Hello guys, launch is not even possible in D. The entine torque will be reduced after a certain bouncing time due to missuse. This timer has even been reduced in the latest modells due to too many people destroying their clutch thinking they are doing a launch while in reality they are just driving against the brakes. Launch is only possible in S or M while ESP / ASR is turned off and the gearbox temperature is high enough (next to some other minor conditions) Read the manual! From a DCT engineer
This was actually a true story, some idiot bought his first car wiith automatic/dsg gearbox and was calling dealership to complain that his car wouldn't run during night. After a few sentences of describing his issue with the car, they figured the unthinkable. He thought that D was driving during day, and N is for night mode driving... 🤦♀🤦♀🤦♀🤦♀😂😂
@@xxmeanyheadxx doesn’t take long, but you still have to get the rpm’s up or you’re fighting the load before the rpm’s are high enough to fully spool the turbo.
@@xxmeanyheadxx yeah, even then revving it up to launch is still useful for a faster launch. Watch some drag racers and you’ll see they all do it. On drag cars, they generally have devices called trans brakes on automatics to assist with this.
Don't launch in D, I've heard it's bad for the box in general. S has different shift duration and therefore pressure during the shift, which helps reduce wear caused by excessive slip.
I throw it in the 1 mode to make mine go faster. it makes the rpms go up a little and destroys your car but it eliminates the need to shift which is always fun.
@@thephilpott2194 they already do😅 there's been a couple of cases of some 17, 18 year olds alike who break the window to WRX's, get inside the car and they usually don't get much further than neutral with the E-brake still up before they bail
Uh.. you seem to have not launched in any mode. Do it man, do it!😁 Get a friend or family member and a stopwatch, we want to know if there's a time difference. When I was growing up, well, supposed to be anyway, some would argue I never did, we drove manuals and had to learn how to launch on our own. There was no D or S1 or dual clutches, you had to learn a skill or learn a different skill (replacing clutches) because none of us could afford fancy new stuff. It's amazing what new cars can do, and the power these days is just nuts compared to what we had just a few decades back.
Hi Alex! Maybe for a new video we can check the difference indeed! Yeah ive learned the oldschool way aswell, both got its up and downsides. I fell in love with the DSG a few years back and never regretted switching. I do often still drive manuals which is fun too.
When i first bought it i launched 4 times in row with it, gave me gear overheated sign i almost had a heart attack, but looks like the gear had a stroke for launching in D
Everyone has his or hers preference! I like the DSG cause its faster, easier tuneable MT needs a clutch upgrade with tunes, and its more fun to drive for me personally!
DSG´s are pretty good transmissions, the problem is that VW decided to market them as conventional autos with idle creep that just wont work well on a automated manual transmission. These things are not unreliable as they come, they are because of stupid design decisions.
Uh no, this is wrong beyond belief; the DSG does not have dynamic ratios. What is going on is that the active exhaust system likely has the flap closed vs open (sport == open, normal == closed) and boost is likely lowered too; this would explain the difference in noise. The TCM once launched will also likely be less aggressive, optimizing shift-points for fuel economy and stability; some vehicles will perform no-lift shifts effectively in sport modes and non-sport mode they'll cut the ignition briefly for a less aggressive shift. I don't own a Golf R, but I have a Veloster N and it's a very different animal between it's sport mode and the normal mode; the tech is pretty much similar though, both dual-clutch gearboxes, both hot hatches, both turbocharged vehicles, both have active exhausts. One has a more usable interface, the other doesn't and one has an eLSD and the other has AWD with a fancy rear-diff.
1 - via instagram, company called custom_steering_wheels 2 - it was like this since i owned it. Maybe u can try using the flappy paddles on the steeringwheel?
Have driven a Golf R made several years before this one that still has manual transmission. Let's just say it was way more practical. Automatics don't always work in everything
Soft limited to 3K revs just like the 8Y Audi S3. May as well use launch to get it to hold at 4K rpm before releasing brake. I’m sure it’s possible to map out a soft limiter though. The latest 8R Golf and 8Y S3/RS3 ECU’s seem to be locked down to fuck however.
My friend's golf doesn't have a D, it just has two gears one is called "R135" and another called "246". Also his car has two brake pedals. Please advise.
I can't be the only one who thought this was high quality CGI, then mind was blown half way through the next car park video when it becomes apparent its IRL. It's the stillness, the bloom, the saturation, the unrealistic stabilisation. Its so CGI like. Question - what's the camera?
