The Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology conducts cutting edge, societally relevant science that fosters economic development and public safety and involves training of the next generation of geoscientists. Major projects include earthquake hazard studies in the nation's third most seismically active state, mineral and geothermal resource assessments, and regional tectonic studies of Nevada's rapidly evolving landscape. You said that about 20% of the state of Nevada has had the geology mapped. Are you looking for geologists to help with remaining 80%? Long term career opportunity?

Wouldn’t a seismic array help map the subsurface using tomography, also shows where the feeder faults might be. Getting all the old private oil company drill logs would be helpful too. I saw they did that for one section of Nevada in a paper but that data for the whole State would be really useful. The data is mostly there it’s that nobody takes the time or spends the money to compile it in a way that’s actually useful to mineral exploration. The Australians and Canadians are leaving us in the dust as far as government geological institutions helping develop minerals. The fact I’m subscribed to almost exclusively Australian and Canadian geological society and other similar channels and there aren’t many good American ones strikes me as we are falling behind in modern exploration and techniques. That and the numbers speak for themselves, nobody is really spending money on exploration here other than a couple of majors and you can’t just pick up where you left off after taking 40 years off.

Sad more people aren't interested in geology

I lived and breathed it for my entire career.
