I can't afford to buy fabric, I use cardboard boxes opened out flat for walkways and between rows. You can staple them down just like anything else. It last all through the season , rain and shine, and weeds don't send roots into it like they do with fabric. I just pull it up, save the staples and throw it in the firepit at the end of the season. I order enough 40 lb bags of dog food from Amazon over the winter to get enough fresh cardboard for the next season. Thanks for the video , Danny, you always go through things step by step and it's all from experience.

Mother nature abhors a void, vacant soil. This year's garden was an experiment. I've decided I will double the size next year and start my roadside stand . My garden was good for weeds except for the last month, when it was overtaken with ground cover type weeds. Thank you for reviewing and introducing Garden Solutions. I will be placing my order soon. My eyes are getting on me fast, so here's my tip: before I use anything in the grass or ground, I paint the item with florescent orange spray paint, good quality paint. Wood, metal, etc - the color contrast pops right out to me and I can find it easily.

I switched to DeWitt this year for my garden. Its half Raised Beds and Half traditional. I put it on after amending soil and it is as you say... a life changer. Very few weeds, and exceptional plant growth. I also use the drip tape watering. I am elderly and what a difference it makes.

I couldn’t get a tiller to my garden due to the pandemic so I smothered out the rows with landscape cloth and a bunch of rocks to weigh it all down and then I cut holes down the center to plant my seedlings. A cold snap that got down to 31F killed nearly my entire row of squash so I immediately sowed seeds in the empty holes. A couple weeks later when they were seedlings, half of them were wilting and my theory was the black landscape cloth around them was absorbing too much heat so I mounded a small amount of dirt around each seedling and some of them rebounded and the ones that died I just resowed and they all did well. I learned a lot from that experience and the result was that my squash production was staggered quite nicely. I may just do it on purpose next year.

I ran into the staple issue myself...bought the 1st box and they're still rust-free, but I assumed (and you know what they say about assume!) the 2nd box I bought would be the same even though they were a diff brand...they were not. As for weeds growing through the GC from the top, I use a push broom about once every 7 - 10 days or so (if needed). It may seem like a lot of work, but it's FAR less than weeding!

I garden on the edge of zone 3 & 4. Gardening is always a challenge with Lake Superior being so close by. This year I had 90 days between the last Spring frost & the 1st Fall frost. This ia my 3rd year using woven plastic. Its fantastic! I tried sweet potatoes slips under plastic, they produced several fist sized potatoes. My garden is 30 X 40 and I pull up the plastic every spring, till the soil and reposition the plastic to rotate my crops. My 1st box of 1,000 stapes were galvanized, so I never had he rust issue. Very informative vid.

We used ground cover for the first time this summer and it was awesome! Saved us a ton of work in weeding and such and locked the moisture in for weeks. Our cover came with some staples (not galvanized) and we bought extra (also not galvanized)....lesson learned as they did corrode and were a bit hard to remove. I agree about the overlap--it pays to go more than an inch so weeds don't creep up between the cracks. Great video. God bless!

Ground cover has been a game changer for me. My son works in landscaping and warned me to keep the dirt off the top of the plastic to prolong it's life. It has saved me so many hours of weeding. I have to say, I'm glad I don't live in the deep south. You all seem to have a lot of bugs and moisture problems. Sandy soil works nice but it is hard to keep watered. My Heavenly Father sure did bless my harvest this year.

We used the growers solution weed fabric this year. It certainly has its pros and cons. I feel the pros outweighed it though for us and we plan to use again next year. It’s amazing how much weeds can find any little nook and cranny to grow through.

All my years of gardening and I have not tried it....but I need too.....i have access to large amounts of leaves and often mulch with them with great success. Because of the drought last summer the only reason we ended up with a decent garden season was because the leaves held the moisture in.....and virtually no weeds. Definitely going to try some ground cover next season.😊

Boy a good lesson. Heads up last year the staples I bought from Amazon said galvanized but rusted like hell, when I went to pull them up they were hard and both tines VERY rusted. I bought the same gauge galvanized staples this year which said made in the USA , same price about, and the difference is the thickness and feel so far. I feel sure the ones I have this year are excelllent.

I use DeWitt for my garden. When I pull the staples I throw them in a bucket filled with white vinegar. After about a week I take them out rinse them in clear water and dry them. No more rust and they are ready for next year. Ants are a problem but I use diatomaceous earth and that seems to help. My garden is only 50×120 ft and I hope to enlarge it next year since it was so much easier to care for it now that I am using weed cloth.

When I lived in Florida I used instant mashed potato flakes to kill off Fire Ants. Just sprinkle when it's not going to rain. Or put some nail holes in the metal lid of a jar (to let the Ants in) put some instant mashed potatoes and lay the little jars on their side, anywhere you need them.

Our main takeaway from using ground cover is don't leave a gap. We did for sunflowers and bush peas and regretted it because of grass and weeds. Also to remove crops you basically have to cut the stalk close to the ground , pull fabric then pull root balls. But the health of our plants and ease of tending made it more than worth it up here in Jones county MS

I’m in southern Georgia & used to work for a company that made ground cover, weed screen, ag curtain, poly feed bags etc. Some folks go to Home Depot or Lowe’s & buy landscape fabrics & end up badly disappointed. Most sold there won’t be good quality products. I wonder if you could set up a low voltage electrolysis to help clean those rusty staples? Might be way easier than knocking the rust off by hand.

If you keep a clean, neat and tidy garden. You will never have that. I am same age as you 2 are. Only difference is I was born with a messed up knee joint and leg. Makes kneeling and bending a chore. Last thing I do is wash off the weed fabric. Doest care what. I too live in the deep South. Louisiana is my home town. I find time to check and tend my garden every other day. Couple questions. #1 How many years do you leave the ground cover before you pull it all up to till again? Or do you till. #2 How would you go about planting seeds that need to be very close together? Like peas, carrots, dill, etc? I think that too many videos and web pages promote this as "weed free" that people get the false idea that it's 100% weed free. No matter what you do, weeds will always find a way to grow, that's why they can't be completely eradicated. But using the woven ground cover will definitely "reduce" the amount of weeds you have to pull out of your garden during a growing period. Makes life a lot easier. It may be worth mentioning that a weed barrier fabric needs to be good quality. Sorry people, but the stuff from the dollar stores isn't going to work at all. It will let weeds thru as much as not having it at all. And it deteriorates quick. The good quality woven ground cover will last for years if you take care of it. Thanks for the video!

how do you treat the fire ants with this type of gardening? do they ever come out from under the fabric and attack just from walking over them or do they keep to themselves until you lift up the fabric? I really want to start gardening with this method, but it's worrisome to think about fire any tunnels being right under foot everywhere I go. Little Rock, AR.

I put down an insect granule that kills ants, grubs, etc. It is also safe for fruit and veg plants. I raked it through the dirt then put the woven weave fabric over it. I also put some of those outdoors ant traps at the corners of the garden.

Do you leave the fabric down or do you take it up every season...

It depends some times I leave it and use the broad fork to loosen the soil between row cover's.

Did your garden soil get really hard from having that ground cover on it? I saw on another RU-vid channel where they have clay type soil and they could hardly dig up their sweet potatoes.

Greetings in Jesus name our Lord and saviour, are you interested in hearing about the Gospel of Jesus Christ who is our lord and savior? Originally man lived in pure happiness with God in Paradise but we sinned by disobeying God by eating fruit from the forbidden tree, because of this we were thrown out of Paradise and onto this earth, as we stubbornly found pleasure in eating from the forbidden tree although there were better trees to eat from in the Garden of Eden. God loves us so much that he made a way for us to enter back into paradise by sending his only son Jesus to die for our sins so that he can give us eternal life and save us from death and eternal punishment in Hell. Here is a pray that you and others can say to receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and saviour. Father in Heaven I receive your son Jesus as my Lord and saviour, I confess my sins and I ask you to forgive me for all my sins, wash and cleanse me and everything pertaining to me with the blood of your son Jesus and wash away all my spots, blemishes and wrinkles with the blood of your son Jesus. Father God in Heaven fill me with your Holy spirit every moment of my life and give me infinite oil for my spiritual lamps. I forgive and release all those who have done me wrong and I ask you to bless them and write my name permanently in the lambs book of life in Heaven in Jesus name I pray amen. Here is another pray to break curses and bind demons in our lives. Father God in Heaven I break and loose myself and my family from all curses going all the way back to Adam and Eve and I bind every demon and demonic influence in my life and in my family life permanently in Jesus name. I command all demons in my life and in my family life and those around me to leave and never return in Jesus name. Father God send your legions of Angels to fight for me until the end and send your ministering angels to keep ministering to me and always guide and protect me from all evil, I command Satan to get thee behind me and all of Gods creatures in Jesus name I pray amen. Pray always and study the KJV Bible to know more about Jesus and God's plan for our lives. Jesus bless you. Please pass on this message.
