In this video I compare the two types of heated apparel for motorcycle riding, wired gear and battery operated gear. I have used wired heated jackets for years and found they work great on the bike, but what do you do when you get off of the bike and its cold. That's where battery operated heated garments like those made by iHood Heated Apparel come in. I was given a heated vest powered by a USB battery bank to try out and see how it works for motorcycle travel and adventures. Take a look at the video for the details related to both wired jackets and battery operated apparel to see which one I recommend.

"Buy two or you won't be the one using it". I laughed out loud. Plus, I would feel like such a cad being warm and telling my spouse, "well, you should have bought your own." Two thumbs up on that tip!

You know Matt this would make a great gift for my wife!! She gets cold when we go to our cabin and she is always bundling up in sweaters and parkas. Thank you my man!!

It's really warm. The high setting is too hot for me.

I'm running hotwired heated liner and gloves and they're awesome.
@advmatt

I really like them when they work but I have gone through several pairs. I wasn't exactly easy on them. I think the connecting wire inside the liner broke.

I have an Amazon heated vest. It’s a little more basic, but it is great. You can also put it at the bottom of your sleeping bag to keep your feet warm.

That's a great idea stuffing it in the sleeping bag.

Very thorough review. I love heated gear, even in shoulder season. It's nice to have a little warmth even if it's not too cold. - Frank

Good video. I have the exact jacket you have and it is definetly a game change. A couple of years ago a buddy and me were on a ride in Northern Arizona. We had to cut the ride short and head home due to the cold. If we had the heated jackets then there would not have been an issue. I think your Hippo Hands would work much better in conjunction with heated grips. Keep the content coming

Heated gear is magical. Yeah, heated grips on the with the Hippo Hands. Should keep me riding all year. Thanks for sharing your experience. Cheers.

As nice as it would be to have heated gear off the bike I think for my application of long rides that wired makes the most since. I'm using a " Warm and safe" jacket with a wireless controller and keis shorty gloves.
@advmatt
@advmatt 8 месяцев назад
Yep, I get that. That's why I am going to use the USB extension cable for all day heat on the bike and switch to the battery off the bike. I am experimenting with this setup. After years of warm riding with wired gear it feels like a bit of a risk to change.

Nice review. I’m in SoCal and just bought my first heated jacket. The Gerbing brand. Battery powered too and it has already come in handy off the bike. Great info. Thanks. 😊

cool. i have a heated vest for skiing, need to dig it out, sure it's similar. Battery operated and all. I'd bet the put the vest on a bench and tested the 'run time' at different settings and used that in their promotional stuff. Which is sort of legit...except in cold weather the battery won't be as efficient... i believe.
@advmatt

Well, the battery is tucked inside the heated part of the vest, so maybe not too cold but certainly not lab conditions. Your heated vest will do the trick riding for sure.

I rode to work the other day and it was 46 degrees. I have a fly racing jacket with my work polo shirt with long underwear underneath and two pairs of gloves on. It wasn't too bad at 75mph on the freeway. It has a removable vest that zips on or off. I need to go to the mountains and then we'll see if that's enough. Hands were a little cold, even with two pairs of gloves on.

You handle much colder temperatures than I can. The heat makes it less if a suffer fest and more enjoyable, for me anyways.

@@advmatt I grew up in Michigan so that may play a part. I live in Vegas but as you know it still gets cold in the desert. I think I was more concerned about the sea of cars all around me at 6am. Maybe my mind was somewhere else. Good video.

I have tried a few battery powered heated gear such as socks, gloves, jacket. I find the warmth they put out to be minimal and almost undetectable (gloves and socks being the worst).
@advmatt
@advmatt 8 месяцев назад
I haven't tried gloves and socks but this vest is hot when not riding. I was surprised how hot it became, but the battery drain was high. I think extra batteries are needed. Thanks for sharing your experience.

What's the brand/model of the over-jacket you are wearing?
@advmatt
@advmatt 7 месяцев назад
It's just a cheap jacket from Costco. I wear a Knox armored shirt with abrasion resistance underneath. That way I can wear any jacket over the top and stay away from the big bulky ADV jackets.
