I know someone who spent about $1000 on a basic, "starter kit" of solar. 3 panels (not quite 1000watts), a battery, power inverter. This person did all the wiring/installation themselves (it took several hours!) $5,000 would BARELY get you a few panels and a couple batteries. Not to mention if you had to hire someone to do the installation. IF you knew how to install $5000 worth of panels (plus a good battery bank + inverter), you could probably run about half your house on solar. Not everyone knows how to plug their washing machine/TV/fridge/air conditioner etc into a solar set up. Not to mention, plugging your solar into your fuse/breaker box to run your lights etc. That would require an electrician (or someone who knows basic electrical). There's also a fair bit of education on setting up the solar controller, + battery maintenance (knowing the difference between a GEL/FLOODED etc battery) You think all that can be done with $5000? If you are a talented contractor, you could stretch that $5000. Most people are not.
What a joke this government is. Try waiting until we recover. I'm a window and door contractor and I can't get any products for at least 4 months or so and prices are sky rocketing
Forget about this program everyone! It’s a friggin joke and waste of time. Not even worth one’s effort or time. You gain nothing with this, but incur more debt!
This grant is a great opportunity! Even if you're not eligible for the full $5,000.00, the initiative is still so helpful for a lot of people. The other cool thing is as part of this program they're offering free training in green home assessment for people who want to work with the program, which is just a useful skill to pick up for free!
svenkat2006 exactly! They are also underpaying the EMPLOYEES THAT ANSWER THE PHONES & OVER WORKING THEM. THEY REFUSE TO EMPLOY AN IT DEPARTMENT TO RESOLVE ON GOING TECH ISSUES WITH THEIR STUPID, FLAWED SOFTWARE! SO THESE HIGHLY STRESSED INDIVIDUALS HAVE TO BE, KNOW & DO EVERYTHING FOR THESE RUDE, DESPICABLE CALLERS! TRUDEAU IS JUST PURE EVIL!
Yes this smells like a scam If you are barley paying your mortgage and food and energy costs , another loan or waiting for reimbursement will cause more financial problems not help
