You should react to more ‘Be More Chill’ songs specifically More than survive (Opening song), the SQUIP enters, I love play rehearsal, and upgrade for more context on the story and if you needed more for time Halloween and do you wanna ride? would be good choices
it is a bit of a bummer that when he listens to musical stuff he listens to it all out of order and randomly. then he’s confused/doesn’t know the context :/
“Fun” fact about Michael in the Bathroom: the reason it progresses the way it does is because it’s sort of showing the buildup to a panic attack. That’s also why you have those rushed staccato notes later, that’s the peak of his panic attack-
The plot is Jeremy, the main character, takes the squip and becomes "cool" (and a jerk), he then ditches his best friend Michael who you heard in the first song, also the squip is trying to take over the entire school and probably the whole world
@@Ven0mancer *steps in as the singular person who read the book* WELL YOU SEE actually in the book he's pretty chill and supportive and trying to give his best advice but realizes he cant help so he's like "heyyyy maybe you should just. not rely on me" and its really cute but it wouldn't translate into a musical well so they changed the ending to be more dramatic its implied that the squip is just taking the most extreme route to satisfy what jeremy asked for help with in the musical soo
starting with micheal in the bathroom was a bold choice, usually people wait at least 10 minutes before making people cry that song is my go too for explaining a what a panic attack feels like
Ok so really quick Jeremy is the main character and Michael was his best friend before he took the pill and practically abandoned him, Michael knows there’s something up with this “sqip” though, that girl who sang a guy that is kinda be into is Christine and Jeremy has a huge crush on her. The song and characters maybe would have had a better introduction to their personality if you watched more then survive, I love play rehearsal, and possibly some of the animatic cut scenes like “loser”
As a huge BMC fan for so many years, the fact he has no context, started with one of the last songs, and thought MICHAEL in the bathroom was sung by Jeremy just KILLS me i wish I could explain the whole musical and lore and such to him rn 😂 but YESSSS I’ve been waiting for this video for so long omgg POG
OH MY GOD BE MORE CHILL. it's such an imperfect musical but it means so much to me. it is a very... different experience hearing only the soundtrack tho. especially when it comes michael in the bathroom. george salazar's acting is... it's everything.
If you want to react to more Be More Chill, particularly the animatics, Claudia Cacace has some of the best animatics i've seen covering multiple songs in the musical, so I really recommend!
YES!!! I literally just commented that myself before I saw this! Claudia has INSANE art skills and the vision she has to create beautiful cinematography gives me life. I'm literally a Patreon of hers after I found her Be More Chill animatics. I'm waiting on bated breath for more since it was an actual commission. So she has to finish ^_^
If you're reacting to animatics, I recommend Claudia Cacace's animatics! Basically, somebody commissioned her to make the entire musical into an animatic and it's amazing! (though she hasn't finished the entire musical yet). No shade on Szin of course, but when it comes to BMC animatics, Claudia's are simply the best! I highly recommend watching her videos if you want to know more about this musical because she also includes dialogue for context
I'm glad someone else said so too! She has seriously thee best cinematic visions for her stuff. Just nothing seems to compare once you see her animatics. Friggin phenomenal!
Yeah...it's not surprising he ALWAYS confused af....cause he listening to a musical out of order!! You can do that with a lot of album and artists discography....but not musicals. 🤷♀️
If you do a part 2 of this, I definitely recommend More Than Survive. It's the first song and of you watch an animatic for it, you can very easily follow the introductions to characters
Be more chill is an adaptation of the book by Ned Vizzini ! I really recommend reading it if BMC isn’t your FAVORITE musical. It changed my perspective immediately :)!
I'm in love with the fact that so many of the comments here are some variation of "bmc is such a bad show but I am extremely emotionally connected to it". we all had the same obsessive phases in middle school didn't we
i really liked this video! i just want to let you know that the first song (michael in the bathroom) is sung by jeremy’s best friend after he takes the SQUIP and ditches him entirely. michael never takes it, and i suggest listening to upgrade and the play for more context!!
FOR MORE BE MORE CHILL ANIMATICS! I highly recommend Claudia Cacace, amazing artwork, amazing movement, it just pulls you in and it's very visually impressive. You _need_ to react to them. I recommend: Upgrade, More Than Survive, I Love Play Rehearsal, Two-Player Game, and even The Squip Song tho you reacted to the song already.
Literally same! It reminds me when I used to think Michael was a janitor, some kind of lame teacher, or an arcade store staff member or something (which was my most likely explanation due to the Mountain Dew Red line) who was the only friend Jeremy had, both because Michael loved retro stuff, and also because George's voice sounded so much more mature compared to the rest of the school kids' voices. When I tell you I was so shocked when I watched the Act 1 recording-
If you do more Be More Chill songs, I recommend More Than Survive, Two Player Game and The Smartphone Hour. More Than Survive is the opener and will probably give you more context, plus it really takes me back to that high school awkwardness. Two Player Game is a fun duet, and The Smartphone Hour is all kinds of chaos.
I LOVE the og cast recording of Be More Chill and I'm thrilled that you decided to cover it. For future reference though, most musical's opening numbers will give context and set the tone for the show. That's probably where you should start whenever you're reacting to a musical. If you're not wowed be the end of the opening number, then a lot of shows never make it to a theater
FUN FACT: Met George Salazar (Voice of Micheal) at a Junior State Thespians a year ago, he was really nice! He was the Celebrity guest of the year and he preformed “Michael in the bathroom” and “I love play rehearsal”. He got me to listen to the soundtrack and soon later see the play live.
I totally suggest a longer part to where you listen to the songs in order, this is one of my favorite musicals and it’s so much better when you know what’s going on😂
You should have started with More Then Survive, that's the first song that gives you all the info you need to understand the rest of the soundtrack lol

If you want to see some more cool animatics from be more chill, I highly reccomend claudia cacace. Her animatics are out of this world! You should definetely watch I will survive and upgrade, or I love play rehersal. They would probably give you more context abt the musical
I've literally just found out your RU-vid channel four hours ago when a 'Watching MLB out of context video' popped up in my recommendations, then I started to go through some of your videos and I saw you had reaction videos about Musicals and I cannot put in words how ecstatic I felt because my Broadway phase is hitting so hard-
Be more chill might about be the only musical that I honestly enjoy every song when they come on. Obviously 'more than survive' gives the main context and character intros, but my favourite has to be 'two player game', it gives depth to the friendship between Jeremy and Michael that I don't think we see within most musicals, and 'voices in my head' is a great ending song, leaving us with questions and theories, but still giving us a satisfying ending to the show. This musical gets a lot of shit, even from theatre kids, but I think the cast makes or breaks it, Will and George have so much chemistry as friends, and the original Richard has to be my favourite thing ever.
I've listened to Michael In The Bathroom, and it's now my favorite song, and it basically describes how I felt when I was back in Lexington schooling: Depressed, Suicidal and Stressed Out
All right ima explain the first song ( not fully just a summary) So Michael is the best friend oh the main character Jeremy They where at this party and Jeremy abandoned him which then leads him to have a panic attack and basically the song is about his panic attack
The 2015 Be More Chill is my all time favorite musical soundtrack, I think it’s so wonderfully quirky in every way. Micheal in the Bathroom will never fail to make me cry.
I’m so happy he’s listening to the original Two River Theatre version and not the Broadway soundtrack version- I feel like you get more out of the plot from just the songs and get a feel for the characters better, but ah I just want to sit in a vc with Mathew and explain the plot and sit down and watch it with him I love that he loves the songs but the fact he’s going backwards on the soundtrack is killing me Okay edit he’s never gonna see this but Mathew I’ve seen the musical over 10 times, I know all the songs inside and out if you’d like someone to explain the characters or plot or anything I’m an AVAILABLE 😂💙
So happy to see someone who prefers the TRT version? I love the fact that they included the whole Jeremy and Michael interaction in More Than Survive, and that's about it. Loser Geek Whatever is a great song, but the original cast recording will always be my fav. And I love Will Connolly's voice the most. Also, OMG, you've seen the show 10 times?! Are you still a big fan? I find it rare to find people who love the show as much as I do.
@@areyoucereals YESS I’m still such a big fan- I listened to Michael in the Bathroom since freshman year but got really into watching the musically March of 2020 when the pandemic hit and I’ve never been able to see it at a live theatre since I haven’t seen any near me, but I’ve seen it more than 10 times since and it’s one of my favorite comfort musicals! It’s so rare now to find people who not only just like it but have liked it to my extent lol 😂
the only broadway addition i like is loser, geek, whatever - it feels like jeremy's version of michael in the bathroom and adds a really interesting layer to his character, and fits will roland's voice a lot more than i think it would fit will connolly's, although i would very much like to see him cover it. the only thing that lets the song down is the squip coming in at the end because i really hate the broadway version of the squip :(
Glad you listened to this, it's an awesome musical. Have you considered listening to Owl City? They have a few popular songs you probably know, but they also have some really good lesser known songs like Firebird, Housewren, and Hello Seattle
I love Be More Chill! I'd love to see you react to Dear Evan Hansen, it's a musical that is really personal to myself and a lot of other people. The songs I'd recommend are Waving Through A Window, Sincerely Me, Requiem, and You Will Be Found!! :D
I just started listening to Be More Chill the musical recently because I need to get into as many musicals as possible so I have more options of paintings for my painting wall
The fact that you chose the BEST and SADDEST song to be the first one is hilarious Were waiting for this reaction for a long time, so happy to finally watch it!
watching you get the plot/context completely wrong is hilarious some of the other songs like more than survive and rich set a fire would give more context if you do a part 2
loving bmc, and really enjoyed the vid!! just fyi, i believe szin is pronounced as 'shin'. the artist is polish and sz is pronounced as sh in the lang.
I’m really curious how you pick the songs for these videos. I thought it was popularity but I’m not so sure now More Than Survive is the most important song for context in BMC :)
honestly I came here for "more than survive" its by FAR the best song of the musical and I'd watch a full video fo you only reacting to that song. specifically "More Than Survive - Be More Chill ANIMATIC"
I’m so happy you listened to these because this is one of my favorite musicals and you should listen to more of them. The plot is that Jeremy and Michael are best friends but they’re bullied until rich (one of the popular kids) tells Jeremy about equips so he gets one and then ditches Michael and does a lot of messed up stuff (mostly because the squip forces him to) and then almost everyone gets a squip because Jeremy’s squip is insane and evil
this is my all time favorite musical!! highly recommend listening to the rest of the songs. the ones you're listening to now is the original soundtrack, they also have another broadway soundtrack that you could also look into! Loved the video!
Ohhhh I HIGHLY recommend you watch "Broadway Cast of BE MORE CHILL Performs 'Two Player Game' on GMA". It's probably the most popular song from the musical, has Will Roland as the main character (he played Jared in DEH and was the OBC for this musical (you were listening to the original cast BEFORE broadway)), and is just really awesome to see the two actors and their chemisty together.
I love that Mathew literally read that Jeremy was the main character and proceeds to listen to Michael in the bathroom and think he's the main character.
I see you're from Burwood! There was a local theatre company that held a production of Be More Chill in Hurstville or Kogarah, and as a long-time fan, it was incredible! I'm hoping another local production is done for it, because I miss it! It's definitely worth watching!
I played Jeremy in my high school production, and after listening to the sound track 500 times, and hearing every single song get butchered by us students, I now hate hearing this musical 😂 glad you’re getting to experience some of the songs though, cause it is a good musical
OMG YES! I have WAITED for this! You just made my day! I love Be more chill, even if it's crazy. But hey. I'm crazy too XD Edit: Starting with the saddest song XD We're off to a great start here XD Michael in the bathroom is rather late in the musical.
You definitely need to react to the animatics of Claudia cacace, they have done many be more chill songs and the style and animation is on another level!!!
HI! Loved the reaction! If you’re interested in Be More Chill, do you think you can watch more animatics of the musical? Specifically, Can you watch the animatics done by Claudia Cacace? They’re an AMAZING artist and they’ve done a lot of animatics of Be More Chill, I really Recommend them!
i’d love to see you react to more than survive and the smartphone hour from be more chill too, i think they bring a but of context to the musical that you missed in this video 😅
This was amazing! I really appreciate your reactions. I have a few suggestions if you wanted to do more musicals. Could you do do Bare: A Pop Opera. It’s a beautiful musical and I got really attached to all of the characters really quickly. Or Something Rotten!, which was my first musical and a great comedy. Lovely video as always!
