
I believe the mic is for a reason, and Kanami does sing on the gang vocals. on some songs. Clearly she CAN sing, as when she backs up Saiki on the acoustic versions of Puzzle and Anemone. Clearly Akane CAN sing when she backs up Miku on the acoustic Sayonakidori. And Misa also has a mic, and at least appears to sing on gang vocals in Freedom in the live video.

How long did it take to convince someone who was absolutely positive that the rock genre was practically dead of the complete opposite? The answer is very simple. The running time of the MV for this song... 4 minutes. 4 minutes that completely turned my (music) life around 180° from right to left, upside down, and after which nothing was ever the same again. It's been about 5 years for me now and nothing has changed! I owe a hell of a lot to these ladies here, because their music has accompanied me almost every day since then through EVERY thinkable phase of my life. I have always been someone for whom music has been one of the most important companions in life, but no band has ever achieved this to this extent before. Greetings from Germany. :) 🙏🏻🤘🏻 _____________________ 「 _"Our rock never dies ever. Forever!"_ 」 - from *BAND-MAID* - 'Manners' ♬🕊

The song that saved Band-Maid - live version! The MV for this was a video Band-Maid decided to make, against the wishes of their management. They were close to breaking up as a band and the video was their last chance make a splash, and it let loose a tidal wave for them! I am sure someone else will be able to give better details. I actually had never heard this live version! Thanks for the reaction!

This was a livestream during covid. They could not perform live so decided to surprise the fans with a livestream. They wanted to stop back then in 2016 i believe and released this song. This song was written for them. It got so much views that they decided to go on. Happily for us fans. Amazing band. Miku could not play guitar back then and learned to play by kanami. Thanks for this reaction.

@vanellopemint
@vanellopemint Месяц назад
In their early songs, Miku often sang the second verse, as I think they originally envisioned her as a second lead singer rather than just backup. But for a long time now they've written different lines for her to sing as backup, so she's not just singing along with Saiki all the time. They've gotten much more creative with her backup vocals over the years. And usually one song on every album is a song where Miku sings lead, and they tend to play one of these songs every concert, during a section where Saiki takes a break to rest her voice (often paired with Miku's Omajinai Time and sometimes with an instrumental song also). There was an unofficial live recording of the Band-Maid/Warning collaboration performance, but they issued content strikes to people who posted or reacted to it as they did not want it released yet. It will be on their cd that is going to be released in late September. Hopefully we might get an official video release before then? (Just guessing). There's also speculation that Band-Maid will perform with The Warning in Mexico at some point to return the favor, they haven't said anything officially but there's video from when they first met where they talk about doing shows in both Japan and Mexico. Band-Maid's first concert outside of Japan was in Mexico I believe, and they have a big following there. I have the concert video from this Covid-era concert without any audience. (You can buy it from their web site.) It's a bit eerie, with them ripping through banger after banger and there's no response at all, just silence between songs. ^_^

Kanami has a beautiful voice and sings backup on some acoustic songs. I've seen them 9 times, and she sings live a lot when she feels like it. Many times, she's nowhere near a microphone. Her voice is very soft and you can't ever really pick her out anyway during the heavier songs. She sings because she's into it, not because they rely on her vocals at all. Akane sings quite a bit as well live but doesn't even have a vocal microphone. She's just having a good time. You can tell they like their own songs, as well they should. I personally believe Kanami sings some backing vocals on studio versions of the songs Anemone and H-G-K. I am purely speculating though based on what I hear.

Ice Queen / Pigeon duets are Band-Maid’s hidden superpower which they don’t exploit nearly enough IMO. Kanami can totally sing, she just doesn’t like to do it in public. There are plenty of guitarists out there that swap pick for tapping, so it’s not unusual, Misa just manages to palm it instead of sticking it in her mouth, which is probably quicker. I saw the MV for Thrill when they released it and I wasn’t convinced they could play live, mostly because Miku wasn’t. I saw them live about a year or so later, because they were local and I was curious, I’ve been a total fan ever since. BABYMETAL and Electric Call Boy popped on Band-Maid / The Warning’s parade when they did their collaboration. That SUCKED.

Love the tone from that beautiful PRS of Kanami's in this one :) I've read that Misa often switches at lightning speed between picking and slapping. She does it by tucking the pick between two fingers while she slaps, and then bringing it back in when she wants to play with pick again.

The Warning met the Maids at Aftershock Festival 2023 (edit sorry 2022) - you can find a short clip of that on YT pretty easy. TW are less well known in Japan, so did one show with BM on their three show tour in Japan this year, and took the opportunity to record an MV for "Show Them" ... performed once on stage, and officially to be released on BMs album September 25 (if not before as a single).

In the very early days of the band, they were a twin vocal band with Kanami as backing vocals. I call this the layed back version of Thrill , you should do the offical MV of Thrill from 2014 , its more raw , plus it saved BAND-MAID from being dropped by there label , in Thrill MISA does not use a pick , these videos were done during covid , they did a couple of shows during covid streamed on the internet for the fans , cause they didn`t like not being able to preform live shows , they also did a Accustic Christmas show on 25th of Dec 2021 , 14 of there song rearranged for accustic versions , they all have mics at there stations , mainly for mc times , but during the accustic show I believe all of them did some backing vocals , MISA and Akane met while they were both attending the Tokyo school of music , they have a wave length for sure .

Use a pick on a bass, and the attack of the note has to be prefect. A lazy bassist will turn down the treble and use the fingers. That will give a ground to the rest of the band, but with no attack, the bass will not contribute to rhythm. A small miss in the rhythm can't even be noticed. Most bassist start to play with the fingers, and as they can't master a pick, they tend to look down on bassist that use one. Bassist who use a pick usually comes from playing the guitar first. Then they normally never understand how a bass line works and overplay it. A rock bass can add so much, if it is not drowned out in fussy low notes or messing up the riffs by overplaying. A bass with as much treble as when it has a sound like the lower strings in a piano, not only gives a foundation to the rest of the band, but the high frequency of the notes also work as a percussion adding to the drums. Most rock bassist don't get that. MISA not only understand when to use a pick or not. She also understands the percussion part of the bass and the foundation of what the bass must give to the rest of the band. On top of that, she elevates the song where there is a pocket and the bass can do a fill-in, like the drums normally does, or with the drums. She can move from supporting the guitars, to counter the singing or playing of the drums in a few bars. There might be better technical bass players than MISA, but IMHO, there are very few bassists that can improve a song that MISA has played first.
@Reactingtothespectrum
@Reactingtothespectrum Месяц назад
The bass is such an underrated part of a good band, and if you have someone who's proficient (MISA has that in spades!) then it really changes the overall sound, fell, and tightness with the band. I swear that MISA and AKANE were twins in another life! Beyond that, MISAs' level of playing and creativity is so extreme, that she can have these "conversations" with KANAMI and show not only her ability to enchance the rythm of a song, but to take control and gut punch you with blazing leads! This is a band that continues to shock me in the best way! PO!

Well, I certainly respect your right to an opinion, however, this is the first time I am seeing any of this, so if I pick the wrong specific rendition of a song in your view? Cool. There's probably better ways to convey that message. Whilst I will not go into a tirade as to why I mention my diagnosis and how it's actually freed my mind and changed my life, I will say that it's given me the courage to do things like this; all too well knowing there would be "people" (severe minority) who lack the understanding. If you don't know what RSD is, I suggest you have a bit of a nosey in any of the links in this description. We're wired VERY differently, and for many of us, this is a frightening thing to do. Best of luck to you.
