People say that Shroud's signum wasn't so much about his aim because every elite player had aim at the time, but rather Shroud's ability to quickly adjust and take out multiple enemies at once.

He'd crunch under pressure and under-performed heavily on LAN. He didn't take his career seriously as his streaming was going so well. There's old twitch clips from n0thing and sgares talking about how he would stream for hours on end, then turn up to team practice exhausted. I mean I don't blame him for dropping his mediocre CS pro career to be the #1 PUBG streamer, but that's exactly why shroud was a bad pro player. Part of being a pro player is taking your career seriously, and he fell short in just about every way that a pro player has to excel. He didn't have very good gamesense either.

This is a dogshit take. He played some of the goats of the game(s) and held his own, and still had very respectable placements in majors and IEM events. CS is a team game, and you are at the mercy of the role. He is obviously very talented and has highlight reels (as you just watched????) dunking on some of the games goats as if they were pub shitters. And the stats do not support shroud either. He has worse stats against top 20 teams than Tarik, who also has much more trophy wins. For more comparison, Tarik has 2 1v5 clutches on record. Shroud has 0. Tarik has 33 5 kill / ace rounds on record. Shroud has 9. Shroud was never an hltv top 20 player, and has no tournament evps, let alone MVPs. He has one S-tier tournament win and he wasn't even the highest rating player on his team, and only 6th highest rating player in the event.

Actually, he was insanely good THEN too. The players praised him for effectively jumping in and just shitting on everyone. Had he played a role more suited to his playstyle, NOT BEEN GIVEN THE BOMB LMAO, and had a bit more time to learn the ins and outs of high level valorant, he very likely could have been a star player in that game as well. Valorant meta had changed drastically and the existing SEN core at the time wasn't doing a good job of keeping up. He did very good given the hand he was dealt, and the org and players at the time all acknowledged that and said effectively what I just said.

The NA scene has been in decline for YEARS, hence most of the top NA players switching to Valorant and finding success. Remove the market and the game will disappear. Some decide to move on, and we never see them reach their potential. Again, TenZ, Twistzz, Ethan, FNS, Yay, Crashies, Victor, Marved, hell, even the C9 roster that won the major. It is a TEAM game. Individual HLTV stats only tell you so much. There is no measurement for potential, or aim, or talent. Winning a major being the baseline for a playing being considered "good" or not is ENTIRELY braindead and it's the single most worst thing I have ever seen out of a community. You sound too biased. We admire that he has the mentality to compete and qualify in pro scenes. But one thing we can learn is that he is way too overrated. The fans recognize him for his robotic aim and insane precision skills which is amazing. Although the highlights and clips he made in cs were stunning for most cs players (including me), his results were poor in almost every match we saw in pro games. Even though he has won multiple awards from his CS career, we haven't got to see the man to actually wield the MAJOR trophy. His CS pro career ends too soon and does not reach his potential. The 2018 major winner Cloud9 was an exception, but I feel like they won because of a lightning bolt in a jar. Though I sound a little too biased, shroud may have retired but he's living a heck of a life as a full-time streamer.

His talent cannot be questioned. Give him a better foundation/ team/ coach etc and I guarantee he could have shined. Look at Twistzz after he moved to FaZe. There is no HTLV stat for potential, or mechanical prowess. Everyone seems to forget how many "failed" CS pros moved to Valorant and won international events, or how many "failed" CS pros never actually won a major in CSGO. NiKo never won a major. Guardain never won a major. Elige never won a major. The list goes on. This shouldn't discredit them in any way. Talent is talent, and it is clear when a player is capable. It's a shame Shroud never reached his full potential, nor won a major. That doesn't mean he wasn't capable of doing so. Same with MANY others. Can't forget it's a team game, and you are only as good as your team. You are also at the mercy of the role you play. On top of those facts, look at s0m, or TenZ. TeNz found success in valorant, and currently looks much more comfortable and capable after his role change, paired with a better team and a MUCH better coaching/ supporting staff. Imagine a world where Shroud had moved to FaZe, or had a fantastic coach, or any of the things players in the modern era of FPS benefit from that the didn't have then. It's been nearly a decade. I think it's fair to give him his flowers for his obvious mechanical ability, and his potential that was unfortunately no taken full advantage of. The shit talking is crazy considering he still had some great placements on C9 at several international events against some of the best to EVER do it. He is good, and this is obvious. Naysayers are simply WRONG, as he wouldn't be coveted as an aim demon, or a mechanical god otherwise. He simply didn't have the success he could have had, and that's all there is to it. He isn't the first to walk in those shoes, and he definitely wont be the last. Tragic, but we can still appreciate what he did for the scene and gaming/ esports as a whole. Impactful in one way or another.
