Normally, when you meet musicians of this level, you can expect a somewhat aloof, even haughty attitude. The reality is exactly the opposite: these young women are completely natural, unpretentious, friendly and cheerful. To have worked for them during their Belgian concert was an unforgettable moment and a wonderful encounter.

Miyako is classically trained on piano from a very young age, 3 I think. Took up guitar much later, I want to say 18. Yeah she makes it look effortless, and if you notice, no sheet music, played it from memory. Yes there is piano on backing track during the song, which was recorded by Miyako. She composed the music influenced by Chopin and Dvorak's New World Symphony. Asami wrote the lyrics. Btw, Miyako's favorite composer is Rachmaninoff. Yeah , you can say metal is modern classical. I've seen people say that adding distortion and amplification to classical music, you get metal. When you come back to LOVEBITES, suggest "Judgment Day" from the 2023 Knockin' At Heaven's Gate concerts.

More or less, yes. That's why there's the Neo-Classical genre; I think Versailles are one of the best bands at it, certainly my favorite. But yeah, take any number of Classical/Baroque pieces and just play them on distorted guitar and it's just Metal and you'd never know unless you knew the Classical piece. Galneryus' "Angel of Salvation" is Tchaikovsky's violin concerto by a metal band essentially, and there's Son of a Bach, who do hard rock/metal renditions of Bach pieces and there's little lost in the style switch. Also Dr. Viossy's original metal version of Beethoven's "Moonlight" Sonata, though most people tend to watch Tina S. play it, but she got it from Dr. Viossy.

Yngwie Malmsteen was one that said classical music is the basis for a lot of heavy metal. Paganini is his favorite. As he has said, play Paganini on a Strat plugged into a stack of Marshalls and you have Heavy Metal.

This ending is one of the most beautiful I've heard, especially when the bands steps out with Haruna's cymbal work and the piano goes solo. Haruna is also effing amazing here, especially doing those fills while playing to a backing track.
@rainerzufall42
@rainerzufall42 Месяц назад
Just on this reaction, I was thinking, how good Haruna's drums are on this one. You can easily be distracted by (of course) Miyako, who kills it, Asami's vocals, Midori's guitar work (not so much Miho in this one, maybe I oversee something), but Haruna gets really hard on her drum kit and lays the groundwork for this epic song (next to the "Classical" subtext). A masterpiece!

Haruna is the human version of the Energizer bunny- she keeps going, and going and going. I can almost imagine a second drum tech that is responsible for unplugging her in between tracks.

While all the ladies are top shelf in their disciplines (includes both Miho and Fami), Miyako is stratosphere level. Not a head in the clouds type about it though as she is a member of a stellar quintet. I enjoy Midori's shreds as most others do, but do prefer Miyako's style.

For your viewers who may be less familiar: Chopin (pronounced Show-pan) was a Polish-born Romantic-era (1800’s) classical composer and piano virtuoso who lived most of his life in France. He is considered one of the great classical composers, specializing in highly technical works for piano. "Etude" is French for "study". Chopin's Etudes were written as "studies", or lessons, for his students. They ended up being popular things for professional pianists to play as part of their concerts, in part to show off their skills. This is one of the more famous ones and is considered one of the most difficult ones. Miyako, who composes a lot of Lovebites’ music, is a professional-level concert pianist, and was originally going to make classical music her career. When she was 18, she picked up a guitar, and is now (quite obviously) an elite-level guitarist. She particularly likes the Romantic Era classical composers like Debussy, Dvořák and Chopin, as well as her stated favorite, Russian romantic composer Rachmaninoff. She composed “Swan Song” using elements of the New World Symphony (Dvořák) and Chopin’s Revolutionary Etude (official name Étude Opus 10, No. 12 in C minor). For this performance, she actually played the Etude as the intro, but it’s not normally included in their shows.
@rainerzufall42
@rainerzufall42 Месяц назад
Perfect decription as always! I just want to put some doubt on the last sentence. Please tell me, when did they do "Swan Song" in a show, but didn't do Miyako's "piano solo" (which is Chopin's Etude) immediately before "Swan Song"? 2020 (FOAK) - this performance, not an official video, but it makes sense to combine these two tracks! 2023 (KAHG2) - same sequence, only the piano solo was not included in the official video. Look at the live album, it's the track before. club shows/festivals - for this realm, I would imagine, that you're right, but "Swan Song" needs a live performance on a grand piano (keyboards won't be the same!), which is almost never available for logistic reasons. Next chance to do this: Tokyo Garden Theater (Sep 1st, 2024).

@ChuckJansenII Месяц назад
@@rainerzufall42 On the record Electric Pentagram Chopin's Etude was not included. I have the 2020 Five of a Kind Blu Ray and Chopin's intro was played before Sawn Song. The reason for the pause was so Miyako could be handed her guitar.
@rainerzufall42
@rainerzufall42 Месяц назад
@@ChuckJansenII Oh, I was talking about live performances. And for "Swan Song", you need a grand piano (for the outro). All I said was, that in these cases (and there were two of them, FOAK 2020 and KAHG2 2023), they've played Chopin's Etude, named as "Piano Solo" by Miyako, on the track before "Swan Song". Sadly, it wasn't released with the official live video on their RU-vid channel, it starts with the pure "Swan Song" track...

The first piece Miyako played was a representative Chopin piano piece, famous as a left-hand exercise for pianists because of the heavy load it places on the left hand. Miyako also performed "La Campanella," one of the most difficult piano pieces, at another live performance. ---------- from Nippon *This text was translated using Google Translate. I hope I was able to convey my intentions correctly.
@ChuckJansenII
@ChuckJansenII Месяц назад
Miyako has a video of her practicing Liszt's Camping Song. La Campanella is difficult as he had big hands. Thus his compositions require a big hand to play. Miyako has small hands and had trouble with it. Eventually she was able to get better because she worked very hard to compensate and overcome her hand size. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--q7trbbUC14.htmlsi=DX0KhqgD-UwW7d0e La Campanella was the basis for the song Lost in the Garden from Judgement Day. As per Encyclopedia Metallum there is a piano solo (untitled) before Lost in the Garden on track Lizst for the upcoming Memorial for the Warrior Soul live album and video. After is a . . . . DRUM SOLO! Yay.

Miyako has stated that she regards classical music and heavy metal as closely related genres. As proof of this she has transcribed and recorded a number of metal songs as though they are classical piano pieces. You can find them, 6 in total, on her YT channel 'miyako - TOPIC' . It would be accurate in my opinion to regard her as a classical pianist who happens to also play guitar with a heavy metal band. Regarding the band members overall, I got to briefly meet them during one of their recent gigs in London. My impression, not just from the meeting, but from having been interested and following the band for a while, is that whilst they are all insanely talented, they are also very modest lovely people. Off stage they seem to enjoy meeting up for social events such as birthdays or simply days out shopping and eating together. There seems to none of the ego that has afflicted so many great bands in the past, no need to 'Be Seen To Be The Best Member'. Since Fami joined the band in 2022, there seems to be a new surge of fun and enthusiasm amongst them all. I look forward with interest to see what the future will bring us from them.

Thank you for that - I've not listened to Lovebites before, but because it was you I thought I'd give them a go. Great stuff, and I'll definitely check out more! I agree about metal being a modern equivalent of classical music. I've previously said that I see metal as the new prog (and I mean metal in general, not just "prog metal"), because this is where most of the innovation and boundary-pushing is happening, along with the blending of influences from everywhere (although that last is a feature of current music more widely). Unfortunately the term "prog" has come to mean "something like the progressive rock bands of the 70s", when really it should be used to describe process rather than style (IMO). Just adding my thoughts to your observation. Ciao!

Some knowledge of history is required to understand the meaning of the lyrics of this song. In 1831, some officers and citizens rose up against the Polish government, which was under the de facto control of the Russian Empire, in what was known as the 'November Revolution', but failed due to the direct intervention of Russian troops. Chopin received this news during a performance tour. He never set foot on the soil of his homeland again. When the Russians invaded Warsaw, Chopin's representatives presented the Etude OP 10, No. 12 in Paris. Franz Liszt, a friend of Chopin, then named it the 'Revolutionary Etude'. Miyako composed Swan Song based on this 'Revolutionary Etude' and Dvorak's 'New World Symphony'. Asami (vocalist), a former ballerina, wrote the lyrics inspired by Norse mythology and the ballet suite "Swan Lake", based on the historical background of the "Revolutionary Etude". "SwanSong" is a requiem for the warriors who fought to reclaim their homeland, a masterpiece that only Love Bites could complete.

But you know the issues with this video, and why this version of 2020 is preferred. The mix is a little off, the piano solo, although played immediately before that, is not included in the video, the piano (and also the guitars) are not as epic in this. It's a good video, but if you know the 2020 "with Chopin intro" version, it's not what you want. I agree, that the performance itself is a little better (which is unbelievable), the piano ending is modified (I can see why, but as I'm used to this version, I like it better, same as the beginning of "Liar", where I miss the piano intro, but get a nice A Capella intro), so I guess, the live album on DVD et alii is really great. I still don't own that live album as video (only on 2CD), because I don't want VOD and can't get a physical version easily from Europe. That's sad!

Miyako also composed & arranged "Swan Song" and this track is a neoclassical metal masterpiece. Throughout the song, you can hear motifs from Romantic-era composers Chopin (intro, main riff, solo) and Dvořák (Chorus). I'm going to explain why some members of the wolf pack consider this group to be the best of all time. If you consider today's metal, which in my personal opinion is musically poor, identified mainly by rhythm, growling vocals and the absence of solos, then you can love this kind of music, but compared to old-school metal, it's night and day. What has made the reputation and history of this music is not the bands of today but those of the 80s and 90s, legendary bands like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Judas Priest and many others who took heavy metal to an exceptional musical level. Having listened to Lovebites' entire discography, I can safely conclude that they have taken this music to a higher level than the legendary bands of the past. Not only is their songwriting and musical beauty a cut above the rest, but so is their talent as musicians. And if I say that, it's no offence to the talent and quality of the bands of the 80s and 90s, but objectively it's a reality. It's great to have a band that has resurrected the metal of the past. It's certain that if the bands of the past hadn't existed Lovebites wouldn't have been able to be at this level of quality. Because they have taken the best of what has been done in the past and made it even better. That's the miracle. So in conclusion if you are better than the legends then the claim that they are the best metal band of all time is justified.

The piano backing track ist not the "Chopin thing", i.e. Etude op 10 No. 12 (the Revolutionary), but some arpeggiated chords, like the first part of the piano outro.

Yes, there's a piano backing track used during the middle of the song because, obviously, a musician can't play the guitar and piano at the same time, right? WRONG! Watch "Burden of Time". Try this live version from 2018 - everybody else uses the more recent "studio live" version. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JnNtYpGZKKY.html

MIYAKO plays Classic (Baroque) music. They are original band not a copy. 🥰😍🤩

Most times I don't care for the vocals of the lead singer but this one she does okay. Musicians always good.

This fascinating and complex kind of music may regrettably remain a kind of "niche product" - far away, for instance, from the emotional public resonance of Taylor Swift's arena-filling performances (far away from her money generating entertainment industry) . . . .

You're doing Great picking Lovebites songs. I'd rather see someone use Lovebites as an anchor and explore new bands as well. Lovebites is my Favorite band, but I listen to a Lot of bands now that I'm retired. Here's a couple more J-Bands for your list: *Unlucky Morpheus* _Dignity of Spirit_ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x7W9DcUKY_U.html ( melodious speed Metal) *Gacharic Spin* _Mindset_ (Funk-Rock) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QmL0V667QzI.html Lots more to come, but I'm not gonna send you a super long list now. You asked about Jazz! Tricky question. Did you mean something like hybrid fusion jazz, or did you mean Serious Jazz? The latter could be challenging for lots of RU-vid listeners (not Moi). p.s. I'm a Huge jazz fan :0)

You like "nightwish" (small letters) or LOVEBITES. No one can like both bands. LOVEBITES is great, "nightwish" is almost nothing worth it. Except maybe at beginning of nw.

When she opens her mouth and starts singing, you just want to close that mouth. It's not nice to listen to.

How sad that you don't like it. Unfortunate, but that's alright.
