At 10:00 in the video, I mention that improving by 1 standard deviation would equate to improving from 50th percentile to 68th percentile. This is incorrect. It would actually equate to improving to the 84th percentile.
After that you mentioned that a 0.1 standard deviation would result in going from 50th percentile to 54th percentile, is that also incorrect? If so, what's the correct percentile?
@@cungwongkim8198 No. A z score of 0.1 does convert to the 54th percentile. Here is a z score to percentile calculator: measuringu.com/calculators/pcalcz/ (click "onesided")
@@jonathansoko1085 The way to be sure is through multiple peer reviewed studies. Because there are far more important things to research than Alpha Brain you will need to rely on educated readings of the limited research that is available. See video above.
@@kgeo753 why don't we require the supplement companies to fund an independent research company to run these studies before they can sell it to us. Why do all natural supplements get a pass. These companies are making millions. I use alpha brain. I have ADD. It helps marginally with focus but not on memories yet. I take it in the morning with food and a 16 Oz glass of water.
Excellent video doc, thank you for doing this and putting so much effort into it like citing your sources and making sure your information is correct. I know you probably aren't getting paid much for this but please know the work you're doing is helping people tremendously.
@@DrBrandonBeaberHey Doc, you should monetize your channel. A worker is worthy of his wage. God bless. Side note maybe you needed a 30 day trial as some drugs take longer to show results. I cant remember the term but lithium takes a few weeks to level out and each person may have different needs. Too bad we cant mess with doses of individual ingredients to find the peaks we each need. Thx for the great work
I started taking it 2 days ago at 2 pm. I have no problem with sleep. Getting tired when I use caffeine. But I definitely have no brain fog. If you wonder how joe Rogan smokes 5 blunts and is still a Viking. Alpha brain. Can’t explain it. It’s what it does to me. But I’m a Viking. With lots of energy focus and ready to do things.
I have been taking hydroxyzine, and I noticed that I was having difficulty with my verbal recall. I would frequently have to pause in my sentences to find the correct words. I quit taking the hydroxyzine and am now taking alpha brain. One of the tests where it found significance was directly on verbal recall (specifically what I’m looking for), and I’ve heard from multiple individuals that was the most notable effect was their ability to recall words and form sentences quicker. It seems you have no difficulty in that area. I’ll let you know the results in 30 days.
@@kondekinoe9337 YES. Absolutely. I have noticed a significant improvement in my verbal recall. I have been taking it every day. I will continue to take it every day. Definitely efficacious.
@@dnpixels I think you should not take alpha brain when smoking. There is no point. Those pills are made for people who want to be productive and work throughout the day.
Wow you have a wonderful way of conveying statistical data. Makes it really understandable with even the smallest amount of statically knowledge background. Please keep up the good work.
I just tried a powder packet in my drink today and i will say i didnt need coffee till a bit later, and only because i felt the headache from not having the coffee not because i was tired. I was never diagnosed professionally with ADD but i have always known i have an extremely hard time focusing. I noticed it helped me at work just be a more alert and peppy before i even had coffee. Thank you for the review! You now have a new subscriber!!!
Ok so I took AB just because I had heard about it helping cognitive function because I was losing mine to what I think was from depression meds. My brain has been in a fog for long time due to depression. I took 4 caps the first day and started feeling the fog lift then went to 2 a day like instructed and my energy levels had increased significantly and no more brain fog! I'd like to see a study on if this was a fluke for me or if it actually helps deal with the fogginess caused from depression because it pulled me back into having a life and focus!
I would love it if you could interpret more studies around nootropics. There are a small handful of them that work, but the majority I think have similar results as alpha brain. There are so many people in my life, and I’m sure many others, who spend a lot of money to get “duped” by these companies. It’s awesome that you’re able to clearly explain to even a lay person what the studies around these actually mean. Great informative video thanks!
Hey Doc! My goal for taking AB was to see if I could combat some of the post Covid brain-fog I've been having - specifically forgetting words or not being able to consistently call up the right word in conversations. So far, after about 2 weeks it seems to be helping very marginally and I have some confounding factors like starting an exercise regime, limiting screen time, and being more deliberate about my sleep schedule. I'm planning on doing this for another 4 weeks to see how it goes.
For real. This could be very helpful for a lot of folks! I think we all want to feel better but also don't want to waste our money 💰. Reply asap sir lol have a good day,😎💥😶🌫️
I have had enormously, night and day positive results with alpha brain. This said, I get great effects with just choline and phosphatidylserine too. I have a history of seizures and have taken some hard hits on concrete and asphalt because of this. My brain is not the same as when I was young before the seizures started. Taking supplements that contain some of these ingredients helps me noticeably improve this function and helps me feel more like I did before the damage from the seizures.
I suffer from depression and part of that causes procrastination. on my 3rd day of Alpha Brain supplements almost all my symptoms have disappeared. I hope you look into this as I haven't felt this normal in 3 years.
I did actually notice a massive difference, and I wasn't looking for it. I actually forgot I took it and while streaming was like, "wow I am way more engaged". I then recalled I tried out alpha brain and was on day 2. I also have some attention issues, though, and if it weren't for the fact ADHD meds crack me out, I would take them. 10mg of Strattera put me into hypomania and 18mg put me into full mania. I take Oxcarbazepine for cyclothymia and it works well. I also take Theraputic Ketamine once every three days at 500mg sublingual RDT. Other than caffeine, I don't do drugs or alcohol. It was a random purchase to try Alpha Brain. It absolutely did *something*. It felt like a mood elevator, if that makes sense? Everything became a bit more... interesting. That's all it did, though. I wouldn't say it made me "smarter", just more "engaged".
I found this video because I took one alpha brain two days ago out of desperation to come out of this depression of been in. I wanted to see if it was just me or if anyone else had experienced what I did. First, when I took it I didn’t eat anything which was a big mistake because soon after that I came down with a horrible stomach ache and G.I. problems and then I guess within an hour of that I started feeling like my blood sugar dropped significantly like I wanted to fall on the floor. Once I got through that issue, I actually felt my depression lift immediately, and many things I’ve been hesitant to do, I did without issue. I wanted to buy this product to improve my life even for just a month or two and get me out of the hole but it’s so freaking expensive.
It’s $35 a bottle/month. Is $35 a month not worth it? You are worth it so stop making excuses and just do it for yourself because if it does work for you then you should make it a priority. You matter but it sounds like you don’t really believe that.
@@NintCondition I have to say, this was a pretty fucked up way to talk to someone that expressed they were dealing with an episode of depression. Thankfully, I didn’t need to continue on a regimen because I resolved a situation that was present in my life, dialed in my diet and was able to move on. Don’t talk to people like this. You have no idea what they are going through.
I’m glad you found relief and are doing well. ✨✨ I did also find my fog and clarity change with eliminating sugar. Anyway, I’m not sure where everyone is getting their low-cost Onnit Alpha Brain, but mine was $70, so I definitely feel you on the cost.
When I first took it, I playing a gig as a musician, and noticed my normal gig fatigue went away, after we had been playing for hours. The second time I took it was last night, and here’s the dream I had: I rediscovered a monastery that was in Lake Anna and I walked up to the building and the door was open to their library and I talked to some people who were there, asking if there was a resident monk there, they said yes, and I eventually passed him in the hall, he seemed familiar. I saw myself carrying around a thin long black staff. I went through different corridors of the monastery and at one point people were lined up to use a bathroom, which the sink in the bathroom made it so you had to squeeze between the door and the sink or duck under the sink to get in, a woman was waiting to use the bathroom and I told her there was a ladies room down the hall. The assembly room was filling with people, waiting to hear the monks discourse, I continue through the halls and run into a nice girl, who was hungry and wanted to know if the monastery had any food to eat, I offered to take her to eat across the street. There was a sadness in her, like someone she knew passed away. We went and got some food. Looked like fireworks were going off in the distance.
First off, thank you for making this video. It's refreshing to get an honest standing on this product that I was about to buy, but no longer am due to your excellent analysis of the product. I appreciate your dedication to the subject and experimentation. I am trying to improve my daily routine and performance at work, so I thought this product would help, but it appears that a daily multivitamin is probably around the same caliber of usefulness
Great explanation Dr. Thanks for sharing. Will check out your other stuff to see, but wondering if you have any references on stuff where studies on other products are more definitive and supportive on efficacy particularly around memory and/or focus. Thanks!
LOVE the video and appreciate the honesty! I subscribed because I learned new information, and feel your channel will keep teaching me. Keep up the great work!
@@DrBrandonBeaberI’m recovering from a Hypoxic brain injury, got hit in the shoulder with a baseball bat and now can’t remember shit from sleeping on injury and shallow breathing. Anyway I’m looking for any supplements as I’ve been recommended nothing by my Quack’s but have just started Creatine on my own research. Been about 4/five years now. Oh, september 2017 it was. Was thinking about alpha brain too.
Thanks for the video! I like how you are able to communicate your thoughts to us. Direct, to the point and not overly complicated. You speak clearly with out all the intellectual Uhhhhh, rrrrrrr and odd - out of place pauses. I'm going to watch more of your videos!! Thanks!!
Thanks, though my channel is about multiple sclerosis. This was a one-off video. By the way, it's easy to sound smart when you film short clips and piece them together :)
So I've been trying it for a week after my previous weeks of smoking weed, drinking & maybe two psilocybn trips lol. After a week of copious amounts of substances. I had a big crash, very depressed & anxious probably due not having a big serotonin, gaba, & dopamine boost I was getting from drugs. So I've been using it in hopes of " naturally" boosting/ getting back to baseline levels, while I take a two week break from those substances. So far I've noticed I haven't woken up really sad, I'm able to go about the day and not become anxious and I'm able to get to sleep better without dwelling in negative thoughts. Could be a placebo or maybe it's helping because of my previous week of mistreating my body for some fun times. Either way while it's not a miracle product or product I recommend if you suffer from health issues. I believe it helps if you are indeed feeling very imbalanced from a hormonal & chemical view point Also liked & subscribed, I enjoy this from a DR's point of view. You already have insight in this area which makes you a lot more credible! Thank you!!
dude if your noticing these effects its time to think real hard and read some GOOD drugforums like bluelight about the dark side. i wish i could go back in time to undo the changes imm no longer the happy social outgoing person i was. and weed is also neurotoxic can make you go psychotic or create social anxiety but you probably drink that away. wishing you good mental health
The only thing I can definitively say Alpha brain improved in my cognition is just remembering a string of letters or numbers in short term memory. Things like phone numbers and mailing addresses. or even like getting a confirmation code on your cellphone and just remembering those 6 digits real quick to type in instead of copy/paste. Alpha brain makes it effortless to just remember the combination and type it back in. Not sure how useful that would be to most people but I took that as evidence as it was improving something in my memory processing and so there may be other things that are too subtle for me to notice. Certainly not worth the price but definitely worth it to have in a stash for quick projects or anytime you need to crunch something.
The goings-on in your unconscious mind are fascinating! One dream clearly an allegory of neurology, the other of Twitter I think. Our experts are unable to provide a definitive reading on the third. Thank you for sharing!
I truly appreciate the depth you go with this including telling us about your dreams! Super interesting, but as it has been with all other "limitless" pills, it sound like it's too good to be true.
the fact that it works is actually worrying because it implies that it's having a great effect on your body, which means side-effects and withdrawal symptoms that need to be studied
so i had got the small container of alpha brain to try out and thought i really liked them. I went back to the store and looked at the price and was thinking to myself “Maybe it was placebo” tried them one more time and i can definitely notice a difference. i don’t have any of that brain fog and i feel sharp. Just bought me the big container, this shit works.
I also experienced vivid dreams but on a different brand of nootropic. There’s only three ingredients on it. I’m curious about Alpha Brain and I do want to try it, that’s how I ended up in your channel Doc. Thank you for the informations.
Dr Brandon, you said it's unusual for the placebo to get worse, but it's really simple. The second test was harder. So if both got worse, but Alpha brain was only -0.01 and placebo was -0.28, then Alpha brain actually did better. They can fix their methodology by increasing the number of people and using a randomized bank of questions, so that way they can use the first test to rate the difficulty of questions, and ensure that participants are given equally difficult questions at the end. However, I think we should also be sensitive to the fact that cognitive health shouldn't improve overnight. For example, in one recent anti-aging study they didn't start getting statistically significant results until month 6 and then the effects accelerated after 9 months. So I'd be interested to see how z = 0.1 changes at two months, three months, and so forth. The marksmanship study you brought up was only over 30 days, so I'd be surprised if something as systemic as aiming could show a significant improvement over that time. You probably need to combine supplementation with active training for a longer period of time to see some enhancement in cognition for the task.
I do web design, and I most often bs taking to much time finishing easy task, but honestly, day 3, I sat down. And worked non-stop. I was locked in. I never do that. the only difference is the damn Alpha Brain. It could be a placebo but this shit helped me get some work done. So I'm hooked.
DrBeaber thank you for your review, I imagine you are not a candidate for alpha brain, you are exceptionally sharp and knowledgeable, don’t know how how old you are. I. Am 55 , got Covid last year never got rid of the brain fog , I’m an RN and use to pride my self for my memory. I am attempting an icu residency this month and nothing sticks, I am not a candidate for adhd medication d/t cad , but I’m going to give alpha brain a shot and see how it goes. Caffeine only works so long . Thank you
@@davetindell4110 The point I am making in this video is that the results could easily occur with a completely ineffective treatment. When there is not a single pre-determined primary outcome, it is very easy to do numerous analyses and cherry pick the most favorable ones.
I would love to see you do a video on Alpha Lipoic Acid combined with Acetyl L-Carintine. The combo is currently in phase 3 clinical trial. There research suggesting that could be a new possible treatment for MS. I started taking the supplements and a lot of my daily MS symptoms completely disappeared after 2 months on the supplements.
i have a pre workout i use for tiredness and excessive daytine sleeping it has alcar hcl i and n acetyltyrosine i like the mental clarity and motivated feeling it has 175 mg caffeine wich is not alot for me. its gold standard pre workout

This was so interesting for me to watch! Really incredible thank you for sharing this! It seems like this is safe enough to take to see if you have any positive results the chess study you did though was interesting I wonder why that was?
Certainly the chess story wasn't scientifically valid. I just thought it would be interesting to share. I think people underestimate the tremendous effect of placebo and random fluctuation.
I've noticed a difference between being more focused on my school work with Alfa Brain with no cognitive improvement. It does make my stomach gurgle really loud. .
Liked and subscribed this, I had a coworker yesterday who was going on about Alphabrain and the natural skeptic in me said that it sounded like bull sh*t. Ended up finding my way to your channel and felt good to have a dose of actual science..good luck with getting that blitz rating up ;)

I've taken Alpha Brain on and off for almost 2 years. In the daily moments of life, while on alpha brain, I don't necessarily notice a big difference. It's when I go on breaks off alpha brain, sometimes for a week(s) or a month(s), this is when I notice a difference. Things that would have been easier for me, while on alpha brain, tend to be just a little more difficult. And it's enough of a noticeable difference that I realize that whatever it is I'm having to spend more time on, I wouldn't of had to, had I been on alpha brain. Not sure if that will make sense to anyone else. It's just what I've notice. I've taken ADHD medicine in the past and have never been a fan. The medicine has always been too intense for me and i know very obviously that I'm under the influence of something. Alpha brain seems to work in the background and not really allow one to realize they're potentially under the influence of a substance.
I've tried Alpha Brain and an Aniracetam/CDP Choline stack. Both were good for being social and overall mood but neither seemed to improve my cognition much other than the slight focus that comes from an uncluttered mind. I only had vivid dreams once or twice unfortunately.
“The desire to take medicine is perhaps the greatest feature which distinguishes man from animals.” That was the opinion of Sir William Osler, graduate of McGill University, professor of medicine at McGill, one of the founders of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and a man often called the Father of Modern Medicine.
Would love to see an analysis of the main component Alpha GPC. It's so often cited by guys like Huberman, however, I cannot find any cited papers aside from the one focused on Alzheimer's patients with a dose of 1200mg per day. Just very interesting it's difficult to find yet so many youtube experts are touting it.
Thanks Doc for the information. I currently have brain fog from chemotherapy and nothing seems to work. If you have additional information that you could share with me, I would greatly appreciate it.
Letting your brain chill out is better than looking for pills at this point. Give it a couple more months and if it is still “foggy” then ask your doctor.
I'd love to know your thoughts on specific ingredients in this concoction. I was looking into taking both huperzine A and alpha GPC choline. And seeing as you're a MS doctor and alpha GPC is recommended for helping MS patients, I'd love to hear your thoughts on that as well. I don't have MS just memory issues from concussions and focus issues.
I think a lot of people not seeing results cause they are already healthy as can be. But people with deficiencies like alcohol abuse or suppression type drugs on the brain like norcotics can see a increase in brain activity then. To help restore those chemicals that were shut down from not living a healthy lifestyle in the first place
I feel that taking 1 tablet a day is the recommendation, instead of the 2, because people reported side effects when they take the 2nd tablet in the evenings with the vivid dreams and other issues. People keep taking it on an empty stomach when they should take it after eating. I guess everyone has a different reaction
I just bought this. I hope if nothing else it can shift any ‘brain fog’ and give me some mental clarity. I have ADHD but it is more attention than hyperactivity although that is still very present. I hope i can notice some effects if nothing else
To my understanding these tests tested cognitive function on alpha brain, they advertise it increases your brains ability to enter into the flow state as well. Would these tests show that claim is also bs?
Doctor Beaber I enjoyed this review chock full of specific graphic info. Can you do one on GNC Androstenedione supplement that after baseball’s controversy of 2005 were re-classified as Controlled.
I bought some alpha Brain from the GNC I had no results I wanted it to work but I think I started to forget some stuff if it works I have no idea how long it takes to work I have no idea if a person has to be susceptible to such things or super sensitive or what but it didn't work for me I didn't feel anything from the alpha Brain supplements it is possible that I just have a difficult brain because I can't even be hypnotized I've tried many of these RU-vid videos hypnosis subliminals and since before RU-vid I've been trying since elementary school in the 70's well let me watch this video and see what's supposed to make alpha Brain work
Thank you for your very detailed analysis. Really nice to hear from someone without an agenda. Have you considered giving Qualia Mind a try? I have been considering giving it a try, but having a professional like yourself evaluate it too would be fascinating and would, no doubt, attract a lot of views.
I gave qualia focus a try. Been using it for past 2 weeks and I feel more locked in whenever I am at work. I get a little bit more energy but it is noticeable. It is not a super drug but it will help.
I have been curious about nootropics. Thanks! 🙂 I wonder if it would help me dream lol. I feel like I hardly dream anymore or I probably just don't remember.
Ok. So what would you recommend for people who feel like they're "in a fog", are having trouble focusing, and having trouble with dedication? Personally in the last couple years I feel like I've just lost a lot of focus, and attention span. I feel like a shell of my former self
