In this adventure I am lucky enough to be at opening day of Rainbow ridge opal mine. The rain had kept them closed for the first part of the season and also washed off some pretty opals for me to find!

Rainbow 🌈 Ridge Opal Mine Adventure is another great place to check out opals. The amount of time and money you spent there was beneficial for all the colors of opals you found. Virgin Valley opals were very amazing in color. Looking at your haul you made quite a nice place to get some good rocks. I like how you care for the environment ethically sourced opals. You are really making a difference out there in these mine sites. Keep on exploring the world around you James, Zoey, and Luna!! Thank you for sharing your adventures with me and can't wait for the rocks you send in the mail.

And just to let you know opal create just because you let you either have it so if your buddies got a log as long his arm but it ain't already showing fire it ain't going to I don't know who told you that but that is not fact and I've been doing the opal for over 13 years so I know.

Some people will make up anything for a dollar. I felt like I was in a world of rumor the way everyone says something different.

And as far as the gypsum be careful because when it gets frayed an airborne it can get in your lungs and cause serious lung problems.

Jeeze I wish they had told me that. I’m not really doing anything with the gypsum.

You're right about it being and it's more of like a hundred dollars a ct. Bro but not as is you would need to cut it and it has to have a and I would suggest putting it in a tupperware bowl with hot water and let it soak it's to dry after a few days of soaking you'll be able to see what type of 🔥 you got but it just ain't worth a lot of money because of where you got it from just cuz it's opal doesn't mean that it's gem opal and potch opal ain't worth shit . Just FYI if you have any questions I don't mind helping if good luck 🤞.

How do I stabilize the opal that is still in wood? I started cutting some wood and found the opal in it but I can’t get the cab to polish.

Oh and just to let all opal is dangerous you could get silicosis. Just saying.

That would also be good to know lol. Spent the day polishing opals on the cab machine today.

not a fan of opals that have to be in water all their existence. Still, its nice material and would be a fun day. Anyway, kids have to make a living too.

I most of my time harvesting the ones that were dry already. Got lucky finding a couple water opals in other people scoops when they left.

@loveinstonecreations that's a lot of dirt to sift through. You'd need four or five people, but maybe they got the money's worth quickly?

The scoops can be done with two hard workers but you are allowed as many as 3 people. The tailings are great for anyone

I would love to know what it cost you to walk around? Was it $900 you said for that? Thanks 👍
@loveinstonecreations

For walking around, I forget if it’s 75 or 100 per day. For a scoop of fresh tailings from their giant machine $900. My buddies did a scoop and scored. Nothing is guaranteed at these places tho.

Oh in the video I said 100.

Thanks 👍 I pulled up the website and saw some of the videos on their place. I'm so in love with looking for rocks. Unique stones have always been a magnet for me. My bucket list item is searching for opal. I'm so fascinated with opal. I have my second brain tumor now and Australia is not an option. I dig petrified wood and fossils out of the ground here and I feel like I have won the lottery. Thanks for the info and the great video. 🥰

Not like the Nevada precious opal woods. edit. Oh no. That one is only the biggest chunk of opal they got after a bulldozer hit it and rolled the rest down the hill. They sold that mine and kept the one the Roebling came out of and all testimony was it was not one of the biggest and best from the early days. There are the ironstone boulder opal logs, but all the ones I saw only had the same 3/4 inch thick or so pay layers with veins in matrix not solid opals. I have a 7oz black in my safe deposit box Ive never seen any comparable uncut from down under. Yeah it is a fossil cast of a stem.

Australia has more opal hands down. It is very rare out here. The quality can be very good tho out here.

@loveinstonecreations I've seen several different RU-vidrs do video on this place. I'm just saying there wasn't anything special to me on your video or the other ones. Not worth me going there and pay to dig for what? Petrified wood. I can find that here. Clear rocks with color are everywhere. By the way, I walk creeks, no digging in the creeks. I don't dig.

Opal mining is a big gamble. Many people often find very little opal. That’s why the price is so high. My buddies got a scoop and pulled out things that would pay for their scoop. The thing is, the price of this opal is so high that if you find some, it’s worth it. They also pulled a log, if it’s opalized it could be a 30k log. The scoops are where the really good stuff is. It’s a gamble and that’s what makes it an adventure.

Seriously lol. Opal mining is so hit or miss. Some people didn’t find anything near what I found. Others find things worth thousands or even tens of thousands. I’m glad I went to rainbow ridge or I wouldn’t have had much at all.
