Hi Gaz. I also grow garlic. I cut the scapes a few weeks before harvest to allow the garlic to grow better, the soil and sun feeding the garlic instead of the scapes' flowers. Also, I cut the scapes into one-inch pieces, dry them slowly in a 200-degree oven and grind them in a coffee grinder. Result: Perfect garlic powder without any additives!!! Scapes then can be used to dress anything you are cooking such as steaks, fish, etc.. Regards, Gerry
Can we take a moment to appreciate the dedication this man has to his content. Every video is so masterfully and tastefully crafted ! And with that posting frequency ?! Amazing work man I love it
There are no videos I get more excited about these days. Literally the only content I want to consume. And that's not even doing it justice, it's not just "content", it's education, and a reminder. Saving up for a place with a back yard I can max out with fresh food!!!! Sending love your way Gaz and Tom:)
You ARE the Bob Ross of cooking and gardening. Your gentle encouraging and reassuring manner makes anyone want to plant garlic or anything else for that matter. Thank you for all the content, thank you for all the wonderful advice and recipes. You are so talented! Can't wait to see more. Tomorrow I'm going to the store to get garlic so that I can plant it. 😊
Okay, but when I found Gaz and Spicy moustache my mental health got so much better and I got motivated. So thank you so much ❤. Your not only creating content but your making others lives better.
Gaz, you're role model for men in the 21st century. Respect for nature, homegrown homemade food, for our community, for friends, family and all mankind. The world is BEAUTIFUL because of people like you.
I’m with you on the garlic. I haven’t had to buy garlic since I started planting them. Also of note, I planted asparagus 4 years ago and it comes back beautifully every year as it’s a perennial. Where I am in Canada, asparagus costs a fortune, so I feel it’s a massive cost saver.
If you blanch it for minute’s no more then 5, you can bake it or sauté it with any flavors you personally love, even the simple garlic and butter with a tad bit of salt.
I spent $12 USD last fall for garlic bulbs and, by midsummer this year I was pulling enough garlic for my family and two other families to use for the next handful of years.
Hi Gaz, I learned from a farmer that you can braid or make a knot to the garlic while still in the bed before harvesting (when the leaves are long and a little bit yellow) and when the leaves are all dry and completely yellow you harvest it, this is to help grow bigger bulbs. Love your channel and all the homestead videos. Greetings from Colombia 🇨🇴
Yep, and proud. Just got my garlic replanted and tucked into bed for winter here in Alaska, zone 4b. I plant Spanish Rojo hard neck. It produces bulbs larger than a golf ball. Yummy and beautiful.
Really love the format of your videos lately: the mix of gardening and cooking, and just beautiful to look at as a viewer. I've been a vegan for 18 years, and a home gardener for about 5 now, and I've learned so much from the content you provide. Thank you!
Absolutely loved this video, Gaz and Tom! Super high quality and nostalgic, reminded me a lot of the gardening TV shows I used to watch with my parents when I was a kid - in the best way! It's got me excited to grow my own garlic this autumn. Love your work.
Wouldn't it be fun to dare Gaz - always joking about being single - to invite this lively, positive and grounded girl from (near) Amsterdam to drive up to Wales and create a video on how making a 'Stinking Rose Bagna Cauda' is actually THE BEST thing to do on a first date. Simmering being a great part of both recipes turning out successful. Just saying, you all deserve the taste of that heavenly garlicky frenching and I'm down for a roadtrip adventure 🙋🏼♀️
The garlic bread looked so good. I made my fire cidar last week. I also add sliced oranges and black peppercorns. I highly recommend this for the winter months 🌻🌻
You're videos just keep getting better and better (and that is saying something!). Now I can't wait until Autumn comes in Ontario so I can plant my own garlic!!
You're such an inspiration. I hope to lead a life like this one day! Growing my own food and making my own condiments on the countryside. Looks like a bliss!
Gaz, wow! These videos are some of the best I've ever watched - educational, inspiring, all with some incredible recipes. The shots are so beautiful. It's such a joy to watch your channel. You also look so dang happy. Thank you for your content!
I can’t remember the last time I bought garlic. It basically takes care of itself in the garden. The easiest crop to grow, for sure. That bread looked amazing! Great job, as usual, gents! Blessings…
"Garden to table" .i love how your channel has evolved & the health & medicinal information & recipes you now share just rounds everything off beautifully.Thank you 💚🙏🌿🌻🍒🌾
Gaz - I love watching you live your best plant-based life. So inspiring..one day I'll be able to do the the same on my own property but in the meantime - I will dream like everyone else watching your beautifully filmed content! Thanks so much, Gaz and team!
Love seeing the chickens looking longingly to be apart of all your masterpieces!! Please get close ups of the princesses!!! thanks for your beautiful home grown delights!!
I am so happy to watch you work so hard in your kitchen garden, I will be growing some garlic myself now too and tons of onions as we really eat so many, I did not realise till now, love to watch you .

Gaz, You are a lucky ma, dear!!! With that abode of a garden, you're a millionaire!!!Now, Im gonna do my garden, too! It needs a bit of love out there, after a cold cold winter!!!See Yah!
I love to peel and fire a load of my home grown garlic into the food processor, then freeze it in a silicone mould so I have little frozen garlic pucks to throw into what I’m cooking. So handy to have them in the freezer!
Love gardening I grew up working in a commercial garden. Love growing garlic. Garlic is definitely not a first date thing but, my Italian great-grand-dad used say that garlic is an aphrodisiac but only if you eat it together.
Hey Gaz just got my wife following your channel. It's her 2nd year in the veg garden. Thanks for helping to inspire her. Had some great produce so far this year . She will be firing some questions at you. Help her out if you can ? Great channel love your foods keep up the good work.
Garlic is on my list for this fall. Can’t wait to see the results. You make sustainable plant based eating and living so interesting and best of all, doable! Always anxious for your next video to come out.
I am SO excited to grow garlic this year! This will be my first time growing it on our new homestead, and I can't wait to taste it! I went with the Music variety, so I'll have lovely scapes to play with next spring too. I love your mushroom shirt by the way - I'm also growing wine cap mushrooms for the first time, and they are delicious!
Throughout my depression, I've watched your videos and slowly started remembering why I love being vegan and cooking and all that jazz, these vids are the best :")
What an inspiringly dedicated human. What I always love about his content is the takeaway is not just about what he can accomplish (in 3 years! Which is crazy) but what all of us can do. Embodies inspiration in so many areas. Videos like this move people to so many acts of love, life and creation and aid chefs, creators, farmers and so many others. Always one of those channels that does something to help everyone on all sides in the most beautiful way.
Omgosh, that garlic bread looked DELECTABLE!!! Gaz, thank you for your wonderful, inspiring, and mouth-watering-inducing videos! 😂 Ordered all 3 of your books, so can’t wait to try out these recipes first hand! ❤❤❤
A tip to take advantage of the green part of garlic and enjoy everything garlic can offer us. I usually put the stems in the food processor to chop very finely with a little salt and put them in the freezer to add to soups and stews all year round!
my gosh im in love with a man who doesnt know I exist 🤣 This man is earthy, humble, kind, funny, passionate, enthusiast and an excellent chef! like what more could you ask for! oh and he's a leo too 🥲 God bless you Gaz, your contents are blessings to the eyes! Its my first year gardening, but I havent grown garlic so I am off right now to follow the steps Gaz recommended
You are a great light for the world, for all beings in the world, for all other planets, universes and dimensions. Pure energy of synchrony, frequency, harmony and vibration, thank you 💥💥💥💥💛💥💥
Love this format - sharing your gardening knowledge and experience about one veggie, sharing some uses (fire cider tonic!), and an amazing recipe. Outstanding!!!
I literally just got off the phone with bestie where we talked about growing garlic. I will be planting in some old food safe plastic tubs I found behind the house, that the old house owners had left behind. I just drilled holes in them and have had peppers growing there all summer. This will be my first time planting garlic, so I'm starting small scale in case I fail.
I've not bought garlic 4 year's saving your own is a great feeling my son had a terrible cough last winter so I put a clove wrapped in tissue and placed under both feet put sock's back on the cough and fever cleared in an hour. It's powerful stuff
I recommend 4" deep and 7" between rows and columns, and then inter-planting. From this year's experience, 4" of mulch might be sufficient. Keep the soil moist whatever you do. Garlic is ready to harvest when the scape makes a half circle. Harvest for hard neck is when 5 leaves have dried. The roots should be chopped off.
Looks yummy!! My daughter made sourdough bread with garlic scape, parmesan inside it. It was the best bite of food ever eaten!! My sister grows and sells garlic on Vancouver Island where we are from. My sister also dehydrated some garlic and gives us precious garlic powder for Christmas. Her garlic is strong...so the powder is potent. I made guacamole and just added the powder, you would have never known it wasn't fresh. We also just bake a small casserole of fresh garlic and love oil for gatherings and serves with crackers, honey, cheeses.
You are a significant contributor to all. You work hard, you have a great attitude and always willing to help people. I've been very impressed with your effort! ❤Im so happy for your success!😉👌
Lovely as usual. Drinking full strength apple cider will hurt your teeth enamel and throat. This kind of fire is dangerous, it might erode the lining. Instead, dilute it in a glass of water and sip it using a straw. Keep your lovely smile and teeth. Delicious recipes.
I used to grow lovely garlic until the rust hit it here in Aotearoa/NZ, preventing the plants from growing full term. I watched your healthy plants with envy. I think I will start again using the variety of possible remedies being voiced here. Great video
Lovely to see Gaz growth from his earlier videos to now...where is your team? i hope they are still with you. :) Was great watching all of you eat together!
Bringing up garlic at my house on the West Coast of U.S.A was fortuit and brought my family together. We were composting scraps and i threw some garlic in a bush. In 2 weeks the bulb already had roots and we sowed them in some pots similar to what you did in your raised beds. My Dad jokes and says that the garlic came from the Bart Simpson´s academy of Under Acheivers🤣😂
Loving the wrap at the end lol😂 love garlic absolutely loving how far your channel has come and watching u grow this beautiful tasteful garden the passion u have really shines ❤
I'll have to try that fire cider. My go-to garlic heal-all is = 1 head of garlic + 1 onion. Dice up the veggies and add them to a pint jar with a good lid. Fill the jar with locally grown honey. Let sit 12 hours at room temperature. The honey will turn real watery, which is weird. Take one tablespoon daily to clear up your lungs. Great if you're a smoker with that phlegmy cough! I've never seen anything work nearly as good. Don't make too much at one time. Maybe a pint at most. Keep it stirred so all the veggies are coated with honey. Putting it in the fridge wouldn't be a bad idea. I didn't try straining the veggies out, but that'd probably work if you let it set for awhile to make sure the good stuff got all into the honey. Between that and the Switchel I now drink every day, another good home-made recipe, I feel like a new man. That's a good thing at my age!
Like very much your videos and journey BUT as a Frenchie I have to wince a little at the harvesting! Only harvest once stem falls, only after 3 dry days and never EVER take off the outer paper before curing! Use the biggest cloves for planting and your next harvest will be bigger bulbs. Add ash from your fire to soil to besure of tasty biggies!
I have just decided not to plant garlic this autumn. Tough decision (illness in the family=less time) but I love garlic and I'm looking forward to the recipes :) Your garden looks beautiful, by the way.
You are inspiring me and changing my life. I love your recipe but i never have that confidence to make. I am vegan and trying to find the best way to eat. In the beginning is difficult like everything in this life but later with be everything ok
Mom n me have tried for 3 years and mom enjoyed young garlic but I was not a fan but after your video maybe we will have more courage and try next year and hopefully we can get a bunch my family uses garlic daily
