Julian J yeah I understand they are trying to be more Audi like with a corporate design look but it comes off kinda cheap in the outside I guess they spent their money on the inside of the cars ? Unlike Audi, they seems to evenly grace their cars ( $ $ ) with a more distinctive look outside and inside.
Except the price difference between them isn't 10 or 50 cents more for twice as much drink. It's like 50% more for the E, and 250% more (the S) for just a few extra inches.
kdog18ful but in my eyes, audis at least have more apparent detail to tell each model apart, new Mercedes just looked exactly the same seen with naked eye
My word you people here are like babies. Look back to their past in the early 90s and back and you'll see their cars looked the same then as well. It is called brand identity. They are going back to what they used to do and it is working because their sales show no sign of slowing down. It's what made them great then and the same apllies now because there is no denying that their cars are beautiful. If you are just buying a car to show off what badge you got (E, C or S) you are buying it for the wrong reasons. Each model line still has its distinct driving identity and purpose so stop saying oh those who bought an S coupe will be mad. No they won't because that car has its own qualities. Stop acting like damn children gosh.
I think the next CLS will be. Currently C and E look like a S Coupe which is awesome. But I think all of the screens need a thinner frame, they all look like a expensive TomTom
***** I already have the W222 S-Class as sedan. And yeah, I don't have money to buy the coupe. But in my opinion the E-Coupe is more beautiful. More expensive cars aren't always more beautiful.
Completely agree. Over the past few years, it seems as if Mercedes has been hesitant to make riskier and unique design choices for the different models in their catalogue.
NateJombs I completely agree. The rear of this looks near identical to the C class and the S class. The front is pretty much the same as the saloon E-Class.
Cthelab 04 I think its funny how Matt (carwow) mentioned some of the similarities to Audi towards the end. I remember when I used to criticise Audi because the A4, A5, and A6 looked so similar. Looks like Mercedes is heading in this direction. Whether it's for better or worse, I'm not too sure yet!
Mercedes Ruined their cars. they dont look bad but fuck, the s class looks like the C class and theey look like the E class. its not distinct enough and it looks like the designers just got lazy. and no its not "design" language its laziness. i prefer the old shapes. :(
UgenixK It's not laziness it's brand identity. Look at their models from the early 90s and back. They all basically looked identical. They are doing what they used to do and so far it has been working for them.
100 percent agree... I've mistaken S550's for C classes quite often and I'd consider myself a "car guy." I'm all for traces of the DNA throughout models, but these are like photo copies w/ a minor tweak.
Magic Vision Control isn't new. It's been on the SL for a few years. Also means expensive replacement wiper blades as you can only get them from Mercedes!
GodricThe Irrespective of that, people who have £40K to drop on a car are usually shrewd. I would begrudge paying through the nose for a main dealer to replace special wiper blades.
it's true, but buying 40k mercedes has some downsides and some upsides. everything is expensive, even in old models ie how much oil goes in it, tires etc thing is, almost anybody can buy few years old merc or any premium brand for price of new golf or passat, but there is a reason why not and most important one is maintenance. thing is, most buyers, unless they got rich fast or have old money. are 40+ yo . at that point in life is more like skrew i was reasonable my whole life, i can afford it and i'm going to buy it
Peugeot 405 facelift circa 1992 had windscreen wipers with the washer fluid coming out of a tube that was clipped along the wipers. I always thought it was a really effective way of cleaning the screen, I bet other manufacturers see merc doing this now as mentioned in the video, copy it and give merc all the credit.
I like the lack of B pillar on this one and the previous E Class coupe (along with the S Class coupe). Wish they would have done that with the C Class coupe.
Definitely prefer the exterior of the current E Class Coupe and love how it's still easy to distinguish. This, however, just makes their Coupe line up somewhat boring as they're all very very similar, almost uniform. Having said that, the new C Class Coupe is my favourite on the road at the moment.
An AMG E63 version has potential to be the biggest MB hit of all time, at the expense of the S63 Coupe - hopefully AMG will figure out a less awkward rear window / orphan roof-panel application.
I hate that they are making the S Class Coupe, C Class Coupe and E Class Coupe look the same. I used to like that the E Class and C Class looked noticeably different.
Mercedes cars are becoming as AUDI all the same! GLE coupè and GLC coupè the same bus enlarged same thing for C E S class in all trims (coupè saloon and sw)
I thought the thumbnail said E class Coupe? Why am I seeing S class Coupe?? Wait that's C? No S? WHAT?! Yeah new mercs are all the same. Should have called this S Class Medium Size
The best? No way. Maybe for an old dude, a business driver or whatever, but not for a 20'er of 30'er. Nothing beats the A180 (in my opinion). Best looking Mercedes car of the past years.
The huge problem with Mercedes is the repair costs, you will be paying £4,000+ to fix any minor component because every component is proprietary to Mercedes unlike most commercial cars. It's okay if you have a new car every three years, but I recommend staying away from second hand Mercedes!
Luis Mendez There are a few reasons. First, the US gallon is larger than the Imperial gallon. For instance, 30 MPG US is 36 MPG in the UK. Second, the EU testing process is very optimistic. They give an Urban, mixed and extra-urban figure. Although people will quote the extra urban or mixed figure, most will be lucky to get the urban figure. The main reason really though is that the US doesn't usually get the diesel engines, which sell the best in Europe and can offer very impressive figures - over 50 MPG is achievable with a diesel this kind of car, but they aren't very fast (well, the V6 diesels aren't too slow). Most gasoline/petrol cars will be similar between the UK and US if you adjust for the gallon. I average 37 UK MPG in my 1.8 TSI Seat Leon hatchback - I bet you would get similar in a us spec 1.8 TSI Golf.
To me these new Mercedes c-class and e-class coupe now look more like the Audi A5 shape wise and curves. Not that's a bad things because I preferred the a5 but next car might just have to be a Merc :P
I was originally a huge Cadillac fan. Now, the only thing I like about Cadillac is the cheaper price tags. However, they're cheaper for a reason. They suck.
They fucked up the exterior. I'm talking about the rear end and everything behind the front doors when looked at from profile. They should have made the rear side windows slightly shorter and throw that small pillar away, and used the same lights in the rear that they use on the saloon.
Pretty sure. I've never heard anyone say that air suspension is on par with the regular suspension in terms of reliability. I had to replace the front strut on my 2004 this year. I've read numerous accounts with the issue of air suspension on the Mercedes. From the suspension failing at 80k or people like yourself, which lasts a bit longer. I don't know if it's an issue of quality control, driving conditions, the elements, or a combination of them all.
Where is the VIDEO-REVIEW Carwow? Dont drop the standards by commercial pictures/videos with voice-over.. I'm close to go back to the Carbuyer channel...
Nice report. Although the E class looks pretty good, how about the appalling Merc reliability and the even more appalling customer service rating. You can book a table, but heaven forbid you get good service on your warranty claims...
timothyzc Clearly you don't know what you're talking about. The C-Class Sedan starts at $34,475. The E-Class starts at roughly $50-53k. i don't know about you, but mathematically speaking, i don't know if 50k is less than 34k.. smh.
