James wrote this song when his dad was going through dialyses due to kidney failure as they couldn't find a donor, they did at the end and his dad is still alive and is, as far as we know, doing well. Iam's dad passed away due to kidney failure. To James this must be painful because the song is so emotional for him, yet here he is, singing it with this young man with such a pure heart, that actually went through what he wrote this song thinking he would be going through. To Iam, well, it comes full circle with this performance, he did it, he did his dad proud, he made it to the finale, and he is now singing this song with the one and only James Blunt, on national television while people from all over the world is cheering him on. Add to that James' heartbreaking voice and emotion, and we have this beautiful result.
This one always gets me, and having 2 people that I know the backstories on perform it, makes it harder to watch. James Blunt wrote the song when he thought he was losing his father to kidney failure. His father has since gotten a donor kidney and is fine, but watching the original video for this is just heart wrenching
Can understand why they be sooo hard about this video, 2 me it's sums up everything that's been sooo great about this season of American. The best season ever and IAM TONGI IS OUR ❤️ HEART. THIS shows how deep we all feel about Iam and this is the bestest moment in history of the show
Iam won he hearts of all of us. James waa so compassionate to him and helped him through the emotional performance 😢 James wrote this for his Dad who was dying but thankfully after James Blount wrote this and performed it with his Dad sitting next to him in the video his Dad received treatment that helped him. If you have watched the video of him winning AI, look for the part where the camera pans to his family reacting. James Blunt is standing and watching with them. I think that says it all.

I really love how James supports Iam throughout this challenging song. James is visibly stressed through his song but he selflessly makes it possible for Iam to get through the duet.

Haven’t watched American Idol forever until Iam. The best AI show ever!!! His fame shot up so fast, most people would have a big head but not Iam…he just chillin! He’s a beautiful soul and we are all blessed by his music and his charm!
