Leaving a bit of food or not finishing your drink entirely kinda means "I'm good, I don't really need this food/drink". For me, it's a stupid tradition and I actually see more and more people, even one generation above me, admit that they don't like that too. That tradition still somewhat exists in less urbanized places (ie. poor people in village), other than that you don't really have to worry about it. Even so, you have to know your place. - Leaving food as someone who's from poorer background when visiting a rich person house means "I'm good, this food doesn't amaze me". - Leaving food as someone who's rich when visiting a poor person house means "This food doesn't taste as good as what I usually eat". All foreigners are basically deemed richer than locals, so you should always clean the plates to respect their foods
