The Neuschwanstein Castle is one of the most popular places to visit in Germany.
The castle was built in the second half of the 19th century by the "mad" King Ludwig II of Bavaria, huge fan of architecture and Richard Wagner's music. It is one of several castles of Ludwig II, that are today major attractions for visitors in Bavaria.
The castle is considered to have been the inspiration for the Disney castles in Disneyland and the movie Cinderella.

I only watched it far away in my honeymoon in 1980 by joining Cosmos. I am going to visit Germany and join river cruise next year. Have to study history a bit before visit😂

I just think of the builders-- no modern day equipment ! No cranes, no electric tools, had to be a complete struggle, but with fantastic results !!! You rode your horse to work, man that is a serious undertaking !

Actually it's one of the most beautiful castles in the world if not the most. It was the sole inspiration for Cinderellas castle at Walt Disney World and the epitome of what a castle looks like. 👍

I visited this castle last year, it looks as amazing live as in the pictures, a bit smaller than I expected but still quiet spectacular! I've been visiting a lot of German castles since I moved to Germany 5 years ago, many of them are in ruins, but others are amazing! I recently created a video of the most beautiful ones I've seen so far in case you are interested in taking a look! There are so many amazing castles in Germany that I didn't even knew before :)

Beautiful video! Neuschwanstein is a favorite of mine dating from childhood. As beautiful inside as it is outside. The town is Hohenschwangau, also the name of the smaller, mustard colored castle opposite, also shown. Hohenschwangau was King Ludwig's childhood home and is well worth a tour as long as you are in the area. It houses, among other things, dozens of fabulous paintings on the walls depicting the history of the area and scenes from Wagner operas of medieval tales of heroes.

I visited in January of 1992 COLD COLD COLD but oh so BEAUTIFUL! I walked around the front with my friend Tim, I don't know how we made it - ice everywhere - saw the water pool below. Loved the secret room with the stalagmites and pictures of Wagner's opera ! Thanks for posting, brings back awesome memories.

I’ve been blessed to visit the area, and Neuschwanstein twice. It is awe inspiring! I’ve seen people say they were “disappointed” by their visit. I say, if you visit and you aren’t moved by the beauty of the area, and the overwhelming architecture of the castle, there is something very wrong with you!

Wonderful comment all round, and certainly well deserved ! I was looking for the beautiful pictures of this castle in high winter, with much of the surroundings covered in snow ! ( had one of them as a desktop, till the Love of my Life asked for a change of view.) Maybe, perhaps, a follow-up taken in Winter ?

I've been there 3 times and I plan to come even more, too bad it's almost always under repairs, amazing place. Fussen is right next to it, make sure to pay a visit to the castle there as well. May I also recommand Konigssee, also in Bavaria Germany, about 2.5 hours drive from there

I wonder who the knight is, perched atop the high gabled roof? Perhaps Ludwig II himself? Neuschwanstein is beyond breathtaking and awe-inspiring. Not enough hyperbole to adequately describe it!

King Ludwig only lived in this Castle for 2 weeks before he was found floating in the nearby lake. The smaller, sand colored castle was his father's and the one he grew up in.
