I clean my kitty's liter box whenever she tells me to, or whenever I see that it needs it. To me, that makes more sense.

As cat owner I am telling 1 box per cat clean every day. Not food or drink next to eat, you don’t want to eat on your toilettes. And a last one water should never be next to food and , many water recipient in different place to help them to drink well.

I remove the poe or pee as soon as I notice it. My cats were all indoor/outdoor cats. My current cat has used the litterbox one time this year, when she was locked inside for a vet visit.

I use those under your bed storage containers. The ones with wheels. My cats like the larger option instead of trying to fit in those traditional ones. One large one and one regular sized one. For two cats. No problems here.

I purchased a stainless steel litter box. Expensive but you have it forever.

My cats don't mind the litter box liner. I scotch tape it to the bottom of the pans so that they won't pull the liner into the box. Then I put a box of baking soda in the bottom, then 10 lbs of litter per box. It is scooped once a day and changed completely once a week. They are in remote places, 1 on each floor, three boxes for two cats. So far so good . . .

The best litter box advise I was given was: “clean the litter box at least once per day so you can see if your cat has a regular elimination cycle” (mine has 2 x pee + 1 x poo daily). And consider that the cat has a sense of smell far greater than you do - so not cleaning the litter box daily is equivalent to a human having to use an uncleaned public washroom at a truck stop. If you won’t do it, don’t expect your cat to! Keep enough litter in the box so that they don’t need to scratch all the way to the bottom of the box to cover up their business. Learn the ‘meow’ your cat uses when they want to remind you that it’s time to clean the box, or just do it at the same time every day.

@@bikeman123 trimming their nails is not cruel. Although outdoor cats need their claws for protection; as for indoor cats -- you might want to trim theirs. Ask your veterinarian. Declawing is what you are thinking of. That is certainly torture and should be against the law. People need to be educated about declawing so thanks for bringing up this subject. Declawing is equivalent to cutting off your finger from the last knuckle. Oh so very unthinkable. That would be incredibly painful.
