This video has come just at the right time! It's been about a month that the opening to the Barber of Seville has been added to the repertoire of my school orchestra and it has this D4 to E3 and C4 to D3 that I've never played before. Thanks for the advices.

Great advice, thanks Natalie! I've been fighting a downward slur in the 4th Weissenborn bassoon trio (first bassoon), it's the D# just above the staff down to low B. I definitely shrink away from it instead of confidently leaning in, I'll see if I can't improve on that! -Ellie

That’s tricky! I would definitely start the D# louder than normal to help accommodate that. And hearing the B before you play it is helpful too.

Great video, so helpful. I used to wimp out a lot and stress would make me croak or go silent ! Eek Could you do a video on crooks? (Bocal) ? I’m playing a student model bassoon with a generic crook that came with it. I’m looking to upgrade my crook but don’t know where to start really. Any help would be great. Thank you 🙏

Help. How do you slur high Ab down to the Eb below it? The Eb is so prone to cracking. I'm talking about the first Ab above middle C down to the first Eb above middle C

There are a few different high Ab fingerings that you can try that will probably help that slur. I would experiment with each one and see what works best. Also for the Eb, make sure you have all three fingers in your right hand down (not just 2), that should help. Usually the problem occurs when not enough fingers are changing from one note to the next, so changing the fingerings help make the slur more clean in this specific situation. Hope this helps!
