Our Neurologic Music Therapist's session description: " We're focusing on pre-gait techniques that employ the power of entrainment. Through entrainment, Shawn synchronizes his movements with an external rhythm I provide, using either a drum or my singing voice. This process helps him establish a rhythmic connection between his movements and the music.
To augment his therapy, I've incorporated a technique called Therapeutical Instrumental Music Performance (TIMP), which combines rhythm and movement. After discussing Shawn's needs with Terri, Success Rehabilitation Physical Therapist - she recommended several exercises to enhance his strength and re-establish the connection between his legs and brain.
During these exercises, I use a hand drum and small jingle bells to prompt Shawn's leg movements in response to the music-these exercises target strength building. As Shawn's therapy progresses, I'll adapt these exercises as necessary. So far, I'm pleased to report that he has been highly cooperative and motivated to participate in his sessions."
