Hi mate my female Harris has damaged her back toe/talon, the skin around the talon joining is blooded and a bit scabby, I think she has somehow knocked the talon up whilst flying at her ring perch and it has bled so she has picked at it with her beak. What would be your best advice please ? I have applied F10 and wrapped all the mesh on her cage in paracord so that she can not hurt it further.
Hi, thanks for your comment. Firstly, its best to know how it occurred if possible, so you can change or fix whatever that is. Secondly, regards to treatment, you've done the right thing with the F10. A bandage on a bird's foot is not ideal as it will only peck at that anyway and could caused more damage, so F10 every day is the best way forward. Keep a very close eye on it - if it looks swollen or feels warm, it is probably infected, so straight to your specialist vet. I've found in the past that F10 is like a miracle cream to keeping things clean and even clearing up infections on birds and reptiles. You could 'box' your hawk overnight or for some periods during the day as this will allow it to rest well. Keep me updated and if you have any further questions, please let me know
