I’ve seen the lightning flashing, And heard the thunder roll; I’ve felt sin’s breakers dashing, Trying to conquer my soul; I’ve heard the voice of Jesus, Telling me still to fight on; He promised never to leave me, Never to leave me alone. No, never alone, No, never alone, He promised never to leave me, Never to leave me alone; No, never alone, No, never alone, He promised never to leave me, Never to leave me alone. 2 The world’s fierce winds are blowing, Temptations are sharp and keen; I feel a peace in knowing My Savior stands between; He stands to shield me from danger, When earthly friends are gone, He promised never to leave me, Never to leave me alone. 3 When in affliction’s valley, I’m treading the road of care, My Savior helps me to carry My cross when heavy to bear; My feet entangled with briars, Ready to cast me down; My Savior whispered His promise, Never to leave me alone. 4 He died for me on the mountain, For me they pierced His side, For me He opened that fountain, The crimson, cleansing tide; For me He waiteth in glory, Seated upon His throne; He promised never to leave me, Never to leave me alone.
After viewing the original and several covers of this song, I believe this is one of the best performances bar none. The song was well rehearsed and practiced, but had a lively spirit about it that's almost contagious. I especially enjoyed the light play at the beginning of the video, it revealed to us that the performers here were real and lively and not putting on a stuffy performance. Never Alone is a song of faith and hope. Pianist Kelly Truax and her singers really brought this home.
I would love to direct this song with my talent show participants and students this year as this is my retirement year. I'm the Drama teacher at my school. What a great Finale song. Pray for me that it happens. Our students need this after the 2 covid crazy years we have had. Thank you students above for your inspiration. I love my students and all young people. Blessings to all of you on your life's journey into greatness.
I've watched several choirs covering this. These young artists truly capture the spirit and love of the hymn. Lyrics by Ludie D. Pickett, 1897 I've seen the lightning flashing, I've heard the thunder roll. I've felt sin's breakers dashing, trying to conquer my soul. I've heard the voice of Jesus telling me to fight on. He promised never to leave me, no, never alone. He'll never leave you alone The world's fierce winds are blowing, temptations sharp and keen. I felt a peace in knowing my Savior stands between. He stands to shield me from danger, when earthly friends are gone. He promised never to leave me, no, never alone. When in affliction's valley, I'm treading the road with care. My Savior helps me to carry a cross too heavy to bear. My feet entangled with briers, ready to cast me down. Never. Never. Never. Never. Never. Never. He'll never leave you alone.
okay, so i'm a big ol' wuss, but this brings me to many joyful tears- as much as the original does, maybe more so because we get to see the whole group doing it, and in one take, no less. it lifts the spirit up and makes life worth the living...if only to hear songs like this. special shout out to who ever the pianist was, and the wonderful woman who didn't just sing, but her perfectly timed tambourine! a great rendition of a beautiful composition. thank you all for the love you give, then and now.
Outstanding! Outstanding! Newbie subscriber here. I too grew up listening to the version of "Never Alone" by the Contemporary Gospel Chorus of the High School of the Performing Arts -- and used to see students from that wonderful high school on the "E" train back when I was in high school in Hell's Kitchen. We were never jealous of them because they were awesomely talented, always singing and/or dancing on the subway platforms and inside the subway cars. I was great to be a teen in the 1970s going into the 1980s.
I needed to hear this song and this performance is better than the original. I love the fact that the male voices with rich harmonies are so prevalent. You guys made history right there. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much. I just downloaded sheet music and Im connected thru church and musicians in my community. Blessings and much favor to you and yours.
A friend transcribed it (a long time ago!) It has since been posted here on You Tube : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3ItBVjMYAjM.html
