Fun fact: Kalisz is the oldest polish city. It was built even before Poland became a country! It was on the "Amber trade route", which was used by Romans in ancient times to transport amber from the coast of the baltic sea

There is another "don't-do". Never say "dziękuję" when you pay bill to the bartender or waiter because in Poland it means "no change please".

This bell is called Mikołaj. It was stolen by Germans during the war but was later recovered, damaged, from a scrapyard in Wrocław.

Klisz is old, but really nice. Probably it is the oldest Town in Poland. A year ago I was in Kalisz with my friends. One of them was boy, who has pole mother and african father. But he was born in Poland, he live his life in Poland and the only language he knows is polish. But he is a Little black. On the main market a woman came to US and spat on his face and said "wypi******* stąd" (it means "get out of here" but in not nice way). That was my first and the last visit in Kalisz. --- Im waiting for you in Poznań. Come back! Or in 3 miasto (Gdańsk - Gdynia - Sopot)!

Here's few tips on buying stuff early in the day: - in most cases, bakery (piekarnia) is open from 6 AM - you can buy a lot of stuff in "Żabka" (this in many cases include hot dogs and hot coffee) and they are also open from 6 AM - other than that, most of stores are open from 10 AM (sometimes 9 AM) In most cases cashiers in stores (not only on markets like the one you visited) don't like if you buy something small/cheap paying with like 50/100PLN. But I'd say it's not just here in Poland, I had the same thing in the Netherlands :P Cheers!

The biggest note I usually carry is 50 unless i go to an ATM and it gives me 100 in which case I go to the supermarket and buy what I need to get change ,otherwise I always use a pay as you go Euro or Dollar card just like a credit card only you can only my spend what you put on the card . That city looks like a perfect place to live but I think I say that about the cities I've seen in Poland ,but it's the Polish people I love most of all they are so friendly .💯😎

Its not about being a vloger or speaking in english. We just don't have much non-white people so every other skin tone naturally draw attention. I remember having cultural shock when i came back from France. Was there just a week but when i got back into polish bus i was like "holy sh*t... they are all the same color!' it was kinda weird and scary even tho im white too xD

Its the same psychological mechanism that make you turn your attention on someone on the wheelchair for example. It has nothing to do with what you are thinking about that person , it is just something that is not seen by you everyday so your brain naturally want to know more about it so you can say that "its drawing attention". We have such markets called "bazarek" or "rynek" in most of the cities. I live in small town Żyrardów with about 40k inhabitants and we have one. I sometimes visit similar or even smaller cities like Płońsk or Puck or Warka and there are small markets too. I know only one small town-like village Chynów that doesn't have one.

11:10 on the wall: this is the story of this bell near to u. First, after church burned, bell was renovated but not really good. Then was danger od his fall so was taken off and renovated again. Grabed by Nazis, was found in Wrocław and brought to Kalisz ;)

Hey Luke I can explain You why the Berry's are so small , mostly on that kind of markets they are selling products collected from natural places like woods so they are not from the farms where mostly are used pesticides to get them bigger :):) Trust me maybe they are smaller but they're more healthy than that one's which You can buy in the bigger store's !!

Hello, nice vid :) Food markets in Poland aren't normally open on Sundays, so you had luck. If you want to buy some food or drink early in the morning you should look for Żabka or Biedronka shop (the first one is open every day). Greetings from Lodz :)

In Łódź you have also similar big markets open everyday (only not on Sunday) from early morning, very close to city centre (Bałucki Rynek, Zielony Rynek, Górniak), few smaller also. Also Kalisz is well known in Poland for being the oldest Polish city (town) registered in any historical documents.

I moved away from here when I was 3 so 14 years ago and I’ve only visited back once or twice, and it was so weird to see you walk by a close family friends stand and he said hello to you. Also the market place is literally next to my grandmothers flat where I always look over at it. This is so cool to see you walking around. The thing with not having change for a hundred is that if many people pay with high bills the sellers end up with less small change. So many times it's not that they don't have change but don't want to tell you they do. There are places in Poland where there are markets that are actually surprising to people comming from other cities. I was shocked by the markets in Świnoujście, where i saw people selling cigarettes and pirated CDs and DVDs just as if it was so normal. Illegal stuff on the streets could have been found more often over 20 years ago, but not now. I felt like i went back in time. Anyway i enjoyed my stay there. There are many interesting places to see in Poland.

Shame that most of the younger people get out of there as soon as they finish high school because there's nothing to do there. I learned my lesson about paying with a larger bill, only a fifty, last summer in Biedronka. I think they rather you just charge it. Of course in the street markets I used cash. I just happen to be wearing a sweater today that I bought in a street market in Poznan last summer. Only 10 zl and it is really nice!

You know why they often stare at you, don’t you? The same happens to me when I got to remote places in Africa. Some of those people see a black man for the first time in their life. Apart from movies of course. I remember when I lived in a small town in Poland. I was like 10 at the time. One day friends woke me up knocking at my door at 7 am! They shouted that there was a black man in town. I hurried like crazy to see him with my own eyes. When I got there, there was like 50 kids following and watching him. Nobody was making any comments, just watching in awe. I still remember the feel: man, it’s for real! Just like in the movies! I like your videos by the way...

Tips: Sunday is in most cases day off in Poland, lots od shops are closed beacause od the law, so remember. Farmers markets are always open on Friday and Saturday in smaller cities (if its holiday of course they are mostly not open). In bigger cities like in Warsaw are almost every day. Tap water in Poland is very good, in Łódź is very good, but in smaller towns is the best. For example in my home town Pabianice is one of the best and is so tasty, better than from the bottle, so I recommend not to buy ;-). Polish bread is the best and pierogi, knedle, pampuchy and everything ;-P. If you are vegan or vegetarian you can find lots of food, just ask ;-). P.S. It's so cute, that you say dzień dobry and dziękuję almost to everyone. Polish people are sometimes untrusty so it's really cool start conversations with these words.

Kalisz? Gdańsk (all of Trójmiasto really), Kraków and Warszawa are the places you wanna go to! And if you like nature and history definitely make detours to Wieliczka, Zakopane, Białystok, Malbork, Łeba and Sobieszewo. Could easily spend a full month just in Poland.

Been in beautiful Poland since May...hardest thing to do in Poland is get change. I go into a big well known bank..”change please. No we don’t give change.” What! Found the small banks or credit unions will give change.

even if they do have the possibility to make change, they do not have the obligation to do so, especially if you go to a store with a 100zl bill just to buy a 0,30zl breadstuff, but i guess it's quite logical isn't it
