Those ratings… they are a minimum rating so one could be better but both meet the same requirements to get that label only one way to tell…. Test it ….first lubricity then heat then lubricity at different temps and then cleaning agents and ability…. Then thickness at different temps. Also may wanna check for sludge removal and buildup. But yeah generally close to same there is some stuff that works really damn good and is expensive. Like for example when it comes to two strokes basically ya can get only so good at a certain price but when ya get into the big$ items like voltage racing oil how little buildup there is after a good tank vs the rest or Lubricity at high temp like AMSoil Sabre and vp or overall like bel ray but that’s for two wheels and two strokes lol I’d say go with a synthetic period over any regular oil but that’s my two cents

Sorry then tell us what the molecular structure is of petroleum oil semi synthetic petroleum oil and 100% synthetic oil can you do that first please can you we would like to know exactly what the difference is of those hydrocarbon chains that makes up each one a little different than the other that is the main reason for having them that you don't seem to understand or relay so you must know since you know everything there is to know about cheap oil and expensive oil so tell us can you? After working with Blackstone laboratories and doing hundreds of oil analysis on aircraft and automotive vehicles I can tell you not all engine oils is the same. After doing testing on many synthetics I can tell you that mobile oneIs a bottom of the barrel synthetic and you're better off with a High quality non synthetic oil.. Amsoil tends to hold its viscosity and additive package much longer than most oils. oils with zinc tend to have less Chromium and nickel in the used oil. I believe it buffers the lifters on non roller type engines better. The standard you are referring to as a minimum spec. it's like saying all students the same as long as they get d- or better. By the way if you're wondering Omni makes O'reilly's oil for them.

Castrol is an excellent oil. All I've used once my old man a master mechanic taught me the difference. Generics will cause sludging of your drain ports and heads. Which leads to undue friction and wear. I put 168000 hard miles on my 91 Silverado and when I traded it in the engine was just as clean as it was when I bought it with 124 miles on it. Castrol is well worth the price. And what you didn't mention is if your vehicle says synthetic oil only you must use it. Once you change to synthetic oil from standard you must stay with synthetic oil.

Unlike medicine, you're engine isn't going to OD on mixing the wrong kind of pills or needing to have the correct dosages etc... So if you buy a higher end oil over a baseline oil, you're going to likely be benefitting your engine more so than not. Name brand medicines vs dollar store brand are going to be nearly if not identical because you don't normally want to kill people that are buying over the shelf medicines(or in general), because you though adding something would make it work better.

No additives are going to make a significant difference on a car that holds 55 to and from work. If you were racing or modified your car in some way that would increase oil wear than going for a more expensive oil could help. But the fact of the matter is: most of the wear an engine endures is caused by the initial cold start every morning when the cylinders aren’t properly lubricated due to sitting over night. Full synthetic oil of any brand really, will be the best thing you can do for it, but it still won’t make much of a difference in your engines lifespan. What’s really important is that you change the oil regularly in the first place.

The most important thing when you put oil in your car is just to change it all the time. Clean oil will make your car run longer and last longer. If you don't change your oil and it gets dirty that's when your part start to wear and break down inside. It really doesn't matter what kind of oil whether it's the cheap oil or the expensive oil, you just have to change it more often. Oil never goes bad it just gets dirty. Don't let your car go for thousands and thousands of miles without changing your oil. You should change your car every 3,000 miles you can let it go to 5000 with full synthetic but that's about it. And it also depends where you live if you live in a dirty and dusty environment change your oil more often

My dad recently stopped driving. I bought his car from him. He used quick change oil places for his oil changes. He had all of his records and never went more than 5k between changes. The car had about 40k miles when I bought it. When I did the first oil change, the oil was black within 200 miles. The engine was sludged up pretty good. It also had what sounded like valve tick under moderatly hard acceleration. I do my own oil changes with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. I changed the oil 4 times in 10k miles. The tick is gone and the oil looks somewhat transparent when I change the oil at 5k miles. I don't trust cheap oil. The oil may be fine but the additive package makes a difference.

I used O'Reilly's oil before and it loses its viscosity very fast. I prefer Mobil 1, sure it costs me 8 more dollars every 3k miles but it still has some miles in it when I change it..unlike the O'Reilly's brand which wasn't much thicker than water coming out.

Yes same rating BUT different quality “ additive packaging “ !!! I’ll stick with the higher quality name brand. Btw people, all motor oil base stock starts out clear, it’s the additive package that gives it it’s color!

I’m in the process of replacing my LS that has 350,000 miles on it due to a wiped cam lobe. While that is a lot of miles, the only reason it failed was due to oil sludge clogging the oiling system. After the break in period I switched to Mobil 1 synthetic. I never payed attention to the time or mileage on the oil because I always referred to the oil life monitor, which I assumed was programmed for natural oil usage. I figured that I was way ahead of the curve by using and changing full synthetic at those intervals. Upon removing a rocker cover, I discovered HUGE amounts of sludge on the inner surfaces and with the engine running, ZERO oil was coming to the top of the engine! The lesson learned is, whatever your oil life monitor says…change it when it shows 50% oil life remaining.
@steverugerguy9606
@steverugerguy9606 3 месяца назад
Yes ...i never go by the oil life monitor...too long...i am surprised though that mobil 1 sludged even after the long drain intervals....it usually keeps engines spotless....coolant leak on the inside maybe?

What is more reliable, oil monitor, or 5k mile oil changes? I parked my perfectly running vehicle with over 750k miles (due to corrosion.) I NEVER even had a valve cover off of it, let alone had a lubrication issue.

O’reilly doesn’t make their own engine oil. They get it from the plants that make the name brand stuff, and slap an o’reilly label on it. Though, the house brand oils really aren’t that much cheaper than the name brand ones.

I get passed 7,000 miles and it’s still pretty clean when I’m changing it oil. Pretty much I’ve learned that you’re just basically buying the name brand, motor oil IS motor oil 👍🏼
